A graayyyttt track to start off the show
BTW this track could have qualified for revolution night (it was originally called "Revolution" but had to change because of the Beatles song of the same name), for rip it up night (Townsend smashed a whole lot of guitars on stage) and deeper meaning night (it was about youngsters getting fed up with the hippy flower power scene)
I commend this tae the hoose

TR's the crazy, hairy USA maddie cabbie in the video. And also a highly accomplished singer/ songwriter in his own right. Even if you don't like industrial rock. There's much more to him than that.

seriously, it's over 20 years since i last heard that.
it was iain anderson that played it (once)..........luckily we used to record his programmes on tape...........then go for walks on deserted beaches listening on the wee yellow sony walkman........and a few times i would walk, in the dead of night to the nearby church and listen to that song............if you think it sounded amazing on the radio just think what it sounds like on a remote scottish island in a remote isolated church that looks a bit like iona abbey with the only other sound the unrelenting wind (and the dog scraping at the church door wanting to get in).....i'll be there next week.....minus the children but still with that haunting song that's never left my head (and different dog).......take me to the place...
and so if you ever did have a campaign for a statue then one that would get my vote would be the one that had ross sitting at his piano with a gorbals tyke, elbow perched on the piano ball under arm smiling at ross.......and marzaroli, camera in hand photgraphing the pair...........and every year on the birthday of marzaroli there would be a public foto fest round the statue while that song played gently.
billy preston..............singing his own song.........thats the way god planned it.

but you can add a to those.
As a representative of all that, can we have
* The Soggy Bottom Boys - Man of Constant Sorrow
