Filo & Peri ft. Eric Lumiere - 'Anthem'

Filo & PeriNow here's a crossover you would have found it tricky to predict, even with a crystal ball full of tarot cards, tea-leaves and chicken bones, on a ouiji board. For some reason, having spent the last three years plundering '80s pop for quality samples, the trance fraternity has turned its attentions to the dusty, sweaty, cowboy concerns of Adult-Oriented Rock. The kind of stuff Jeremy Clarkson would put on while driving up the Grand Canyon in a Hummer, leaving a cloud of environmentalists in his wake, all yelling "you idiot! You can't drive up here! It's for donkeys and tourists only!"

So although it starts like that Numa Numa song (you know, the one the man filmed himself miming along to and sparked ten trillion would-be hilarious YouTube clips of people miming along to other songs in a would-be funny way. Oh yes you do. I bet some of you have made your own clips too. Or you know someone who has made one. You DO don't you! Oh my goodness me! Well, I'm here to tell you...it's not as funny as people think.), the thing that really sets it apart from a million other Eurotrance nightmares is the fact that the chorus comes straight out of Nickelback county - where men are men, and women are also men. Hell, even the fluffy bunny rabbits are kind of mannish.

And if you don't believe me, check these lyrics out...HOOO MAMA!

"This is an anthem for the girl that got away
This is an anthem for the world of yesterday
This is an anthem for the rebel of my youth
This is an anthem for risk of loving you"

That Eric Lumiere, despite having a somewhat girly surname, is a cowboy, right? On a steel horse he rides (and NOT, as my friend Jason once tried to convince me, a STALE horse). He's wanted, and not just for questioning. No, the particular way in which Eric is wanted, is basically dead, yeah? Dead or aliiiiiiive.

And seeing as this is likely to be a hit, and is actually kind of a refreshing new thing, and bearing in mind that the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bryan Adams have already dipped a toe in dancey waters (remember Bryan's song with Chicane? No? You lucky bleeder!) it really is only a matter of time before Chad 'Croaky' Kroeger appears in a silver T-shirt, dressed like a robo-gypsy in silver eyeliner, and trying to appear winsomely pansexual and enormously masculine at the same time.

The future's bright, even if some of the people involved in it may not be.

seems you can mix this song with the bravery's an honest mistake at some point.... anyone tried it yet?
