For your pleasure...

Bryan Burnett | 19:57 UK time, Wednesday, 10 August 2011

Here's the great list of closing lines submitted by Get It On regular, Patrick McCafferty. He's promised to send us the answers tomorrow so in the meantime see how many you can figure out.

Tomorrow it's pleasure and pain - we'll do one pleasure followed by a pain so feel free to suggest one of each.

3."he's a liar and i'm not sure about you"

    THURSDAY

In December 2002, Mary Gauthier phoned her mum.

"So what?" I hear you say. Well, in March 2002 Mary turned forty, and this phone call was the very first time she and her mother exchanged words.

    'March 11, 1962' - Mary Gauthier

The word pain seems woefully inadequate...

For all who enjoy a pleasurable Saturday night out:

    New York Groove - Hello

    DC

  • Comment number 3.

    THURSDAY

    If #1 is too heavy, here are some alternatives;

    Pleasure:- 'Seduced' - Mary Coughlan

Pain:- 'Broken Fingers' - Sam Baker

Mix 'n' Match:- 'The Masochism Tango' - Tom Lehrer

  • Comment number 4.

....and with a similar start to #2 but expressing the pain of a loser:

You win again - Bee Gees

    DC

  • Comment number 5.

Pain (but a pleasure to listen to this)...

'Pump Up The Jam' - The Lost Fingers

If you can't find it ask Ravi, he played it the other night...certainly a bit different!

  • Comment number 6.

    7) Avenues & Alleyways - Tony Christie

    11) Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel ~ Wrong words, but I'd put money on it.

    19) Jackie - Scott Walker

    20) The Intro & The Outro - Bonzos

I assume the others are young people's music...

  • Comment number 7.

Black Lung Heartache - Joe Bonamassa

Falling in Love Again - Robert Plant

  • Comment number 8.

I like early Queen. Some of the later songs (apart from the last stuff) were absolute mince though. The "Fried Chicken" track included.
I'll guess no. 19 is Jacky - Jaques Brel reinterpretation by Marc Almond. Some of the others we already know.

    Thursday
    It's a Heartache Bonnie Tyler
Ian Dury and the Blockheads Reasons To Be Cheerful
    Frankie Goes To Hollywood Relax
Someone's shouting my bubble bath is ready.

No doubt more to follow, even if it's mince.

    oh well here goes........................
there are two songsters who i shall never request.
and its always with deep disappointment that i hear them regularly on the show.
one who shall remain nameless meantime.
the other i feel fits in with the flip side of half the programme for thursday.
never mind pain, this man inflicted terror on an infant by swinging the child over a balcony at some height.indefensible.
so to redress the balance i think it a small gesture to play a song which never gets a hearing but its one of the most innocent songs about pleasure, ever.
so stand up and be counted, if songs by michael jackson can be aired i cannot see any reason whatsoever why this song cannot be played.................

    'je t'aime'.................jane birkin/serge gainsbourg

or failing that the one with fun and laughter.................

    'summer holiday'...................cliff avec les shadows

    Always makes me smile.

    #45

    Aye, that's a good one.

If it's pain you're after then Christy's Delirium Tremens would do nicely. Not entirely sure it's tea-time radio suitable though - depends on which version you have. The , but live: definitely not! There's a verse that starts OK (and on theme):
I dreamt I was in ecstacy in Heaven, and in agony in Hell,
I was bored in Limbo and then I was in Purgatory as well

but goes rapidly downhill after that, involving barbed wire...

I only knew that because I think I'm the only person in Scotland who purchased the single. I thought it was going to be the biggest hit of all time, evidently, all my taste's in my mouth.

Crying in the Rain - Everly Brothers
Kisses Sweeter than Wine - Jackson Browne & Bonnie Raitt

    Leaving Strathconnan - Runrig
Running to the Light - Runrig

  • Comment number 50.

There's something sado/masochist about "Piece of my Heart" though Joplin's buzzsaw hatchet job is torture to my ears.Etta James does it proud along with her definitive take on "Only Women Bleed".So far as the pleasure principle goes then Joni Mitchell's "Chelsea Morning"makes me feel glad to be alive or Blood ,Sweat and Tears "You Made Me So Very Happy".Cheers,Willie Bartke

  • Comment number 51.

Surprised Roxy John hasnt been in with this one...

"In Every Dream Home a Heartache" - Roxy Music.

Especially apt as it comes from their second album, "For Your Pleasure".

  • Comment number 52.

#51 I know, I'd thought of 'For Your Pleasure' but Virginia Plain got played last night, so I doubt it's on the cards. Never makes much difference to the fab four, I have to say, but that's okay with me.

    #47 close.....

  • Comment number 54.

#42 capt, as someone who equates horses with pleasure I looked up your shouts and also found an instrumental called When I was on Horseback by which is nice. There's a Steeleye Span song by the same name, which may or may not be the same song, the vocals are too much like fingernails on polystyrene for me to listen to. Anyway, a wee diversion, and one of the real benefits of GIO.

  • Comment number 55.

    Seconds/ thirds/ nths for these:

#26 Great shout, Frank. Marillion's best.
    #33 Precious. Lush DM song!
#49 Love that Jackson Browne/ Bonnie Raitt song, gaie.
