Firstly, thank you for all your birthday wished tonight. Much appreciated. As an old boy, I really do cherish your good wishes. It was also a pleasure to race through some great 'Riffs' for our letter R. Some unexpected requests in amongst the batch, and as ever far too many to fit into only 2 hours. It certainly was an extremely busy show.
So, we move to S and we've decided to take up Gaie Brown's theme of 'Sports'. Initially I was utterly uninspired by the idea, then started to think about running, swimming, flying, cycling songs; as well as anything that features shots, pots, baskets, goals or posts in the title. There must be literally thousands to choose from. I look forward to your abundant, tasteful and no doubt amusing suggestions and nominations for Thursday night's show. It'll be my last letter of the alphabet before Bryan returns to the hotseat next week. Speak to you soon.

But the Tenacious D one - I'm serious. It's the best song in the world. (If my PC wasn't knacked, I'd be linking to this song. All my ahref handy link stuff has gone AWOL. Lucky for some. Cracking tune, love the sentiment. Fits the parameters of the show. THIS SONG IS THE BEST!! Aye. I quietly like it. Nobody has to play it. I'll just listen to it on my own, alone. And feel the power. Or summat. Who cares)
Scotch - you've got one more night of Vic in charge. ask for something YOU want instead of asking for someone else to ask for it for you. Even if it's just jestin'. Glen gets away with being a grumpy old arse - his requests still get played. As they should, they are usually excellent, however jaundiced. It's a funny old world.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed Fever. I think the team must have liked it too because that's the first time I've had two tracks picked on the same night, though 'Fever' wasn't acknowledged as such.
I found it by accident when I was revisiting the Southside Johnny track, 'The Fever', on Spotify. I was completely blown away with the Adam Freeland Remix of Sarah Vaughn - anyway, it turns out Verve have remixed lots of these jazz standards, there's a whole series of them and some of it is breathtaking. I stuck Fever on loud at New Year and the whole place was jumpin.

Re:#26
I always ask for songs I want to hear. The idea of requesting a song or band just because they match a theme is anathema to me. I'm sure you've noticed that Uncle Vic is not as forthcoming as Bryan when it comes to playing Country music. If going through the motions of asking Julie to make the request on my behalf gets the song played, I regard that as a result.

Ironically, it is this one change in the last two weeks, that has made the show come alive, I think. Instead of hearing what the successful texters are chomping on as they text, we're hearing what people want to hear whether it's played or not.
