Army Dreamers...

Bryan Burnett | 17:37 UK time, Saturday, 27 June 2009

veterans1.jpgToday was Armed Forces day which was a chance for people around the country to show their support for the men and women who make up the armed forces. I was asked to be the MC in the entertainment tent at Glasgow's event which was hosted by the Lord Provost and attended by the Scottish Secretary and many other dignitaries. However, the real VIPs were the hundreds of veterans who attended the event and gave us the chance to show our gratitude for the sacrifices they made in conflicts over the years. I was particularly pleased to meet the women of the Auxillary Territorial Service (ATS) which was the women's service in the British Army during the Second World War. It was great to sit and chat and hear about the experiences of these amazing women and what they did in the war. Susan Sinclair (that's her in the picture below) told me about her War which involved spending five weeks on a boat sailing to Egypt where she was stationed at El Alamein, working in a PoW camp. I really did consider it an honour to get to hear their stories. veterans2.jpgÌý
