Akon ft. Eminem - 'Smack That'

Post categories:

Fraser McAlpine | 15:07 UK time, Tuesday, 14 November 2006

How much more minimal can hip hop get? This is barely more than a tiny beat, a bassdrum, and a mouse skipping about on a synth. And it's a singing mouse too, one that goes by the name of Akon.

Actually, that's doing old girlyvoice a disservice, cos this is LOADS better than his speeded-up helium-athons like 'Lonely'. There's a beautiful grain to his voice that hasn't really come out that much before.

And it's great to have Eminem back shouting the odds, even if he does sound half-asleep on this song, and less than fully engaged. Having said that, it's not as disturbing as a man with a little child's voice singing about smacking things. That's just plain wrong.

I honestly despies this song. It's degrading and utter rubbish. Eminiem has certainly let standards slip a little hasn't he? And what is Akon thinking? Smack that? Smack him!
