This harks back to the night a few months ago when that most extraordinary of things happened: a track nobody chose got played.... we were all psyched for
the above when the bold Bryan decided to play the hideous David Grey version instead. Our hero then said he'd find a place to squeeze the Soft Cell 12" version in on a future show. This is it!
Maybe it was a time thing, cause the above is just on eight glorious minutes including a wonderful electric oboe solo in the middle (at least, that what I think it is
- we should have a competition to properly identify it) .. but, as we all endured 10 minutes of Freebird on classic rock night, 8 minutes of Soft Cell on 1981 night is hardly less appropriate.
Let's Get It Awwwwwn.

Probably too 80s but so what, it was a great time - Miami Vice on TV, Margaret Thatcher as PM, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd beating the Old Firm, Chariots of Fire, Scottish Grand Slam, the list goes on and on.

I think I'm right - the Memorabilia album was 91 and Julian Mendelsohn re-did it for that album, but I had a 12" vinyl that is virtually identical to the 'Memorabilia' track, so I think he remixed the 12" for that album, but I don't think it's a 'new' version. In fact, there are a few versions, but as far as I can tell, they are all from/originate in 81 - however it's done, the tune and the vocal are all 81.
I wouldn't completely dislike the David Grey version, if I'd never heard this version. In comparison with this, David's laconic delivery and lethargic pace just don't cut it imho. I should add, that also applies to other versions by Soft Cell which also pale in comparison with this one, imho.

Yes its a big thank you to Glen Miller for this theme - I think his original idea was to have two weeks of the 80s, a year a night - but he'll be happy enough.
Scotch Git has been trying to get Red Sovine on for a long time and he's certainly due a mention.
