THINGS ARE STACKING UP RIGHT NOW DON'T YOU FIND ?

Chris Evans | 09:00 UK time, Monday, 11 December 2006

HELLO little ones

A bleak and blustery morning indeed and if the weathermen are to be believed, there鈥檚 worse to come, much worse. The next few days, be prepared to snuggle in deep, big telly and book nights, with nice food and early to bed. Sometimes the planet needs a few days to let it鈥檚 hair down. We should make the most of this enforced incarceration and rest up ready for Christmas.

Three things on the agenda today鈥

1. The Show, always the most important thing.

2. I have to decide what I鈥檓 going to cook on Saturday Kitchen this weekend.

3. I鈥檓 off to 10 Downing Street this afternoon to interview the P.M. for his Christmas podcast.

THE SHOW.

This week will be a talk down of last week鈥檚 foray out on the road, which has been hailed something very much worth doing and something we should definitely do again next year. Also, me and the sexec. producer Helen, are meeting up today to discuss what to do to make next week鈥檚 shows, extra special and different, obviously it鈥檚 a big time for kids and the elderly.

SATURDAY KITCHEN.

I said yes to appearing on S.K. because my mum loves the show and we watch it together every Saturday. A friend of mine is what鈥檚 called the 鈥済uest booker鈥 for the programme and when she rang up and asked if I鈥檇 be interested in appearing, it felt ok to say yes. I get asked to go on ten shows a week but hardly ever accept, there has to be a good reason, liking the show and the host are always the two things that swing it for me. The show鈥檚 cool and James Martin seems like a good lad. However, I have said I鈥檇 like to go on there and cook, as opposed to just sitting there like an unsqueezed lemon, so they鈥檝e said yes as long as I have my recipe in for today. It mustn鈥檛 take longer than six minutes to prepare. So big research day today鈥 but not as big as鈥.

TONY B.

I was 鈥榮pooked鈥 last week, it was so exciting. The 鈥渂oys鈥 came round to mine to check me out. I passed the test and we鈥檙e 鈥渁ll go鈥 for a Christmas chat today. So, if I鈥檓 late for the show today it鈥檚 because I鈥檓 still with the P.M.

鈥淥oooooh, get him all of a sudden!鈥 Ha ha.

Thanks to everyone who bought a tree this weekend, some of the guys and girls came down from the hospice to say thanks. It鈥檚 the best feeling in the world.

Have a great day, T- MINUS TEN SHOWS and counting till SANTA hauls his gigantic sack and his huge cuddly ass down our chimneys.

x.

P.S. Tomorrow, A PADDOCK, TO ROLL OR NOT TO ROLL, THAT IS THE QUESTION.

    Good morning bloggers and schloggers,

So another week closer to Christmas and yes as Chris states only 10 shows until Santa :-) I am sure this is going to be a week full of office parties as the festive season gets up a head of steam!

When will the 大象传媒 start playing the festive tunes, I think I need my fix of Slade and co, after all Noddy needs the royalty鈥檚 ;-)

S.K eh! Well now I will have to watch it now, although I have my office party on Friday so I may have to watch it through dark glasses ;-)

Tony B, oh what circles you move in however I am not sure that an audience with TB is as prestigious as it once was. I do not want to get too political but IMO I think his time in office is well and truly up! Have you ever thought of a spell in politics yourself? The RH Christopher Evans MP has a certain ring to it ;-)

Still enough form me for the minuet! Time is tight so I will return later.

Lynn had a message from a psychic a couple of years ago that she would met someone called Daniel, and he would be the big love of her life.

She thinks it is Daniel Craig. Could anyone fix me up with his email / phone number so that I can arrange his destiny?

Morning all especially Chris, friend of the PM!!

Did you watch Richard and Judy on Saturday? Billie Piper said some pretty amazing things about you, even my kids think you must be cool now if she still thinks you're such a great guy!

Two weeks to go and i've got lots of pressies still to get. I went into Norwich on Saturday and it was heaving, I normally love shopping but even I found that a bit stressful.

Kids school plays this week, i will be clutching a tissue throughout. Tried (yet again) to get them a mention on Friday, got through but the helpful (?) chap on the phone didn't seem that keen on the songs I was picking. It seemed if he didn't know them i wasn't getting on the show. No wonder it sometimes seems you play the same five songs every Friday! Anyway, now i've got that off my chest, I promise I'll never try to get on again, i'll stick to the blog as I'm less likely to be rejected!!

