  • Comment number 2.

    Tuesday:

Has to be Buddha of Suburbia by David Bowie, but the best song from the series was his original version of Strangers When We Meet.

The from MASH - Manic Street Preachers version.

Not strictly on theme but CSI - The Who, Who Are You.

    Wed:

Adam and The Ants - Kings of The Wild Frontier
Peter Gabriel - Biko or No Self Control
Glad All OVer - Dave Clark Five

    Thursday:

Del Amitri - When I Want You
Fleetwood Mac - I Don't Want To Know
Nanci Griffith - I Don't Want To To Talk About Love
Elton John - I Want Love (one of his best songs, not a huge fan but this is a fantastic song)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody, and if you get the chance......enjoy the Boss at Glastonbury.

    For Tuesday...

Mari Wilson .. singing 'Cry Me A River' from the 90's John Hannah forensic series..McCallum spine tingling!!

'The World Is What You Make It' - Paul Brady

From the sitcom 'Faith in the Future' starring the utterly gorgeous Lynda Bellingham.

Ah'm aw excited noo! Must go an' calm doon............

  • Comment number 5.

#3 Frank - brilliant track! My favourite Sparks song. Sorry to jump in but a good bit of trivia is that the Drummer (Keith Forsey) wrote Don't You Forget About Me - and played on all the Boney M stuff including the strangely excellent Nighflight To Venus!

The Boss on Radio 6 at the moment, very good he is too!

  • Comment number 6.

    # 1 is for Monday by the way.

Not a good choon to drum along to....

    DC

  • Comment number 7.

    Phew!!
When I opened the Blog I thought we were in for another Human League night.

  • Comment number 8.

#5 Norrie i didn't know that....well here's a bit trivia for you....the guy who owned that music store went on to have a no 1 with 'Knockin on Heavens Door' (it was a charity single for the Dunblane kids)

  • Comment number 9.

  • Comment number 10.

Neil Young's Day In The Life and CSN's Ruby Tuesday made it a good year for cover bands.

    Monday

Take Me With You (When You Go) - The Jayhawks - From the Def American compilation Til Def Do Us Part II

    Tuesday

The Castle - Love - From The Holiday Programme

    Wednesday

Wipe Out - The Surfaris - We've all tapped table tops to this one

    Thursday

I Want a Girl (Just Like The Girl That Married Dear Old Dad) - Al Jolson - It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye

  • Comment number 11.

I might be stating the obvious about Wednesday (and it pains me to post about a theme so far away...) but Status Quo could fill the entire evening here.

"What you're proposin" is perhaps the best of the drummin bunch

However, I have a tendency to play air drums to "Come on Eileen" when dragged onto the dance floor....

Status Quo seems better in the circumstances perhaps

    :-)

    DC in Cellardyke

  • Comment number 12.

    Monday:

The Hawaiian Wedding Song - Elis Presley (a sweet wee song with vows in the lyrics)

  • Comment number 13.

    Tuesday Themes:

Excellent - another excuse to get the wonderful Kate Rusby on (and her version of Village Green Preservation Society which was the theme to a sit-com about the WI)

    #2
Could go for Baba O'Riley too, as they semi-use it as a theme on House.
Manics' version of MASH is great

More inspiration to follow, with luck

  • Comment number 14.

    #13 Jam and Jerusalem

  • Comment number 15.

#4 Tht's a good one SG...and not an obvious choice...glad the advancing years haven't dimmed your memory ;0)

    Julie,

I hear that Lynda is a regular on a lunchtime TV magazine thingy.

Not that I would ever be caught watching daytime TV...............

P.S. My favourite is the Swedish chef.

  • Comment number 17.

    MONDAY

A shoo-in for this theme. Bryan would be bitterly disappointed had no-one requested

'The Ceremony' - George Jones and Tammy Wynette

    Keep it Country!

  • Comment number 18.

And why not The Wedding by Julie Rogers?

And why did Bruce repeatedly try to make his escape into the crowd? Is he performing under duress? Was he trying to give Silvio the slip?

  • Comment number 19.

    #16

The theme from 'Scrubs', "Superman" by Lazlo Bane is a must!

    Monday
Capt R - How many times have we had TV as a theme then?

Still, it gives me one more try at getting the theme from

    The Persuaders

    played.

