Le Freak...

Bryan Burnett | 20:01 UK time, Monday, 22 August 2011

Sir Harry Secombe doing If I Ruled The World was a wonderful addition to tonight's musical mix although I did take exception to Miss Babs lumping him in with her 'bizzare' artists like Joe Dolce! Fats Waller also sounded great at the end of the show.

Tuesday's edition of Get It On will also be known as 'the night of the living dead.' Glasgow is still looking like downtown Philadelphia and under the grip of Brad Pitt fever as filming continues for the zombie horror flick, World War Z. So, inspired by the horrifying goings on in George Square, I'm asking you to compile the perfect horror movie soundtrack.

Surely Michael Jackson's Thriller is a shoo-in, but what about Dusty doing Spooky, or perhaps you might want to suggest the music from Pyscho?

Peter Gabriel - Intruder, seriously scary. Great track.

  • Comment number 2.

    Bryan,

That's no' how ye spell bizarre.

  • Comment number 3.

This is a truy fantastic track.

Thomas Dolby - I Scare Myself

well worth looking up even if not played on show.

  • Comment number 4.

    Just put on the album

Welcome To My Nightmare - Alice Cooper

    for the first 50 mins.

If not, then the title track, "Black Widow" (you'll see where MJ got the idea for Thriller), "Cold Ethyl" or "Steven".

  • Comment number 5.

Your Song - Ellie Goulding - Truly horrific

  • Comment number 6.

I know - too obvious, title-wise. But there's more to it.
    The Cranberries Zombie

    Random list off-top-of-head:
    Human League Being Boiled
    Shakespeare's Sister Stay
    Propaganda Dr Mabuse

    Communards So Cold The Night
A song that would fit any number of horror movie scenarios of scary person lurking in the darkness (and one that will make all non-Jimmy fans squeal in horror. Bonus.) Very disturbing, but also incredibly beautiful and enticing. A bit like those Hammer house lovelies who just happen to have very piercing teeth. Jimmy's no beauty, but..... anyways. There is a holy man on hand to ....whatever. Overstretched that a bit already. ;o)

  • Comment number 7.

    Sunshine on Leith / Proclaimers

  • Comment number 8.

#5 eric - your fixation with EG is a bit unhealthy. Are you sure you're not in denial? Or a relative?

  • Comment number 9.

Wrong chords, wrong melody, a lifeless vocal performance, not a scintilla of personality, a total absence of joy, without a spark of invention - a crime against music. You'd have to work really hard to make a record as bad as this from such a good song.

  • Comment number 10.

Wednesday's theme is feeding my paranoia...

    >8-D

  • Comment number 11.

SG, that was a great shout of yours tonight - I just wish I didn't have a picture of the guy in my head - horror stuff right enough.

    Fairground - Pulp

  • Comment number 12.

For my birthday in 2001, just before the September 11th attacks, my eldest gave me the album Carboot Soul by Nightmares on Wax - which I love... it may be a forlorn hope to hear a really really beautiful instruemental on GIO, but the great cinematic soundscape that is Les Nuits - Nightmares On Wax I always associate with New York and the terrorist attacks. If you listen, you'll understand why, which doesn't diminish from the track at all..and name of the band justifies it anyway!

Helter Skelter - the Beatles has similar unhappy assocoaitions, but that notwithstanding one of McCartney's best rockers .

It will be a similar forlorn hope of hearing even some of Strange - Hidden Orchestra

Well, that'll do for starters, not forgetting Dignity - Deacon Blue

#11 Scary find, Gaie. That's one I'd chosen to forget, it's just too weird. Seriously unsettling. Good to hear someone other than Jarvis getting a shot at the vocals, but.

#19 it's to drive us onto twitter, no doubt - but it's not 140 words because if you tweet from ths site your down to 76 words since the title takes up the rest. A challenge for someone as verbose as me.

sorry characters, not words - freudian slip there, I'd need at least 140 words.

  • Comment number 25.

never heard it before, mary-doll, just spotified fairground since carousel-type music's often used in a scary sort of way - said it before, say it again, that's the best of GIO for me, unexplored avenues.