Can't wait to watch you on Saturday Kitchen, why don't you do that carbonara you mentioned the other day, that sounded quick and easy.

    Nice agenda! Name dropper you...

I used to have a boss that would say we should all decide the three most important things we could do each day. we should then do them and go home.
Chris - I hereby give you permission to go home when you have done your three things (generous of me, huh?)

So, fellow bloggers, what are the three important things that you have to do today, after which you can go home (if indeed, going home isn't one of them)?

    Mine are:
    1. Prepare my boss for a grilling from the Board.
    2. Reformat my book into an appropriate page size, paragraph formats etc.
    3. Telephone Interview/discussion with Corporate X.

And what are the three dream things you could do if you could pick anything (anything that gets past the BP, anyway!)?

    Mine are:
    1. Host a radio show
    2. Cook a great meal
    3. Interview the PM

Chris, you have a charmed life!

Hi Chris and good morning to all bloggers

After a night in Godalming with friends on Friday, we battened down the hatches on Sun and ate our comfort food: toad in the hole with mashed potato & gravy, washed down with copious amounts of red wine. This was enjoyed whilst watching Brief Encounter (my all time favourite b & w film). Bliss ....... let the weather do its worst!

Saturday Kitchen is a must in our house too so we're looking forward to seeing you do your thang! Can't wait to see what you can do in six minutes (oo-er missus!!!)

James Martin - oh yes please!!

Politics aside, I've always thought that Tony B seems like quite a decent fella and it'll be interesting to hear how you get on and what you think. Quite a coup to get an interview though, methinks - good for you.

Can't wait for 5pm to come round again, and glad you're all back on home soil.

Just checking to say hi and to wish you well for later today. I would love to have a chat with Tony Blair! I'm not into politics at all. Honestly, I have more to do with my life and anyway all the moaning in the world about politicians will change nothing. Doesn't matter who we vote for, there will be something wrong with them! You may want to tell Mr Blair that he is looking YEARS younger since his announcement that he will stand down before the end of his term. Really - take a good look at him, this is a man who is very happy indeed!

Won't be here tomorrow (how I hate missing a day!) but look forward to joining in again on Wednesday.

    Take care guys.

P.S. Mark and Marshie - fascinating stories, you should get them down on paper. I begged my darling dad to write a book - he was the most interesting man (actually UNDERSTOOD Shakespeare!) and he lived a really fascinating life in his early years (before marrying my mother and producing six children!). He never did write that book and now all his knowledge and all his stories have gone with him. (Really, we should all get our life stories on paper and leave them for future generations because everyone has a story to tell).

What a great day you have planned for today Chris. How inspiring - all Monday's should be like that, it would be so much easier to get out of bed and face the wrath of Mother Nature!

I enjoyed what little I got to hear of Drivetime last week - I bet the pub was well and truly rocking that night!

Re: SK - make it something simple and easily accessible, with good quality ingredients please - oh I know, like your mums Chicken Stew!

Regarding a paddock - to roll or not to roll - it would depend on whether you actually like a roll in the straw...

    Hmm - that's a whole other Blog I think!

Quick update on Samminess.... 'Virtual boyfriend' - not sure he's still that, as I spent a weekend with him, has now gone to Africa for some months with work. Won't be back until February :-( Gave up on house stuff and moved in with parents. Surprisingly, I love it - kids are having to share a room though, which isn't too good, but it is only a temporary thing. Surprisingly, even though they do scrap at times, they're also getting on very well - so that's definitely good. Ex-hubby still hasn't contributed in any way - although abusive texts have reduced now that he's found a new family for himself. Also dating a little too (VB and I have made no promises to each other and anyway - what's a meal between friends...)

So that's me really - all change, but much, much calmer and happier!

Hope every one of you is well and happy and that exams/medical stuff has all gone well.

But hubby is working and at the weekend I'll be working again! No weekends off for me between now and Christmas! Aghhhhhh!!!! :-))))
    3. Go to the local carol service with my Godson, his twin brothers and their Mum (my best pal!) All the churches get together with local charities and loadsa people from all round the area get together in the evening and have a candle lit carol procession through the town! With a brass band walking with us! Its lovely, lovely! The kids love it too!!!! After, the local ladies provide mince pies! How good is that! Am going to miss it this year cos of work. Ney mind.

