James Morrison - 'Please Don't Stop The Rain'
What is it with pop stars and being demanding at the moment? Noisettes don't want us to upset the rhythm, Tinchy and Taio are ordering us to take them back, and now James Morrison - a man who is always very polite and friendly in his dealings with people, hence the "please" - is asking everyone to accept the inclement weather.
I mean, who does he think he is? It's part of the British psyche to moan about the rain, especially when we've had a run of unseasonably warm weather. It probably won't do any good - actually it DEFINITELY won't do any good - to rage against the cruel fates which have conspired to ruin your barbecue. But does that mean it's alright for James Morrison to stick his big nose in?
Fair enough, he probably needs his nose to be that size in order to sing like that - it's a resonating chamber in your head, y'know - but still...
(. It's literal.)
And there's a flaw in his logic in any case. He's making the case that IF there is rain on the way, there's nothing anyone can do about it, so we might as well just let it happen. However, what he says is "please don't stop the rain", which implies that he actively WANTS it to rain. He's doing a rain dance, right now, and asking us to be patient with him.
I mean, if there's an element of choice in the matter, if it's at all possible to stop the rain, what's the harm in stopping it?
It's one thing to suggest we all try to accept the bad things in life as being part of a bigger picture, taking the rough with the smooth and all that. It's quite another to demand that bad things happen, just so you can develop a healthy philosophical attitude about them.
And if that seems unnecessarily pedantic, uh...you have met me before, right?

Actually on hearing the song it is not in the same league as BROKEN STRINGS or YOU MAKE IT REAL. (good pop songs sang well )...... and it doesn't inspire me to review the song...... can someone else do a recession hit review for all the heartfelt gorgeous JAMES MORRISON fans out there ?

It's not as good as Broken Strings (Although I did think that Nelly Furtardo spoilt that song because she's not as powerful a singer)