    - the Dirty Robbers

  • Comment number 26.

#19 I'm guessing they mean keep it short and sweet, but snappy, Scotch. Nothing you're not capable of. I can only do the latter, so that's me......................... ;o)

Fa kens, Scotch? I don't watch much telly, either, I only know about DD because my colleagues talk about it.
If it's about pitting blog VS twitter - I'm out. Oranges and lemons.

  • Comment number 31.

It would never get played for good reason probably at tea time but the whole Life In The Bush Of Gohsts lp by Byrne and Eno is a standout for this theme. Incredible album. The Capn has probably tried downloading the 24 tracks to remix but its beyond my capabilities:

Byrne / Eno - The Jezebel Spirit (one for the montage maybe)

Byrne / Eno - Help Me Somebody (makes me nervous just typing it)

I cannot help but wonder if the intention is not really to play anything scary but just refer to Gohst, Thriller, Zombie, Dracula etc. Gohst Town etc if so as well as Thomas Dolby:

    Indigo Girls - Gohst

The Rapahels - Too Many Gohsts

    Indigo Girls - Gohst

Stevie Nicks - Midnight (A Vampires Dream)

will someone txt me to let me know it is not too scary....

  • Comment number 32.

matter of fact, when they do well, we don't lose an hour of GIO?

    Shome mishtake shurely?

Or maybe it is a sad truth that the performance of our football teams in serious competition is so underwhelming that GIO is a bigger buzz..?

'Leslie Anne Levine'...a creepy child-ghost story from The Decemberists.

  • Comment number 77.

Since it's a teatime show and the production team really care about their extended GIO family, they might like to help parents who might be struggling with child discipline by playing a cautionary tale of what could happen to children who suck their thumbs against their parents' wishes.

At the least, after hearing this really quite alarming and unusual song, they'll think twice before sticking their grubby little digits in their gobs...at most they'll cower trembling under the dining table hiding their hands up their sleeves...I'm quite wicked underneath my caring exterior and think either result would be amusing.

  • Comment number 80.

Do we have time to write the script for this horror film? Who plays the villain? Who is the damsel in distress? And who is the man in the 'Scream' mankini?

    A suggestion:
    Henri should do the narrative

  • Comment number 81.

to set the scene/theme for the evening, could I respectfully suggest the following from my suitably scary album entitled 'Essential Death & Horror Sound Effect 2 (´óÏó´«Ã½)'

    track 4: 'Three Men Screaming'

at a mere 8 seconds it should do the trick on a few fronts!

    streets of Leith.

"Hurrawreer my guid man, can ye tell me where I can find a wee boat? I
want tae buy it tae sail through the canal and on up the west coast"

"I'm a street sweeper," came the cheerful rejoinder, "not a **
yacht broker and if that nag * in the road again I'll give it my
    broom surprise."

    Bryan sighed.

"Move on Morrisey", he said to his horse, "let's head down the docks.
It seems people have no Dignity about here".

In a close, 'Senga', a lady of the night, accompanied by her big black
greyhound dug called Bob, watched as the horse took its rider down the
    hill................

(music - Bad Moon Rising - CCR)

"Hello, big boy," she offered. "You'll have had your oats."

Morrissey continued munching a bunch of gladiolii and breaking wind
    loudly.

"If you're looking for smack dealers, you've come to the right place."

(Music: Crystal Ship - The Doors)

    There was a thud.

Senga thanked Morrisey. "That will get the roses growing".

That special moment was spoiled when a tanned, (allegedly good looking)
chap appeared. Onto his grotesque, over-sized, hand-knitted mankini was
    embroidered Edvard Munch's "The Scream".

Over the road, Tubular Bells began to play........
Just then the sky lit up, there was a crash of thunder followed by a bloodcurdling scream.
'don't worry about that' Senga told our weary traveller, 'that's just Kate. Dunno what has got into her these days. The slightest hint of lightning and she just loses it'
In the background the strains of howling wolfs smokestack lightning could be heard.

Just had another thought from the soundtrack of 28 days later the amazingly creepy In The House - In A Heartbeat composed by John Murphy a song that when watching the film makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up on end.
