That was the year that was...

Bryan Burnett | 10:23 UK time, Monday, 3 January 2011

Tonight's theme poses a very simple question. What's the best thing you heard in 2010? Some of the most talked about records were Arcade Fire, Gorillaz and Jonelle Monai, but what were the most played albums in your house? I loved Rumer's album and I was blown away by hearing Scottish band, Admiral Fallow for the first time. there were some terrific pop singles as well from the likes of Cee Lo Green and that Barbara Streisand song never failed to bring a smile to my face, although I know some people found it irritating in the extreme. It needn't be brand new tracks mind you. If there's something old that you discovered for the first time this year then feel free to suggest it. The best songs of the past 12 months should make a great show and an interesting snapshot of what our bloggers have been enjoying...

#4 likewise, Steve - it's one of my very favourites on the iPod, yet in spite of the radio having been on all day at work I never heard it before GIO last year.

Without a microscopic shadow of a doubt the most fresh and amazingly hypnotic sound I heard in 2010 came from a new LA duo called Nostalghia. One listen of 'MechANIcal Heart' was enough to convince me that I was in the presence of something special, and daringly different.

Would be well pleased if you could give this one a slot in what is likely to be a busy schedule.

I bought Uprising but didn't much enjoy it though I heard

    Supermassiveblackhole - Muse

and think it one of the finest records ever made - I first heard it on GIO & also big 2nd's for the Villagers though I think

Set The Tigers Free is the daddy.

    Regardez youse

PS I think I love Plastic Beach because its a prog rock album.. seriously!

    Hello,

I stumbled upon a band called Crippled Black Phoenix last year and found them to be quite amazing. Its a super group involving a few bands, Mogwai and others.

For tonight i would like to hear Crippled Black Phoenix - Really, How'd It Get This Way?

    or

Of a Lifetime, originaly a Journey track.

Its quite hard to find a track they do under 12mins so i have selected these two for the benifit of the show.

    Kind regards,

    Thomas Hannah

I see a song I've been asking for but have played has made it onto the playlist!!!

    The Bees - 'Winter Rose'

I'll definitely second...or is it third...Villagers - 'Becoming A Jackal' fantastic song...and of course the Graham Parker song. Much underrated.

I am fond of The Coral just now...'Walking In the Winter' or 'Dreaming of you'

I like 'The Rat' by The Walkman - Relentless! Fantastic!

a cover of the Beatles song 'Girl' by folk singer John Tams

Jim Jones Review sound good - 'Shoot First'

and...finally, an old song I heard at my friend's house in France for the first time, which is totally brilliant...'Hey Joe' - Willy DeVille's mariachi version...wonderful!

Can any of the techies explain why the time this thread was posted is allegedly 10:23 this morning, yet it wasn't accessible at lunchtime?

    We should be telt!

P.S. I salute the lack of accessibility!

#19 I think the Capt. explained why this happens sometimes. Something to do with it being set on a timer to get posted and then it disnae work.
Kinda like the "my alarm didn't go off" excuse.