  • Comment number 28.

    Sorry, meant Tuesday, obviously.

  • Comment number 29.

AFR no doubt the theme will change to any song that happened to get played on the telly - so pretty much anything will have a chance of getting played hence squeezing out your theme from the Persuaders.

It should be tv themes or songs specifically written for TV shows, but it wont be.

  • Comment number 30.

  • Comment number 36.

    TUESDAY:

Not the most amusing but a fair feat nevertheless:

  • Comment number 37.

    MONDAY VOWS

Are You Sure - The Allisons

It's a bit before my time but I first heard it on a 50s/60s compilation during a fit of nostalgia in my teens. It's got some good harmonies and a nice melody.

I Broke That Promise - Mink De Ville

I always liked this track from their Return to Magenta album. Tried to find the lyrics on google but to no avail, what the heck I'm pretty sure it's about wedding vows.

  • Comment number 38.

#29. Will Monday's show only feature songs that relate to wedding vows or will it expand into another general wedding theme?

  • Comment number 39.

Monday has to be the Proclaimers - Let's get married or Life with you.
    Julie Rodgers - The Wedding
Tuesday - the Hair bear bunch! but not the Friends theme as have to hear it every night! Life on Mars - Bowie. The theme from Little House on the Prairie or The Waltons
Wednesday - I am the Beat by the Look, My Sharona - the Knack. Ultravox - All stood still
Thursday - If she knew what she wanted - Bangles
    - Say what you want - Texas

  • Comment number 40.

    #38
I'm sure we had a general wedding theme recently so hope this ones kept to the vows (or broken vows a la Josh groban). Enjoyed that clip #36 Julie. The guy's got other talents other than a good voice obviously. His is the only version of You Raise Me Up that I can listen to.

  • Comment number 41.

    #30 Paolo

    Here's a couple of inks

  • Comment number 42.

    #39

Would you not prefer Cerys Matthews to Julie Rogers?

    Tuesday

Dragnet - Ray Anthony - We just want the facts ma'am.

Staccato's Theme - Elmer Bernstein - John Cassavetes still personifies cool for me.

  • Comment number 44.

    #18

Many moons ago, while the 'Troubles' were still raging in the six counties, a very posh, very English lady phoned the lunchtime request show on Classic FM.
She asked that her request be dedicated to "the people of Northern Ireland, in the hope that they move towards peace and reconciliation."

    Her request? Ave Maria.

In my mind's eye I could see Republicans rolling on the floor, heehawing and giggling, whilst Orangemen hurled radios from windows, often without first opening said windows.

    Sciolism at its best.

  • Comment number 45.

At the risk of opening the lists debate again, reading some of the posts above is like looking at the radio times. Surely anybody can make a list of programmes? It's not that difficult,is it?

Selecting your FAVOURITE theme tune is much more difficult and obviously requires a bit of thought..

Little imagination being shown by some

    DC

    PS :-)

  • Comment number 46.

#45. Well, if you insist DC...My real favourites are probably:
The theme tune to 'The High Life' by Alan Cumming and Forbes Masson again...followed by Billy Connolly's 'Supergran' and Denis Waterman's 'I could Be So Good For You', the theme to 'The Water Margin; then the theme from 'Top Of The Form' ('Marching Strings' by Ray Martin and his Concert Orchestra)...but...the first 3 have been played before and I just fancied asking for the ones I requested at post #35 because they're mainly a bit different from my usual requests and I like the songs...The Daughter in particular loves the Gavin DeGraw one.

  • Comment number 47.

Can you get have the same song for both monday and tuesday?

In sickness and in health, was the theme tune for the follow up series to til death us do part. It fits both nights. trouble is it's by Chas and Dave, so not much chance of getting played then.

  • Comment number 48.

    #45

That's what I did - and do; I list tunes from the thousands that I have (and remember) and put them up as the stuff that I would like to hear. I have done massive lists in the past because it is fun - but that's fine as well! It's another way to enjoy participating in the show.

  • Comment number 49.

    WEDNESDAY:

    'Propane Nightmares' - Pendulum
'Sing Sing Sing' - Benny Goodman

  • Comment number 50.

    For tonight:

Can't Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley

and in the spirit of the occasion..
Would I Lie To You - Eurythmics

  • Comment number 51.

