EEEEEasy does it...

Bryan Burnett | 18:13 UK time, Monday, 12 July 2010

e.JPG

How do you fancy a night of egos, everlasting love or Elvis covers? Those were just three of the options you presented me with for our E theme. I also liked eerie songs, Cindy's suggestion of exotic tracks and the 'artists fae Edinburgh' theme. Ìý

We do think long and hard about the themes in a normal week so it's been a bit odd to try and choose one in the last five minutes of the show. I just hope we get it right tonight. It's been hard trying to decide which one to go for, but in the end we thought that 'good enough to eat' suggested by Patrick McCafferty and our own Jim from Erskine was a cracker.

The theme could include those songs and artists that have you licking your lips such as Bread, Sugar Sugar and Meatloaf. You decide what's on the menu by getting in touch during tonight's show.

We gotta hear this again. Mental and unforgettable.

    I salute its unforgettability!

Really chuffed to hear Billy Joel tonight. Thank you!

The only Paulo Nutini song I like more than makes up for the rest that I don't like. He's no' bad. Candy is lovely.
From the sublime to the ridiculous (but just too catchy to dismiss!):
UB40 Food For Thought Always liked this.
Las Ketchup ´¡²õ±ð°ù±ðÂáé (The Ketchup Song - just good fun!)

and then to the very tenuous
Richard Harris MacArthur Park Cakes, rain and stuff
Duran Duran Hungry Like The Wolf Does what it says
Bauhaus Bela Lugosi's Dead from the film The Hunger

    there's always
Deep Blue Something Breakfast At Tiffany's

Really hope if none of them make the grade, you'll allow liquids, too. Some folk on very strict diets (for whatever reason) stick to them. In which case, this one is too good to miss:

    Hazel O'Connor Will You

I really don't like Jambalaya, so won't mention it. Oops.

I saw Norrie's comment, it was utterly innocuous.

It's a mystery what is going on in these moderators minds.Maybe they are a bit like The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland - a one year stint, so that just when they are getting the hang of it, it's time to stop.

I didn't see Scotch's comment. Presumably, it was indescribably filthy.

It's a blog jim but not as we know it......
    New threads everyday?

An amazing thing happened to me on the cote d'azur last week.
I thought I was being ultra sensible in locking my credit card in a hotel safe in Nice before visiting Monte Carlo for the day, only to find on arrival that Stevie Wonder was playing the casino that night and there were a small handful of tickets going. I was kicking myself cos the loose change wasn't gonna cover it...so what did I do as a last resort. I put 20 euros on zero and guess what. It came up 17. What was the chances of that?

Even worse I found out I'd gone to Nice a week early and left just as the week long jazz festival rolled into town with Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Al Jarreau, Herbie Hancock and a host of other legends this ignoramus hasn't discovered yet. Oh and the house band each day were Earth Wind and Fire.

Even Worser We went to Juan Les Pins. Aye that Juan Les Pins! The one where a carefully designed topless swimsuit gives you an even suntan on your backs and on your legs. Unfortunately Imelda had the wrong swimsuit with her and I had that damn Sarstedt song in ma heid for the next 5 days.

Anyway, off to collect my winnings for Brazil winning the world cup. I take it they did win didn't they?

  • Comment number 45.

Well I did suggest Earth Wind and Fire for today's theme.....

anyway, glad you had such a cracking holiday ;0)

Senga, my roses are fine now. The deer have fled and instead I have a plague of wasps. They creep in the roof tiles and fall down into the kitchen through the spotlight when you switch it on. Fear not though, the exterminator man is coming tonight.

Who's next to take on the house on the corner?

  • Comment number 46.

Sounds like a great trip Paolo.

You have missed quite a lot of fun especially as everyone is enjoing the Alphabet of themes so much - even Glen is entering into the spirit of it all!

Check with Adam - he was checking the results and keeping us all up to date. Seemed to suddenly stop though....

Hi, all I have not been on much lately (forgot my password among other things.) I was at the Montreux Jazz festival last week and it was superb even if it is such an expensive place to be. Saw the Freddie Mercury statue etc.

Roxy Music played there too and it was great to see Regina Spektor also. She had the tragedy of one of her band members drowning in lake Geneva at Montreux the day before. She was visibly shaken during the performance but she held it together and did an amazing set under such circumstances.

Now for the 'E' day my suggestion would be songs that Brian EEEEEno has been involved in. You could fill a whole show with the artists he has worked with and never play the same band twice:

Roxy Music, U2, Coldplay, James, Talking Heads, Bowie, Genisis, Robert Wyatt, Ultravox, John Cale, Carmel, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Sinead O'Conner to name a few.

For those of you interested the track listing for Bryan Ferry's new album includes a great version of 'Song To The Siren'. I heard the album in May in BFs studio and it is a much better offering than his last 3. 'Olympia' is due out on October 25.

    (1) You Can Dance (due as a single on 2nd August)(Different version to the previously released DJ Hell Re-mix)

    (2) Alphaville

    (3) Heartache By Numbers (co-written with Scissor Sisters)

    (4) Me Oh My

    (5) Shameless (A new version of the song co-written with and preveiously released by Groove Armada)

    (6) Song To The Siren (Tim Buckley Cover)

    (7) No Face, No Name, No Number (Traffic cover)

    (8) BF Bass (Ode To Olympia)

    (9) Reason Or Rhyme

    (10) Tender Is The Night

The deluxe version includes versions of:

    (11) Whatever Gets You Through The Night (John Lennon Cover)

    (12) One Night (Elvis Cover)

    (13) Move Closer (Phyliss Nelson Cover)

    Tuesday

No Fish Today - Kid Creole & The Coconuts

Brian/Babs - this is a great record - their finest imho, as usual, great lyric with biting social comment wrapped up in a catchy melody - the mystery is why it was never a single - mind you, too slow to dance to, but hey, it's great..

the henri hannah campaign for lesser played Beatles records continues with Honey Pie - the Beatles

the henri hannah campaign for Somedays by Paul McCartnety continues - it's from the album Flaming Pie

Eat The Music - Kate Bush she was on last night, so unlikely

Supper's Ready - Genesis pigs really will fly..

Alice's Restaurant - Arlo Guthrie though I'd really rather hear his Dad's introduction to Dreadzone's 'American Dread'... we'll see.

That's a pity you missed the jazzers in Monte Carlo, Paulo, because the reason you're not familiar with their work is that they are so much better live than on record - nobody plays the records..

And on the subject of jazzers, 'Sunshine Of Your Love' turned up on the montage last night.... what are they trying to tell us....?