    1. Accountants can SEEM "lovely" but there is usually a sting in the tail (sometimes called a "bill", sometimes called "getting stuck sitting next to them at the Christmas Party and they end up telling you all about IFRS and their collection of beer cans")
    2. NEVER chase an accountant. This happens so rarely (especially by someone of the opposite gender) that they will get over excited.
    3. Keep your delicacies away from the accountants. They are bound to eat them all up very quickly with no word of thanks.
    4. Always remember that the words "cost" and "accountants" should always be used in alphabetical order.
    5. ONLY ever fraternize with accountants who also blog here. Because we only exist in a virtual world, neither of problems 1,2 or 3 will ever occur. Just don't try and meet us in person...

P.S. One for you on a Monday thinking of your drive home ;-)

There's a Motorway and a Dual Carriageway in a really rough pub enjoying a burly pint of cloudy scrumpy to demonstrate just how HARD they are.

The Dual Carriageway is impressing these pretty little A-roads with his central reservation and the Motorway is showing off about his hard shoulder and they're getting on really well.

They are just about to take the A-Roads "back to their place" when a pink piece of tarmac walks in through the door. The Motorway and the Dual Carriageway turn white with fear and they dive for cover beneath the table.

Well, the A-Roads are not impressed at all as you may imagine. The pink tarmac downs a triple vodka and walks out of the bar. The Motorway and Dual Carriageway get out from under the table realising that they've blown it with the A-Roads.

The first A-road asks the Motorway "Why did you go white and dive for cover when that pink piece of tarmac walked in -- you're supposed to be the king of the roads?".

The Motorway replies, "WHY? That guy's a Cycle Path!!"

Only missed the last 20 minutes or so, so was chuffed to hear so much ... with only occasional interuptions from the daughter ... and the cat .... and the husband ... and the lodger ... and the phone!

Have you got your tree up yet, Chris? Methinks the blog is due another photo ... how about one of your tree and decorations? What a shame you couldn't have your bloggers and blogettes post photos of their tree and decorations! Hmmmm ...

I had to go back and re-read your comment .... I thought you were talking to your dog about what it's like to be boss! If your dog is anything like our daughter's cat (or her guinea pig ... or her degu, come to think of it!)... the pets always think they are boss!

Our daughter has just woken up and seen the lights and tree .... 'Oh, wow, Mummy! Wow' I never knew that wee people of only 22 months could be so cute! She's taught us to look at the world in a totally new way! And we have her vocabulary now ... I thought it was the other way round! Now the 4 adults in her home go around saying, 'Not nice!', 'Yis!' 'Nooooo!' You don't really need any more than that!

I like the sound of the questions you asked Mr Blair! Don't have the scoobiest what a podcast is, but going to have to find it when you do it!

Have to go for now ... need to try and get this wee girly back to bed!

If I don't get back to you all, sleep well!

    Love & hugs, Susan

What do you call people who are afraid of Santa Claus? Claustrophobic.

Chris - can't wait to see you on SK. Will have to tape as going to try and start the Christmas shopping this Saturday. I think watching you cook will be real interesting.

Anyone out there give me some tips on how to get into the festive spirit - just can't seem to find it this year. Had our work Christmas lunch on Friday - too early for me really - and too many discussions about how we should divvy up the wine bill - I think someone is trying to work out an algorithm for how much we should pay - you know pre-lunch glass - if yes go to next question, if no go to question 3 - glass with first course - if yes ..... blah, blah, blah. Life's too short as they say.

Maybe once I've got the shopping done I'll feel more like it! But what if I don't? HELP!!!!!!!

    Another day just about over....

Sometimes I think the blog goes over my head... Do a load of you actually know each other? I feel like I know some of you a bit, as I imagine a lot of you do as well. Maybe I should read some more of your own blog sites but I think I'd end up not getting my work done at all.

The show tonight had me totally flummoxed as everything was changed around, though I liked the fact it took me by suprise. I've never been that methodical in my day to day and yet I expect it from other things so I can measure my day... what a dichotomy!

Anyhow I think I'll get off to bed.......

    Merry Christmas to all!!

