Next week's themes...

Bryan Burnett | 19:17 UK time, Friday, 5 February 2010

chess.jpgLast week all the themes were chosen by our beloved bloggers and thanks again for a good response - particularly the Thursday theme of 'songs you rediscovered on Get It On'.
This week it's the turn of our Facebook friends to pick the themes for the week and I know I can rely on our regular blog readers to politely and enthusiastically post their submissions. Can't I????
Feel free to mail me theme ideas any time you like. They are all considered for the show and are much appreciated by the production team.

Monday
Julie Edwards has suggested we pick songs about our hobbies. Yoga fans might plump for the lotus eaters, you might pick something from Chess and if archery's your thing then there's always ABC's Poison Arrow. Whatever your interest or hobby there's a song for you.

Tuesday
Er - Close To You is one song we wont be playing on Tuesday night as Nick Ray suggests 'long distance' for our theme. From 500 Miles to Far Far Away there should be plenty to choose from. Long distance love has been tackled by many songwriters over the years so there should be some interesting suggestions from the blog I hope.

Wednesday
Jacqueline Ferguson has come up with 'full names in the song title' as a theme. We have done names before but never full names. I'm thinking things like Jennifer Eccles and Eleanor Rigby but we'll also welcome things like Mr Jones.

Thursday
Muir Smith gets the final theme of the week and it's 'sweet'. Absolutely Sweet Marie and Sweet Dreams both fit but what about things like A Taste of Honey or Sugar Sugar? Let's hope we don't get any dentist's listening!

Thanks to the Facebookers for the themes and if you are on Facebook I'd love you to join our page. Just search for 'Get It On with Bryan Burnett'.

    MONDAY
my Perfect Day - Lou Reed
would include a canter on a good horse -
Ride Like the Wind - Christopher Cross
or I might go for a walk in (that's in not up)the hills, probably,
    Walking by Myself- Gary Moore
which is not as sad as it might sound since I like to take photos
(Local Boy in the Photograph - Stereophonics)
    and do some bird-spotting
    I like Birds - Eels
which means stopping every so often and is very annoying for anyone walking with me. I don't listen to
    Music - James Taylor
    when I'm in
The Great Wide Open - Tom Petty (which is where I love to be) I prefer the
Sound of Silence- Simon and Garfunkel
but I do listen to a lot of
Rock and Roll Music - Manic Street Preachers (cheers, Norrie)
    when I'm
Driving in my Car - Madness.
    I love films so
Saturday Night at The Movies - The Drifters
would be a grand way to finish off my day.
Other things I love are tennis, though I'm so hopeless at it I've given it up, but I still love to watch it
    Anyone for Tennis - Cream
    and reading -
Wrapped Up in Books, Belle and Sebastian
And given the amount of time spent listening to a certain radio programme and blogging I'd definitely add
    Get It On - T-Rex
    to my list of hobbies.

    MONDAY:
You'd think my hobby was moving shoes, bags and jumpers from the living room to The Daughter's bedroom but, when not fighting a losing battle against the footwear invasion, I try to do the following:

This year I'm having more success trying to get fit:
'THE SWIMMING SONG' by either LOUDEN WAINWRIGHT III or KATE AND ANNA MCGARRIGLE or 'DON'T STOP MOVIN' by S CLUB 7.

    Following Hibernian is a large part of my life...there's a certain trophy that's eluded the club for way too long...either;
'MAYBE THIS TIME' by LIZA MINELLI or 'MISSION IMPOSSIBLE' - LIMP BIZKIT.

Now that The Daughter is a bit older, when I'm not moving her belongings around the house, I do enjoy 'GOING OUT TONIGHT - Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Used to do a lot of drawing, painting, t-shirt design and the like but that kind of lapsed for a few years. Trying to get back into it but lack of practice means the results are in 'THE LUCK OF THE DRAW' - Bonnie Raitt.

Wednesday is just a few days short of the 47th anniversary of one of our most famous poet's death (some claim suicide, or so I have been telt by wikipedia........)

Sylvia Plath - Ryan Adams is a possible for tonight.

Now the truth is that I chose Sylvia's mother from my iChoons and discovered this song. No idea where it came from other than I must have downloaded it legally whilst composing one of my world renowned pieces of poetry.

    Excellent research,Wee Heavy.

I suppose, being the thirties, a quarter rug was all that could be afforded with only the Vanderbilts' getting the full rug.

Even so, you'd think they'd have made more of an effort to integrate it.

    Senga,

Not sure if that's a compliment, but thank you. I think...

I like these themes, even if they are repeats. I do feel that including titles on Wednesday is unnecessary. Lots of good songs fit this theme.

    MONDAY

    'Jackie's Train' - Mary Gauthier

    TUESDAY

'Boulder to Birmingham' - Emmylou Harris

I usually try to avoid obvious suggestions, but this one is too good not to request.

    WEDNESDAY

    'Sam Hall' - Johnny Cash

    'Sam Stone' - John Prine

None of my requests were played last week, despite my being credited with Monday's theme. Play both of these and we'll be even. >8-D

    THURSDAY

    'Sugar Mama' - Bonnie Raitt

    'Sugar Cane' - Mary Gauthier

Henri, unfortunatly pre 40s rugs were nailed in place and could be disloged by the slightest breeze, hence the expression "keep your hair on,call a joiner".

Good themes I agree and I've put in a wee bit mair effort this week

    MONDAY;
I love my Garden and I've been on holiday this week but havnae been able to get out in it, so -
    Wilderness - Joy Division
Flowers in the Window - Travis (that was my first thought but "Why Does it Always Rain on Me" would be more appropriate)

I've always been keen on art, I know we had that as a theme last week but I'd like to resubmit a song I really think deserves a play
Lazy Line Painter Jane - Belle & Sebastian

And for reading I'll second "Wrapped Up In Books" by them as suggested by the cats owner, along with
Turn the Page - The Streets
