Kings Of Leon - 'On Call'

Post categories:

Fraser McAlpine | 10:49 UK time, Saturday, 17 March 2007

Kings Of LeonIt's all too easy to forget about the KoL and put 'em on the backseat of the indie bandwagon driven by the Arctics, Kaisers, and Franz. Truth be told, they're infinitely better than their British compatriots.

Singer Caleb's Nashville country-boy slur has a romantic twang of urgency to it, more distinctive and aurally pleasing than any lyric ever spat or screamed, and 'On Call' carries on the romantic side of the KoL as unleashed in 'Aha Shake Heartbreak'.

With a throbbing bass throughout, and the pained, almost animal cries of Caleb for his country belle, 'On Call' is sad enough to be the 'Dry Your Eyes' indie heartbreak track of the year, and simplistically wonderful enough to float easily across the fields of Glastonbury. Resist if you will, but these boys are the monarchy of indie, whether you like it or not.
