Ida Maria - 'Queen Of The World'
Oh so THAT'S where all the ideas for decent, upbeat, happy indie-type-rock-stuff have been all this time. Ida (pronounced Eeda) had them all along. Although she's clearly keen to get shot of them, as she's jammed them all into this one song...and whacked a bowler hat on, just for extra decoration. Your chances of ignoring her are therefore minimal, so you might as well relax and enjoy the ride.
Like all good rides, this one starts slowly, and with a certain amount of tension. This builds to the winding sound of a water-slide or roller-coaster cranking a car-load of giddy kids up to the top of the ride...creaking, groaning, everything seems a little bit sinister all of a sudden and there's a sudden outbreak of tummy-snakes...
...then there's a slight pause....
...and BOOM! Everything shifts a gear! Suddenly up is down, left is wrong, cold is moist and you're smack-dab in the middle of a higgledy-piggledy party world. It's not a cool party, where suck-faced people throw angular shapes, it's more of a jelly-and-ice-cream party. One where you eat as much as you can, drink a load of squash, jig up and down and then either throw up everywhere or wet your pants.
Whether you think this sounds like an appealing thing to do or not is entirely up to you. And there will be some poor deluded fools who find this song to be entirely lacking in 'The Cool', and therefore pointless and a bit too jaunty. They're not entirely wrong, the chorus is perhaps a little too happy for its own good.
On the other hand, they ARE entirely wrong. Because I said so. Jelly, anyone?
