Fame x 2...

Bryan Burnett | 20:00 UK time, Monday, 23 January 2012

There should be a load of dusting done tonight and thanks to your musical suggestions, household tasks need never be a chore again. Lots of good ones tonight and also some brilliant puns. 'Save All Your Dishes For Me' is still my favourite. Tomorrow I'll be looking for your suggestions of the artists who have been lucky enough to have more than one go at fame. It might be people who have been part of a band then gone solo but I'm really interested in those who have adopted different personas to make it big. Although, saying that, the only one I can think of at this point is Alvin Stardust. Let's see if you can improve on that.

    TUESDAY

Willie Nelson. If you harbour doubts, compare to

Just Dropped In (to see what condition my condition was in) -

N.B. Willie recorded more than one version of this song. The track from the album

The Great Divide would be my choice.

    My usual answer:

Davie Jones with the King Bees - Liza Jane
The Mannish Boys -I pIty The Fool
Davie Jones and the Lowe Third - You've Got A Habit Of Leaving
David Bowie and The Lower Third - I Can't Help Thinking About Me
    Arnold Corns - Moonage Daydream
    David Bowie - Prettiest Star
Tin Machine -You Belong In Rock n Roll
Tao Jones Index - Pallas Athena

I'd go for Prettiest Star or Can't Help Thinking About Me

  • Comment number 4.

    My usual answer:

    - Sagittarius - Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, Byrds producer (and son of Doris Day) Terry Melcher and sometime Sinatra session guitarist Glen Campbell on this psychedelic classic from Tony Usher

    Hello ALL

The one prominent group that springs to mind.....immediately are :

Johnny and the self abusers.........who became Simple Minds...

anything early from them will highlight a flavour of the original when I saw them in The Mars Bar in Glasgow....

I travel, The American, Chelsa Girl....

Traveling Wilburys - Where Were You Last Night?

don't suppose it really fits the bill since they were all famous before anyway. I'm not quite sure of the guidelines for this one.

    Maybe

Bellbottom Blues - Derek & the Dominos - Eric Clapton

Scandinavia - Runrig - Bruce Guthro, who replaced Donnie Munro and who's a singer in his own right

The Outsider - Black Country Communion - Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham

Wheels - Foo Fighters - David Grohl

  • Comment number 12.

and I'm not sure he gained much fame from this, but he and Lou Hickey (whoever she is) made one good album

Vanity Kills - Codeine Velvet Club - Jon Fratelli

OK, Madmac, no need for apologies. I think Black Country Communion fits since it's Joe Bonamassa giving rein to his heavy metal leanings. And Derek & the Dominos?

Darlene Love's band The Blossoms provided the vocals (as The Rebelettes) on Duane Eddy - 'Dance with The Guitar Man' as well as a load of Phil Spector-produced records released under different names.

They did get to record using their own name...
The Blossoms - 'Good Good Lovin''

In a previous guise as The Dreamers...they'd been Etta James's backing singers on...
Etta James - 'Good Rockin' Daddy'

  • Comment number 28.

Well, we know Garry Glitter is on the banned list... but what about Paul Raven and his now admittedly rather ironic title "All Grown Up"?

No... okay... I thought so.... someone raised this subject on air the other week, I can't remember the context but it did set me off thinking.... are our musical memories only valid and accessible to us dependant upon the later behaviour of the performer.

And, if it is... is that not the theft of our history, our memory.

Indiscriminate revisionism? I don't think James Brown is banned and I'm sure I heard a Phil Spector produced record the other week.Should anyone who's been busted be banned too? Public Indecency? Drunk Driving?

Same debate as the Shred's knighthood, I suppose?

The Guardian are running Laughing Lenny's new album as a stream - superb.

Bryan takes The Guardian, so he'll be up for shouts form this album.

Thing is, Laughing Lenny has only ever been Laughing Lenny, a bonus for Babs on the night but Going Home - Leonard Cohen from the new album would be good for Burns Night.

Henri's Reason's to love Paul McCartney:

the Beatles - Wings - The Fireman - Percy Thrillinton - Paul Ramon etc etc

To be fair, McCartney did do it all twice. The Beatles ended with all the money frozen... Hence ballad's like My Love, which generated a few quid - check the B sides - McCartney got a transit van and did little university gigs to establish Wings in the only way he knew how. Lennon hugely admired that ' back to the beginning' mentality " I couldn't have done it" said John.

    Again.....

  • Comment number 68.

I doubt the blog got much reading - planning for Burns night will be dominating... and our hero has more of a sence of humour than that - he was tickled by last year's Blog O'Shanter.

Mind you I don't think he was best pleased by 'blog bingo', which I thought was hilarious - I thought he'd have played along by dropping the key phrases into the dialogue.

I think that's why Wogan became the doyen of Radio, he played along with his audience, creating a clubby, family 'in- joke' feel to his time on air - it was inclusive and he was relaxed with his audience to the point of absurdity.

Certainly, if he'd been presented with this level of originality and committment from the listeners, he'd have not only acknowledged it, he'd have promoted it and joined in.

The poem is really good - it deserves to be heard and I can't think of a better night for it than Burns night.

I shall miss the show.... Smiffy and will be off to see J*** B****

Well done DC / Gaie. Very clever. I've always found it too difficult to write poetry in a language i dont understand. See Burns and Shakespeare. For a couple of national bards they have never stirred my soul or given me any kind pf pleasure. They just do nothing for me. Hope that doesnt make me a bad person.

I have been to two burns suppers in my life and I have another on saturday. Thoroughly enjoyed them but that was down to the company and the drink rather than the burns and the supper. i have never enjoyed eating the entrails bit.

Will be listening tonight on my way home to see what new music Burns would have approved of.

Personally I think he would have enjoyed a pint with an adopted scot and sharing stories of their conquests over the years
