Scouting For Girls - 'It's Not About You'

Normally at this point in a review, I would be trying to come up with a fresh, interesting way to start things off, to try and lure you, the unsuspecting ChartBloggerer into reading the whole damn thing. It might be something about science, or a theory I have suddenly concocted about music, or just a series of shouted demands, ending with "AND YOU'VE GOT TO READ THE REST OF THIS, OR THE PUPPY GETS IT!". But then, seeing as this is a re-release of the very first Scouting For Girls song, I'm not sure 'fresh' is the right way to go.

Hell, even the title of the song isn't all that fresh. it's just a denial of another song, by McFly. They say it's ALL about you, S4G say not.

This in itself could be quite interesting. To see if you could base a whole career around taking an opposite stance to other, more famous songs, and then writing a song about it.

In fact, here's a brief list of songs I would like to hear, in this vein:

'I Don't Predict A Riot'
'That Is My Name'
'I Don't Like You So Much When You're Naked'
'The Man That Can Be Moved'
'No, YOU Beat It'

However, the songs themselves are going to need to be of equal quality to the songs they're based on, otherwise what's the point?

So really, what we're dealing with here is another Scouting For Girls single, in which they do that stoppy-starty thing they do in all the other Scouting For Girls singles, sing Scouting For Girls lyrics in a very Scouting For Girls kind of way, all set to a perfectly Scouting For Girls melody, but you can't say they're in a rut, or rehashing their old ideas, because this song came out before all their other songs did.

Therefore, if they're not going to make the effort to vary what they do, neither am I. It's a kind of tribute, really...

Two starsDownload: Out now
CD Released: August 4th

PS: It's not just me! Look, says this: "Your life will continue much the same if you have the band in your life, or not, yet the album clearly has some merit. " Yowch!