3 things on my agenda today....

    1. Take my brother to work.
    2. Pick my sister up from school.
    3. Play Christmas Carols for firemen.

All three done and dusted and I got a firemans hat to boot. All that was missing was James Martin cooking the mince pies and it would have been 1 out of three dream things on my agenda. (yummy)

Thanks for a great show Chris.

Madainn mhath, Christophe, and fellow bloggers and blogettes! How are we all this wet and windy morning? Starting to get worried about the weekend ferry sailings now!!! A lot of ferrys were cancelled yesterday .... Andrew keeps telling me there will be nothing to worried about! Hmmm ....

My top 3 agenda today is -

    1) Write Christmas cards
    2) Do the mountain of ironing
    3) Put Charis's bed together

There's more to do, but that would just distress me if I put it all on!

Em M - enjoy the plays! I'll be hopeless once Charis is of an age to do that! Are you allowed to take photos and videos at these things or is that banned now? We had the owner of a very successful baker's firm taking pictures of us in the cafe in town yesterday! He very kindly asked permission beforehand, but why do these things happen on the day that you look like you've been dragged through the hedge backwards and are doing a great impression of a dog's breakfast!? Charis looked cute as always!

moose - how did your aganda go? Did your boss get through the grilling?

jillygoat - what a great way to spend Sunday! I haven't had toad-in-the-hole for ages!

missy - that's a point ... what's the 'girl on the sofa' up to these days, Chris? You got us all interested there and not a peep since!

Tickle in Cork - did you get to London ok? Business or pleasure?

ChrissieS - it isn't til we lose a generation that we realise that we have lost a part of our history as well. I write letters to Charis for her to read when she's older - sometimes it's about everyday things, sometimes it's about her past, my past and her grandparents' past.

Lorna - what fantastic things to look forward to!

Will have to come back to everyone else in a wee while - away for a cuppa and some porridge - anyone else up for that?

    Have a fantastic Tuesday!

    Hugs, Susan

Dr J, thank you for the link. Am going to see the aforementioned society some time this week hopefully, so will do the biz then.

Keith - I'm not quite managing 60-70 hours per week, but I got a rise the other day. It works out to taking home approximately another 拢20 per month, so I fear the new year may be bringing a new broom for me...but I REALLY don't wanna go! All power to you baby!!!!!!!

Weezie - The blog coppers were really laying it on last week. Just got a bit fed up with trying to keep in touch with everyone, and nothing getting through, and for no apparent reason. That's all. Good to have you back though sweetie!

Hazel Love - well done on the rise!

It's a nailbiting week for me & 'im indoors. He's now had three interviews for a job - it's between him and another fella, and the decision is being made this morning. I've now finished my three months' probationary period at work, and assuming they're happy for me to stay on, I'll get another 拢2.5k per year - hurrah!!

Anyway, I'll find out about that tomorrow so meantime we're jumping every time the phone rings!

Happy Tuesday - only 13 sleeps til Xmas!!

Joder! just called you young, but I'm 35 now, so as far as I'm concerned you are young; according to the following reasoning: Every 'Chris Evan's year' is 7 of mine. That's why your portrait is ageing in my attic at this very moment!
Your cooking was v impressive on Sat kitchen. Finally a celeb put their foot down and COOKED, rather than just chatting and chopping.
If you're ever in Torremolinos, we'll make you a paella.

My husband, who is a Prestonian although we live in Bournemouth. We have a booklet from the Lancashire County Council called 'Discover Villages of Lancashire' and the information regarding HOGHTON is as follows:
HOGHTON - This is another parish with long historical associations, most linked with Houghton Tower which was erected between 1562 and 1565 by Thomas de hoghton, replacing an earlier manor house. Its lords have maintained an unbroken line of descent from pre-Norman days, the baronetcy being the second oldest in the kingdom. Legend has it that King James I, when dining there, knighted a fine loin of beef which appeared on the table, and an inn within the parish is now called "The Sirloin" in remembrance of the event.

Good show Chris, keep up the good work. Thought you might like this little snippet.

Can you please tell my parents that I haven't been kidnapped yet to Kath and Bill from Teignmouth I would appreciate it very much. They listen to your show all the time and "gobsmacked" would be the word to describe them if you did.

Kind regards and thanks if you do,
