So how did it go on the singles vs album tracks front then? Were the obvious avoided?

Mainly singles, even Hey Joe which wasn't even on Hendrix's first album.

I counted three or four that were completely obvious singles,including Hey Joe, about three I was unsure about being singles and some of the rest might have been singles, but I wasn't familiar with them as such. Overall though, it was eclectic,diverse and the less obvious tracks were,excepting Coldplay (which I didn't enjoy), interesting and revelatory to hear, I thought.

I think more recent editions of 'Are You Experienced' possibly contain 'Hey Joe' which is maybe where the team got it from - though I can't recall hearing anyone specifically request that track.