    For better or worse
    Better / Tom Baxter
Your own worst enemy / Bruce Springsteen

    For Richer or Poorer
Rags to Riches / Tony Bennett

    In Sickness or in Health
The Sickbed of Cuchulainn / Pogues
Lust for life / Iggy Pop

    Till Death Us Do Part
    She's Gone /Black Sabbath
Knockin on Heaven's Door / Randy Crawford

Can I conclude that your favourite Muppet is Miss Piggy?

    I salute your confusability!

  • Comment number 53.

Looking forward to hearing these, especially Tuesday's suggestions.

Monday : Has to be "Let's Get Married" by The Proclaimers, or "White Wedding" by Billy Idol. Both of those turned up on our discussions before our wedding last year :-) or how about "I would do anything for love (but I won't do that)" by Meatloaf, which almost sounds like a wedding vow, with a prenuptial attached.

Tuesday : Does "Thundercats" count? ;-) Got a great middle-eight that one. Or "Crockett's Theme" from "Miami Vice". But I'd most love Eels - "That's Not Really Funny" which was used as the theme to Monkey Dust on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three - and I tap along to that one.

Wednesday : "Young Folks" by Peter Bjorn and John, "Jenny was a friend of mine" by The Killers, "All or Nothing" by White Buffalo (but I'll bet you haven't got that ;-) ) or "Idiotheque" by Radiohead.

Thursday : "I want it all" - Queen, "I don't want to go on with you like that" - Elton John, "I want you back" - Jackson 5, "Don't you want me" - Human League

  • Comment number 54.

    MONDAY: Marriage Vows

Roxy Music 'All I Want Is You' an often overlooked Roxy single.
    Roxy Music 'Flesh + Blood'

Please please please no Bryan Ferry 'Let's Stick Together',does the world really need to hear that again?

    J.O'B.

  • Comment number 55.

RJ - did you see that wee compilation CD in the paper yesterday? Were you involved in putting that together? It was actually quite a good selection I thought.

  • Comment number 56.

#55 Yes Norrie I helped choose some of the tracks. There where 17 in total put forward and it was supposed to be the 12" version of Angel Eyes but the used the 7". Others put forward where Ladytron, Beauty Queen, Just Like You, All I Want Is You, Take A Chance With Me.

    J.O'B.

  • Comment number 57.

Well.............. whats` it gonna be guys? Yes or no..............sugar & spice OR vim and vitriol?? could go either way if u ask me. could be a truly touchy theme tonight. Be prepared for the GIO wedding invites AND the divorce citations!.. Good luck........u might just need it.

A few fitting choons for thenights theme.

AD/DC - Highway to Hell. (controversial I`m sure. Nonetheless, I`m sure a few listeners of either gender will empathise!)AND it a blisteringly good choon

Al Green - Lets stay together.

Style Council -You`re the best thing that ever happened.

Danny Wilson - Rubys` Golden Wedding

    Kaiser Chiefs -Time honoured tradition.

Weller -Headstart for Happiness. (Acoustic version from the Days of Speed live album... its just the jinkies!)

I shall now retire to the garden, long island iced tea in hand, to await the sonic maelstrom that WILL be tonights` show

  • Comment number 64.

Trying to keep roughly on theme, and I am sorry it's Sprongsteen yet again from me (have tried hard to cut down), but he does have songs which do keep with what the theme is supposed to be:

    Before The Vows:

Walk Like A Man - Springsteen describes the morning of his wedding and the akwardness of him with his father, his childhood memories of the church where he was about to be married in.

"And alone at the alter I stand
And as I watch my bride coming down the aisle I pray
For the strength to walk like a man"

    An alternative vow:

    If I Should Fall Behind

"We swore we'd travel darlin' side by side
We'd help each other stay in stride"

    it all goes wrong

    Brilliant disguise

"Now you play the loving woman, I'll play the faithful man
But just don't look too close, into the palm of my hand
We stood at the alter, the gypsy swore our future was right
But come the wee wee hours, Well maybe baby the gypsy lied
So when you look at me' you better look hard and look twice
Is that me baby, or just a brilliant disguise"

    and Stolen car

"Once again we stood on the wedding steps at Victory Hall
And walked arm in arm through the chapel door
I can remember how good I felt inside
When the preacher said "Son you may kiss the bride" "

    # 73, at the risk of incurring the wrath of Julie 'n' Babs..... no it's no.

Since we've heard David Cassidy on a number of occasions over recent months, can we now hear some proper music like Gilmour / Floyd / Bragg / Tull on the show?

