D Day...
I love the range of theme suggestions that we've got lined up for Monday. Can you imagine being the producer who has to decide between death or disco as a theme. Mind you death by disco sounds like a good way to go. We could also have had digital downloads, dogs, drums and Gaie's suggestion of the artists who dare to be different.
Thanks to all the bloggers who have really got behind this A-Z of themes. 3 down, 23 to go and without further ado, Monday's D theme is going to be: Distraction! Hannah Nixon suggested it and according to her it's "Songs that its impossible to do anything else while they are playing!"
So who are the artists that demand your total concentration? Get in touch and let me know for Monday's show....

seeing as that's highly unlikely, will suggest something in a similar vein instead:

Elton John Harmony

Three suggestions for tonight:
After all the 'Awww's' and other 'coo -ing' over Peter Skellern's great 'You're A Lady' last night, maybe we could keep the brass band thingy going with with either
Martha My Dear - The Beatles
which keeps the henri hannah campaign for lesser known Beatles tracks alive or, as both myslef and Norrie agree,
Wanderlust - Paul McCartney
which is absolutely fab or if you're wanting to crank it up for the weekend let's have the dance remix of:
'Sunshine of Your Love' - Cream vs The Hoxtons
this is really, really good, No matter how much Bryan hates Cream, his body will be jivin round the studio and of course:
Pigs Will/Might Fly
well all previous attempts to get Dreazone played have failed so it's PWF now:
American Dread - Dreadzone
I feel certain the listening audience will enjoy this
This Distractions theme is quite tough.... but like Glen, 'The Sound of Music' came to mind.I always stand grinning and listening anytime it comes on. You can only grin along knowingly with Vivian. Expresses evrything you want to say about musicals.Hillarious.

Momentarily,Senga,I thought you'd taken up poetry.
I was thinking, 'has daddy gone to heaven because she's sleeping with her boss? And are you making room for a cup of tea because you're otherwise filled with emotional turmoil?'
Anyway, I owe our Bryan a small apology for suggesting that he hates Cream, which he says he doesn't. I should have written 'even if bryan hates Cream'
Apologies, Bryan.
It was presumptious of me. I think the idea built up in my mind from the night last autumn when about 15 people requested 'White Room' but it didn't get played.
I did once partially succeed with my Jack Bruce campaign but only in getting the Ella Fitzgerald version of 'Sunshine Of Your Love' played.
I also remember 'Sunshine of your Love' by Cream did get played once but I think Vic or Graeme was standing in that night.
Requests for Cream are quite regular as are requests for Clapton's solo work and from myself for my hero, Jack Bruce, but I cannot recall any of them being played.
Oh well, I'll just have to persist. It had never occurred to me that requests that are consistently denied are not tantamount to a refusal.
From this it's possible to deduce that my pivotal misunderstanding is in imagining that that the show has some kind of democratic basis to it, hence my occasional disappointment.
But in reality, this is good news:requests at margin are still requests. A benign dictatorship is just as likely to pick a single request for Cream, whilst ignoring 15 requests to play The Proclaimers.
So, I'll be optomistic, but not put the champagne on ice:-)

We must remember that Woodstock 1969 occurred prior to one of the greatest confidence tricks in modern history, i.e. decimalisation.
In 1969 the exchange rate was roughly £1 - $2.4
In 2010 the exchange rate is roughly £1 - $1.5
In 1969 the going rate for mud in New York State was $0.32 per gallon.
In 2010 the going rate for mud in Perth & Kinross is £5.16 per gallon.
The situation is further complicated by a U.S. gallon being not quite as ample as an Imperial gallon, and also Her Majesty's Government's attempts to convince us that gallons no longer exist. (see decimalisation con, above).
Add to this the fact that in New York in 1969 the price represented a 97.4% profit margin, and in Scotland in 2010 97.4% tax. This should be enough to convince us to pack our bags and go live in the U.S.A., where the music is better and the mud is cheaper.
Y'all know it makes sense. Yup!

I don't know where to start..
There is a beautiful jazzy ballad called, 'Distractions' by Paul Mccartney on the 'Flowers In the Dirt' album which might be good for opening or closing the show.
Another McCartney song that stops me in my tracks is 'Somedays' from Flaming Pie.
Others which have the same effect are:
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - the Beatles
but only the acoustic version from the Love album
Say Hello Wave Goodbye - Soft Cell
but only the 12" from Memorabilia
Two Grey Rooms Joni Mitchell
This Womans Work - Kate Bush
I Saw The Light - Todd Rundgren
Helpless K D Lang was on last weeek, so doubtless disqualified.
You're Not The Only One - Love & Money
My First Night Alone Without You - Bonnie Raitt
Too Long At The Fair - Bonnie Raitt
Walk Tall - Dreazone
Walking In The Wind - Traffic
Tickets To Waterfalls - Jack Bruce
and if you're minded towards a burst of classical ...
Benedictus - Karl Jenkins
Barber - String Quartet in B Minor Op11 Adagio Choral version of much loved Adagio for Strings - quite magnificent
regardez youse
