In the zone...
As well as the usual celtic favourites I'd like to get in some folk and celtic influenced pop so don't hang back with your suggestions. I am thinking things like The Waterboys, Pogues and even Elvis Costello. As you might imagine we have a huge collection of celtic music here at Radio Scotland so we should be able to satisfy demand.
All the zones can be found on the front page of the website and the good news is that from Monday they will be broadcast through the night, every night on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotland.

for starters, unlikely I daresay, but what about The McCalmans, with the retiral of Ian meaning their last ever appearance together will be in Glasgow this December. They're a brilliant live act and with Ian's father coming from Bute obviously that makes them special to me. There's a song on the most recent album that is about a place on Bute I hold very dear and it was a lovely surprise to find it. It's not the most stunning tune you ever heard and possibly a bit too 'folky' for GIO, - it's just special to me, so I'll give it a go anyway
The Moor Road - the McCalmans, from the album Coming Home
and I'd love to hear some 'new' Runrig with Bruce Guthro - Barrowlands a sell-out this December - he's clearly doing something right!
The Ocean Road - Runrig
also, it would be excellent to hear Dougie Maclean doing something other than Caledonia - for instance
Big River - Dougie Maclean

An important point Gaie - how far do we go with this?
Last January I went to a festival called Celtic Connections to see the Indian percussionist, Trilok Gurtu - and this January coming we're getting to hear a resurgant Love & Money.
Well, I guess we won't be getting Trilok played, and, if Adam's observations are correct I won't be getting anything played anyway, - so I'll go with Sometimes I Want To Give Up - Love & Money.
There is a little known album released on Iona records by a band called The Colour Of Memory which is a hidden gem that they never put promotional money into. It would be great to hear the track The Grace.
Gaie, I've got that Freightened Rabbit album, but haven't quite gotten into it yet.

Mildly disagreeing with PP on the Sinead Lohan track: I'm after
* Sinead Lohan - The Fish
but with her voice, I'll take anything I can get.
I'm the same about Karen Matheson, so can we have
* Capercaille - Both Sides the Tweed
If you can get hold of the wonderful soundtrack to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Irish/Americana series "" then you could do the whole show. But I'll limit it to:
* Hothouse Flowers - Lakes of Pontchartrain
* Elvis Costello - Mischievous Ghost
* Everley Brothers - Rose Connolly
This is a bit diddle-aye, but is a lot of fun:
* Goats Don't Shave - Las Vegas (in the hills of Donegal)
Completely agree with Gaie on the McCalmans. I'd go for
* The McCalmans - Festival Lights
although it's about 6 weeks late, it's still kinda that time of year
You can't do this theme without *some* Sawdoctors, so can I propose (as an opening track, or straight out of the 7pm news) either of:
* The Sawdoctors - The Green & Red of Mayo
* The Sawdoctors - The Joyce Country Ceili Band
You'd not expect a melodion track on GiO, but this has a great groove to it, and has Adam Clayton (and other luminaries) on it:
* Sharon Shannon - Bjorn Again Polka
failing that, then you could go for a track that always makes me smile:
* Steve Earle/Sharon Shannon - Galway Girl
Another instrumental band you really do need to get on is Shooglenifty
* Shooglenifty - Venus in Tweeds
Wonderfully stripped back crossover celtic/dance track - with a great fiddle guest from Steve Wickham of the Waterboys:
* Sinead O'Connor - Stretched Upon Your Grave
