Third Lanark, bless, were the club that died of shame.

The departure of from this mortal coil was spectacularly swift, dragged to the grave in 1967, just six years after finishing third in what was the top division in the land in those days.

In fact, in 1961 they even scored 100 goals in a crazy, life-on-the-edge season which had their fans looking like they had just come off the .

They were finally killed off by some scandalous mismanagement, mischief and financial high jinks by the chairman Bill Hiddleston - among others.

Gordon Strachan has become the Dr Frasier Crane of Scottish football. It is only a matter of time before he moves a psychiatrist's couch into his office.

First it was and his spoilt schoolboy strop after he ignored orders from the bridge. On a ship they call that mutiny.

But the action of the Celtic manager was swift and effective. Don't walk the plank, just don't bother collecting two weeks' wages and have a wee sabbatical.

A fond farewell to Love Street

It was an afternoon of tears and cameras; memories triggering the former, the latter to take pictures which in days still to come will set the eyes moist all over again.

They were photographing everything; the pitch, the pylons, the pie stands, the seats, the seagulls, the signs. And the old ground looked pretty as a picture in the winter sunshine.

It was a long and lingering farewell kiss to an encounter that was far from brief. and its loving support embraced one another for 114 years.
