Joe Lean And The Jing Jang JongNOTE TO SELF: Must try hard not to be influenced by the acres of 'buzz-press' surrounding this band. It only makes you grumpy, and you end up looking for flaws rather than attempting to see the same things that the people who are claiming the band to be God's answer to suffering on earth can see. And especially don't be put off by the name. Sure, you won't be able to order the song in a shop without blushing, but that's not the be all and end all of musical enjoyment, right?

There, you've listened to the song a few times. It's not as underwhelming as you first thought, now is it? Certainly not the kind of thing you'd want to pull apart with tweezers just because the Jing Jang Jongs are another tidied-up post-Doherty bunch of indie scruff-dandys. I mean there's actual pop dynamics at work here, and the lyrics are alright too, so give them a chance, eh?

I mean sure, press reports are claiming the JJJs are the *cough* 'mutant offspring' (so dramatic, press reports) of the Strokes and the Libertines, but that's no reason to automatically throw your hands up in the air and wail frustration to the skies. You LIKE both of those bands. Just because the Pigeon Detectives also sound like that self-same combination and you've yet to warm to their charms doesn't mean anything. It's all about the song, right?

And in this case, shouldn't you come down off your rocksnob-snob high horse and admit that this song is rather good? And if you don't, aren't you just being the kind of reactionary idiot who automatically dislikes Westlife songs just because they're by Westlife? I know...you never liked Westlife either, but at least you gave them a CHANCE, DAMMIT!

So, no matter how tempted you are to make some crack about how the band's combination of big round heads and stick thin bodies makes them look like four lollipops which have been retrieved from the side of the cat basket (and the one with the quiff, who is normal sized and therefore looks like a massive fat knacker next to his skeletal band-chums), just give them a second to establish themselves, yes?

Right, I should start writing this review, really...but OH, WHERE TO START?
