A trailer for Monday's edition of Get It On was broadcast prematurely on Tom Morton's show today.

If you want to you can hear this trailer on the 'Listen Again' facility. 1 hour 27 minutes in.

    Here is a wee sample:-

"It's Themeless Monday, so ask for whatever you like!"

    You like that? Here's another:-

"There are no limits on tonight's playlist! Let's make it one of the most eclectic shows yet!"

    Yes.

Hands up - one of the lads just introduced me to this lot. I've lost at least a stone since - can't stop dancing along. Usually in the kitchen. Whilst cooking something exotic or mundane - depends what's in the fridge.

Nothin wrong wi 'worse'. It's the 'ever' that puts it aw wrong.

    Mary-Doll,

For one thing, #8 follows #7. For another, I expect better from the ´óÏó´«Ã½.

I agree with Lynne Truss and the much missed Keith Waterhouse.

Aberrant apostrophes are an abhorrent abomination.

There was one teacher remembered by all from Rothesay Academy of a certain era. He was terrifying in his use of sarcasm and there will be people whose lives were undoubtedly blighted by his withering ferocity; but there are also many who have been grateful all our lives for his insistence on precision in use of language. He was the one teacher that absolutely everyone spoke of when we had a reunion a few years ago, and the one teacher whose words could still be recalled with absolute clarity.

That's not entirely out of GIO context as his son was a DJ at one time and must have been one of the first GIO 'regulars', though not in several years now.

anyway, a wee eclectic mix for tomorrow for starters:

Month of May - Arcade Fire - timely

Ghost Woman Blues - The Low Anthem - favourite band of the moment

Quarryman's Lament - Joe Bonamassa - favourite guitarist of the moment

Angels With Dirty faces - Frankie Miller - in celebration of release of boxed set

El Rayo-X - David Lindley & Jackson Browne - because it's great fun

Chip - The Real McKenzies - because because

As new social convenor Gaie, tomorrows themeless bank holiday would have been a good night to have arranged a swally. I mean come on get the finger out!

  • Comment number 22.

Paolo, I have to remind you AGAIN that I could not be appointed social convenor before the AGM, and being newly employed again I find my time in short supply for arranging the extra-curriculars, therefore will not be standing for office.

However, just say the word and I'll be happy to attend whichever event you, as current social convenor, are organising. My calendar of social events is unsurprisingly blank at present.

Well done on being gainfully employed again, although I have to say I don't miss it. I wonder if you knew my old teacher JD who went to Rothesay. A friend of mine visits him occasionally. Approaching 90 but still able to recall his errant pupils and eccentric colleagues.

  • Comment number 31.

#26/#27 thank you both very much - very lucky to have got the job, though it may not last long: it's a temporary post on a gaelic unit in a primary school and well may you laugh, since my gaelic is most definitely not up to the mark. I'm in charge of one wee boy so can only hope that as long as I keep him occupied they'll hold off throwing me out for a week or two. You should see/hear the kids doing their times tables in gaelic while patting legs and head in the correct order - it's fine for those that have rhythm and don't have to think about it; a double challenge for the others.

A Brighter Beat - Malcolm Middleton

  • Comment number 32.

Thanks, Glen too. Did he teach in Rothesay?

  • Comment number 33.

    or was he the rector?

    thanks, mary-doll too

A huge 2nd for Phoebe Snow and the McCartney classic 'Every Night' . I had it as a single late 70's (I think) but haven't heard it in years. I must go and download it now.

Sorry about Polly and whilst I 'get it', equally, I can't pretend to like it - being honest, much of the punk stuff just doesn't stand up beyond it's significance to it's time.

I note that none of the GIO disco playlist made it onto the real playlist - mind you, news that Elie Goulding's version of 'Your Song' ( "the worst record ever made" - G Miller) is the future monarch's favourite record does make you wonder if my debilitating comprehensive education was so bad after all. I was rather taken with the bridesmaid myself. Wonder what she's into?

  • Comment number 38.

    #36

aha! well yes, indeed he was the fourth rector in my time, though I don't think the turnover was all my fault. And he'll certainly remember Nelly, the English teacher. And the history teacher, she was a bit bonkers.

Henri, if you're well enough in to know what the real playlist was, how come you don't know what the country's most eligible girl is into?

  • Comment number 39.

#37 so did I. (The Phoebe Snow single).

Never noticed the bridesmaid. Was too busy trying to see if Harry's dad had been invited.

  • Comment number 40.

    #39

That reminds me; you can ask for Alan & his Sherman Tank on Monday.

  • Comment number 41.

#25 I would have bought you a pint (again) had you been there

A fine trip to the pub slightly spoiled by having to drop sails & motor home in order to beat the tide

  • Comment number 42.

    Monday
You went the Wrong way old King Louie / Alan sherman

Your right Scotch this is a bonus. Thought I only had a tank theme left to request it

  • Comment number 43.

I'd better show my support for 'Every Night' by Phoebe Snow considering the umpteen-and-a-bit times I've requested it!

  • Comment number 44.

Which bridesmaid are you all talking about? The wee one who looked like a little old man? I'm glad the very little ones disappeared for most of the ceremony...she was scaring me!

  • Comment number 45.

    #37

And they were doing so well up to that point.

    #38

To lose two rectors may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose three looks like carelessness.

  • Comment number 46.

#31 Gaie, well done finding something that you've got an interest in, it's a rare opportunity and hopefully your enthusiasm will carry you through!

    Themeless Monday:-

I'm gonna go with something from my favourite album at the moment "The Deep Field"

  • Comment number 49.

As Monday has 'NO' theme I decided to find songs with the word No in their title:

No Strange Delight - Roxy Music
No Face No Name No Number - Bryan Ferry (Traffic cover)
Nobody Loves Me - Bryan Ferry

    J.O'B.

  • Comment number 50.

I wonder why we don't have a thread for Themeless Monday?

It's not like there are any distractions.......

  • Comment number 51.

    THEMELESS MONDAY:

Pink Martini...perfect band for a Bank Holiday GIO show:
    'Splendor In The Grass'
'Let's Never Stop Falling In Love'
    'City Of Night'

    Or...if you won't give them a go...

'Gold In Them Hills' - Ron Sexsmith + Chris Martin (one of my oft-requested, studiously-ignored songs...just beautiful...well worth a play)

'Patio Song' - Gorky's Zygotic Mynki ... "Isn't it a lovely day for love"

'Rock and Roll' - Velvet Underground

'Agolo' or 'Battu'- Angelique Kidjo ... African music's lovely for a sunny day

'Hey Joe' - Willy De Ville's superb mariachi version

I'm jolly awfully keen on Wye Oak at the moment...'The Altar'...great harmonies

The Daughter suggests 'Mr Curiosity' - Jason Mraz...she likes the 'surprise' towards the end.
