Foals: "I'd Like To Put Contact Mics On My Brain"
You would think, having been asked to go forth and gather a simple five-question interview about sounds, with Yannis, the lead singer with hot indie newbies Foals for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sound, that it would be fairly straightforward to come back with the goods, right? I mean it should just be a case of putting a call in to the Foals massive, arranging a time, ringing a number, pressing record and having a chat.
Sadly, the 'ringing a number' bit proved troublesome, and then when I finally did get through, the phone line was jiggered, so Yannis was hearing himself echoing back while he talked. Not massively conducive to a wonderful chat experience.
Thankfully we battled on through, and by the end it was almost as if we were friends. Friends who don't know a huge amount about each other, and are a bit socially awkward when they speak, but friends nevertheless...
What I Expected: Everyone has favourite sounds, don't they? The tweeting of the birdies, the chirruping of crickets at dusk, the frosty "caw!" of a crow on a winter morning...
What I Did Not Expect: The difference between a raptor and a velociraptor...a poodle tragedy...punching beef...why noise has to be deafening or totally absent...
