Hooky...
I'm off making an Olympic inspired programme which will air on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotland later in the year, so for the next few days the show will be looked after by Alison Craig. She's the poor lass who will wake up at 2am with Moves Like Jagger going through her head.
Tomorrow's theme was prompted by a recent article on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ News webpage which looked into the phenomenon of ultra-catchy song hooks. The article revealed that scientists use a range of terms to describe the subject - stuck-song syndrome, sticky music, and cognitive itch, or most commonly "earworm".
I'm not sure I'm comfortable with leaving you with a cognitive itch, so earworms it is. According to the science boffins, Coldplay, Queen and Abba are among the worst offenders, but who do you think has the stickiest hooks? What are the songs that once they are inside your head never want to leave?

Aw Julie ... thanks for this... just listened to the '4' album on Spoitify ... utterly brilliant, ordered on 'one click'.
Miss Babs had a good night - 12 points - but does this mean it'll be 3 shows this week? It'll upset the basis of my calculations.
Alison brings another angle to the outcome - more 'rock' orientated than Bryan and possibly even more populist - it'll be interesting to see if we slide backwards. My memory is of Alison working mostly with Babs, so not sure how she'll cope with the relative quiet of the other producers. At least she's a muso, unlike some of the other guest presenters we've had.
That was another good show.

Island In the Sun - Weezer 'hip-hip' gets stuck in my head everytime I hear it.
Second Song - TV On The Radio Ooooh -Oo -Oo - Oo. irresistable.
Shut Up & Let Me Go - The Ting Tings unshakable guitar break.
Relator - scarlett johansson/Pete Yorn some kind of flange on the guitar
Pat Benetar - Sex As A Weapon memorable hook and chorus
True Faith 94 - New Order it just sticks
Supermassive Black Hole - Muse supermassive inability to get it out of your head.
Some of these are old favourites on GIO so it would be good to hear Pat Benetar or TV On THe Radio - and there's a couple of others:
Alhtough Bryan is already shooing in 'Move Like Jagger' Maroon 5 -This Love is much better and more difficult to shift... but what would be a great laugh is:
Check My Machine - Paul McCartney from McCartney 2
Worms it's way in, and stays - that would be a revelation for the nation, most people wouldn't recognise the artist.Paul playing with his new voice sequencer machine, one of the '50 reasons to love Paul McCartney' cited by Mojo. " In 1980, it probably sounded as if he'd lost his mind, today it sounds fabulous" they say. " It still hasn't come down to earth" says Macca.Don't need to play it all, but it is utterly infectious.