When I was a teenager the lassies were all in love with David Cassidy or Donny Osmond. Being in love with both of them was not, it seemed, an option. David or Donny, Donny or David.

Lassies are weird. (Present company excepted, of course).

'I Think I Love You' is, IMHO, one of the best singles ever.

  • Comment number 88.

    TV thems shas me strugglign and i know that thsi will be a show that I will listen to and go 'of course, so obvious', but struggling, so;

Woke Up This Morning - Alabama 3 (from the amazing and wonderful Sopranos)
Miami Vice - Jan Hammer (get those jacket sleeves rolled, shades on and imagine that piece of junk you're driving is a Ferrari Testarossa)
Suicide is Painless - from MASH, can't remember who sang it

  • Comment number 89.

Hmm, apart from the terrible typing in my last post I have also noticed / remembered something. Again I may be wrong, but I recall the series 'Gangsters' in the 70's, set in Birmingham, which was totally different from anything else on TV. I think the theme was sung by Chris Farlowe, though originally it was an instrumental - don't know who by though (this is a crap posting). I might go and google the show and find out more.

  • Comment number 90.

morning bloggers.....think the wedding vows theme proved a tough challenge...hoping that there will be some great suggestions tonight. I'm wondering if I can get away with an Osmonds track...they had a TV show, and of course Shang a Lang! And Scotch....I always like to buck the trend and can confirm this "lassie" loved David Cassidy and Donny Osmond in equal amounts. A little bit of good with a little bit naughty!

    Miss Babs x

  • Comment number 91.

Morning Babs, I must admit David Cassidy did have a couple of good songs, though I wouldn't have dared say so at the time!

BTW I can't think of any good TV themes that haven't already been claimed, could be a last minute one.....

  • Comment number 92.

#90 MissBabs, what was the theme to 'The Patridge Family'?

#89 Hoppo I salute you! I am quite a big Farlowe fan, and this is a track I have never heard. It is actually by Dave Greenslade who did the music for the series, a single was released with Farlowe on vocals. They later (or amybe at the same time) played in bands called Greenslade and the wonderful Colloseum (which Greenslade had going in the late 60's so this was a Colloseum 2 I suppose, interestingly the title of their first album was For Those About To Die We Salute You which AC/DC of course changed one word for one of their albums). I think they tour now and then but have not seen anything for a long time. Last time I saw Farlowe he looked in dodgy health, sounded amazing and was supporting Van Morrison.

So the producers are looking for a track by Dave Greenslade, I could have said that in one sentence!

    Tuesday:

Got to be 'The Boy with the Arab Strap': Belle and Sebastian... infact you could say two for the price of one.

TBWTAS was the theme for the TV series 'Teachers' and of course Bella and Sebastian (from which the band took their name) will take a certain generation of listeners back to school Summer holiday morning TV and the black and white, French (dubbed into English) adventures of one boy and his dog in the snowy Alps... or is that just me?

    DC,

STEP 1:- Introduce Mrs. C. to Signora Pablo.

STEP 2:- During the subsequent conversation, subtly insinuate the concept of 'Retail Therapy'.

STEP 3:- Point the ladies in the direction of Buchanan Galleries. (Other 'Retail Therapy' outlets are available).

    STEP 4:- Go skeich.

    TV themes :

Oh, it has to be ... The Avengers !
and the last theme they used for the Two Ronnies - that bell in there is just the icing on the cake for a showbiz tune.

    WEDNESDAY

    'Curtains' - Elton John

Taken from 'Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy'

The genius percussionist Ray Cooper made a massive contribution to the success of this album. On this track Ray plays tambourine, bells and conga drum. Nigel Olsson swings the sticks with aplomb.

    Hi All
Too many comments to go through. But will pick out some personal faves and seldom heard things. All dedicated to my wife Jill who's poorly today

    Tuesday

Bob James - Angela (from Taxi)

Though the theme to White Horses would take me back to somewhere special in a childhood in Aberdeenshire...
