Roll Deep ft. Jodie Connor - 'Good Times'
I've had this CD in my bag for weeks: played it too. It's never been the first one into the ChartBlog CD player of a morning, and never the one that gets a couple of repeat plays before moving on to something else, but it does get played, it does get a warm reaction when it comes on, and this is why it has yet to be introduced into the Fruitbowl of Ruin on my desk.
This is no small achievement, and should be treated as the sincere accolade it clearly is.
(You can probably guess what the Fruitbowl of Ruin is for. Currently there's no fruit in it, it would have to be cut into VERY thin slices in order to fit in between all of the CDs. There's a lot of ruinous music around, sadly.)
(. Spaaaaace taaaxxxxxiiiii!)
So, let's see how the Rollers managed to survive under these hostile conditions.
Well the slight DJ Sammy influence is a help. That little snatch of the melody to 'Heaven' in the first line of the chorus acts as a kind of ear-twitcher. Familiar enough to get your attention, not so much of a rip-off that it's annoying. AND there's a bit of a 'Day and Night' thing going on in Jodie's "nine to five, when it's over I can come alive". Plus it's fun. Fun is important.
Of course, there's nothing here which will guarantee it a place in the Desk Drawer Of Keeping, or even the Constantly Updated Playlist Of Nowadays Enjoyment, but that's OK. It's only filing, after all.
By the way, if anyone is considering a career in music and wishes to know how to avoid the Fruitbowl of Ruin, here's a couple of handy hints which may help:
Hint 1: Don't be rubbish.
Hint 2: Don't be boring.
Hint 3: Consider being funny.
Hint 4: Don't try too hard.
Hint 5: Don't slack.
Hint 6: Don't puff yourself up.
Hint 7: Don't put yourself down.
Hint 8: Don't be rubbish.
Hint 9: Or repetitive.
Hint 10: Do be brilliant.
There: music solved. *dusts off hands*

PS: And yes I do mean Sammy and not Bryan Adams, even though he wrote the song and performed it first and everything.

With the climate improving and Summer just around the corner , here comes a song that is aimed at making you dance and feel warm inside .
It's upbeat , boasts a really strong memorable chorus , a sunny production , and a video with enough eye candy to give your pupils an intense sugar rush !
Lyrically and emotionally , it's about as deep as the kiddies pool , in your local swimming baths , but hey , it will get you showing some moves ,in the clubs on a Saturday night , after a couple of red bulls.
This for all the world , sounds a great commercial success , and will be a top 10 single .
Good times ?
Hell yes !

Maybe it's too crap a song to bother.
