What Band Am I In?

Evanescence

Fame, she is a fickle beast. And she is no respector of talent either, being far more interested in wafty flim-flam like charisma and chiselled cheekbones than how brilliant you may be at playing your guitar. How shallow. And it's not like the fans are there to make you feel better either, they're even more obsessed with your sexy lead singer or your tormented songwriter or whatever. And here's you, years spent leaking blood down the fingerboard of your 'axe', getting your shred on in front of a full-length mirror. It's enough to make you very very grumpy, and no mistake.

So, fans, here's your chance to really make it up to some of the most un-sung heroes in modern music, and I'm not talking about the people who have to put up with Amy Lee on a day-to-day basis...frankly they knew the risks when they took the job on.

Below is a selection of sidemen in very succesful bands. They're probably all millionaires and stuff (well, with one notable exception). But they're not the key people in their bands as far is the press is concerned, even though each of them is totally essential and by no means expendable AT. ALL.

And they're not all guitarists either, but by the same token, neither are they lead singers. And, without meaning to sound cruel, there's often a good reason for this beyond the fact that they may or may not be able to sing.

Your mission is to name the band and the band member...now, GET TO IT!

Him out of that band with the twins in...No.1: Who's this then? Jack Black's Satanic younger brother? Adam Sandler's role-model for that film Little Nicky? Well whoever he is, he's going to have to do more than smirk if he's expecting anyone to chase him down the street taking pictures.

Them out of that band with the song about Tarzan's missus...No.2: Meanwhile, in the sweaty hippy corner are two men who really should invest in some quality hair products, or some soap. And the weird thing is, their lead singer is a very dapper man indeed, which must mean this scarecrow look is just some kind of childish dirty protest. Tsk!

Him out of that national embarrassment...No.3: Crikey, he's a happy soul, this chap, innee? And I'm not entirely sure why. He fulfils the role in his band that Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy used to in Boyzone, Lee and H used to in Steps, and Kian and Nicky still do in Westlife. The word you're looking for is 'ballast'.

Him out of that band who sell all them records in the 21st Century...No.4: Oi! Speccy! Over HERE! Just cos the cameraman is looking at your singer, and the fans are looking at your singer, and the press people are looking at your singer...it doesn't mean you can drift off and start planning your next chess move. FOCUS PLEASE!

Him out of that indie band who did that song about Spider-Man...No.5: "Yeah, being in one of the biggest bands in the country, touring, meeting the fans, living the dream I've had since I was nine years old? It's a real thrill. I literally could not be more happy. Happy, happy, happy, that's me. Hoo. Rah."

Him out of that band with the monkey video...No.6: Trick one, this. Not an actual band member but a doll of a band member. They had to make the full set of dolls so that fans could have the entire band to play with in their bedrooms, but I bet you any money this is the one which sells the least. Second least at a push...

Him out of that band who got bottled at Reading that time...No.7: Hey, who let this kid in here? And why is he wearing his mother's handbag for a haircut? Do they just let ANYONE be in massive rock bands these days? Whatever happened to STANDARDS, for gawdsake?

Him out of that indie band with the big-head singer and the drummer with the big chin...No.8: And finally...well, this one's a bit different. He's actually the best-looking bloke in his band (depending on your view of their lead singer), but is third most famous due to his singer's ridiculous ego and his drummer's unusual facial density in the chin department. Ah well, some are gonna be easier than others, right?

Think you know them all? Stuck on any of them? Roll your mouse over the pix to find out if you're right or not.

No. 1 : Maybe it's Paul Thomas from Good Charlotte .. though he also looks like the lead singer from Bowling for Soup .. so it's one of those two.
No. 7 : That's Spencer Smith from Panic! at the Disco.

4 looks familiar but I can't recall who he might be
    5 is from Snow Patrol
6 is from Fall Out Boy
7 is from Panic! At The Disco
8 is beginning to look familiar now but I can't get it ...

I'm rubbish with their names though.

[So far, Sarah is winning. But I guess the person who names all eight will be the final victor... - Fraser]

This is the other Rachel again - henceforth to be known as...Rachel 2?...Rachel S? I'll decide soon - there are loads of us aren't there?..and I always seem to posting straight after another one - now if I'd got in first, I could've been Rachel 1!

I'm guessing number 4 from the clue: is he from Linkin Park? I can only work this out from Jamie's comment on the review of 'What I've Done': 'Linkin Park are the biggest selling musical artist of the 21st Century. FACT.'

Just by reading Chartblog, I can sound clued up on things I know nothing about! (...a familiar feeling if you're an English student, writing essays about books you haven't got round to reading!)

    thank you! :D

    1) paul thomas - good charlotte
    2) mickey madden and james valentine - maroon 5
    3) russ spencer - scooch
    4) rob bourdon - linkin park
    5) nathan connolly (im not sure about this one though) - snowpatrol
    6) joe trohman - fall ot boy
    7) spencer smith - panic! at the disco
    8) carl dalemo (this is another not sure) - razorlight

[We have a winner! Although I can't be bothered to check if the Snow Patrol one is right or not. I mean he is IN Snow Patrol, but who cares if that's the one you said or not? - Fraser]
