Kaiser Chiefs - 'Ruby'
There is such a thing as asking too many questions...like when journalists corner the Kaisers about their second album, and ask them to prove they have progressed and re-worked the sound which made their name in the first place. Now, leaving aside the issue of whether it actually counts as progress to not bothering to scream like a toothachey wolf on their songs, there's really no right answer to a question like that, as I will endeavour to prove right here and now...

If (as they have done) the band make extravagent claims about how they've left their jolly past behind them and have started to really address the modern world in which we all live, without feeling the need to UNDERMINE their IMPORTANT MESSAGE with CHEERY SMILES...well, it's hard to see where this song fits in to that. It's only slightly moodier than, say, 'Modern Way', and has the same squeaky 'la la' bits, ice-pick guitar and new wave synth twiddles as most of the rest of their songs to date.
BUT, if they came out saying that they had spent ages trying to find their sound, and weren't about to change it too much now it's finally paying off for them (thank you very much), they would look like musical stuck-in-the-muds with only one idea. Which seems a shame, as it's a good idea. And they probably aren't stuck anyway...and besides, 'Ruby' is not the kind of song you want to be too dismissive of, seeing as it's just like the sunshiney Kaiser Chiefs, only a little darker, and the video has bright orange toxic waste in it. Which rules.
So, in summary, ROCK JOURNALISTS? IF YOU CAN'T ASK ANYTHING NICE, KEEP YOUR NEB OUT!

I love this! It's so catchy and fun, like most of what the Kaiser Chiefs do.
Crackin song, "ruby ruby ruby ruby!" thats all i hear in my head now. It's just so catchy and fun, well played lads.

i don't know whether it's just that this song is still new and hasn't been played to death yet like the last album, but i recon this is their best song to date. Brilliantly catchy and a superb way to open a new album.
like most people, I was blown away when the kaiser chiefs performed at Live 8 - it made me feel proud to be british. but then again, like most people, I got very bored of them very fast, as they went from a loveable, modest bunch to a swaggering, arrogant public school boy art pop band. the lyrics on there new song are amateur, though undeniably the tune is very catchy indeed - but for me personally, this isn't good enough. I need intellectual stimulation when listening to my Indie, and Ruby fell short of my expectations. Very dissapointed indeed.

i think that this song is awesome i love it to bits in my opinion i think it is one of the kaisers best songs!
i dont understand why they are not number one seriously what is wrong with people these days they let stuff like mika get to number one but the chiefs are number 2 what is going on. the criticsneed to lay off because this album is goonna be the best yet and they need to undersatnd that the cheifs are never gonna be onehit wonders... any one who dissergres need to get a life the chiefs rock.

I personally think Kaiser Cheifs are a poor mans blur and havent changed their sound sufficiently enough to keep a more demanding music fan happy - sure if your the type of person that likes groups to sound the same every album (like oasis post-whats the story) then no doubt you will like it but to me its just so mideocre and bland - my advise dont buy their album get bloc party instead.
I think 'Ruby' is a fantastic song. The lads have pulled off another great song. I'm totally in love with it. I also love the video for this, with the small town growing around them, amazing graphics and effects, really is cool :o)

Again, another band produces the same mindless drivel that they've patented. Meaningless, as repetitive as last night's kebab and the same rediculous over-praise that this band never deserved. It's identical to what they've always produced and shows no expantion from a band who've as much musical talent as Wayne Rooney slapping his thighs to the match of the day theme. Bland, boring and will be overplayed to death. I can barely wait. Consider this my thank you to radio 1.
this song is awful, wots so good about repeating the same word over and over again??
i thought the first album was poor lyrically but this seems to get worse, listen to some proper music with more than one word in it, poor attempt
I love Ruby! My favourite bit is "Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!" I love singing that bit and I think it should be No1, not Grace Kelly.
