The gift of music...

Bryan Burnett | 20:07 UK time, Wednesday, 21 December 2011

That was the loveliest show of the year tonight. I am so grateful to the Glasgow Chamber Choir for joining us in the studio for get It On carol concert. They were as touched as I was to get messages from around the world from people enjoying their music. Thanks to you for all the suggestions as well. If you missed I, or if you just want to have a nosey to see what they look like then there are some great pics and a couple of video clips on our webpage. Tomorrow night I'll be asking what you would like to find in your Christmas Stocking. From a Dylan box set to the Military Wives single, I'll be asking what CDs would make the perfect present?

    THURSDAY

    Easy peasy...

Any track will do, but my preference would be for

    Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull

    Season of Goodwill? Prove it!

    SNAP!

Me to Scotch.. I'd even settle for the deluxe edition in Fopp, Union St.

Not that I've been dropping hints or anything!

    Dear Santa,

I'd be thrilled to find any of these in my Christmas stocking

Blues Express - John Mayall - track: Rolling With the Blues

Circuital - My Morning Jacket - track: Victory Dance

All At Once - Airborne Toxic Event - track: Welcome to Your Wedding Day

Dr Bone's Fried Medicine - The Rudiments - track: Start to Roll

and I really like getting a CD I hadn't thought of too.

Please could you also bring me an all-expenses-paid trip to see Tom Petty in Dublin or Cork next summer, and an after-concert party pass.

    thank you, dear Santa

    love
    Gaie

.........oh, and better warn Mr Petty that someone might be a bit annoyed that he isn't coming to Scotland......

  • Comment number 5.

He's been well warned, let me tell you, DC. Every time another date's announced.

'Great news folks, we're coming to Novia Scotia'

'Not impressed, Tom, what about Auld Scotia?

    Ya bam.'

  • Comment number 6.

I have asked for El Camino by The Black Keys from my sister. Strangely my favourite track is Sister ☺

  • Comment number 7.

I will also ask Santa for Kite by Steven Lindsay. It would be great to hear the title track...

    Often requested etc etc

The cold has returned with a vengence: holed up in Milngavie and zillions still to do for Xmas.

Still, this time last year I had about ten coming for Xmas dinner and no working boiler because it had given up in the big freeze up.

I'd really like to wake up on Xmas morning and find "Sleeper" and "Into The Murky Water" by The Leisure Society in the stocking.

i donated my originals to the Library at Pacific Quay but we've yet to hear any of it on GIO - it would round off my Get It On year.

Either: Cars - The Leisure Society or If God Did Give Us A Choice - the Leisure Society ( very festive).

If I pull myself together later I'll deliver the usual box of chocs for the team at Pacific Quay.

    regardez youse

Oh.. and a couple of tickets for Amiral Fallow at Celtic Connections....

Taste The Coast - Admiral Fallow

The Leisure Society still first choice though.

I would like to send everyone two presents:

kd lang and the siss bang boom - Sing It Loud lp (for the bloggers I request Heaven as they are all a heavenly bunch of great people who make this spot on the planet very engaging, interesting and humourous)

Gillian Welch - The Harrow and The Harvest (best lp and best gig of the year , maybe equall with the Bible, I dedicate The Way That It Goes to Bryan and The Team)

    And for my presents:

The Who Quadrophenia - Deluxe edition please (Love Reign O'er Me)

The Smiths mega rhino box please deluxe edition - Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me....

I think I've already got all the music I want on my ayechoons. I hear lots of good stuff on Get It On and, if a particular piece of music takes my fancy, I tend to go ahead and download it there and then.

Perhaps the only CD I'd wish for is a recording of Santa Claus singing:

"...the Sat Nav Plotter for the boat is in that big box under the tree..."

About as much chance of that happening as we have of hearing

    Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull

Glad to see we got into double figures. It would have been a record I think if we hadnt.

Even "Human League Night" got 16 posts.

Bob Harris is playing Christmas Country songs.

    There is no escape.......

Henri that Leisure Society track was fantastic.

  • Comment number 20.

Aw, thanks... It's nice when something you've championed gets played and appreciated.

Our hero sounded unconvinced, but many thanks to Mandi for digging it out.

Much appreciated, glad you enjoyed it.

it's fairly untypical of the band, overall, but the songwriting is superb, beautifully played, melodic.. the Penguin Cafe with great lyrics.
