THREE DAYS AND ...
So here we go. We are literally monents away from...
... the Great British Beer festival, in fact it has just started down the road.
Now I love this event, especially one would think, the week before I get married !
But listen.... oh listen do... guess what ?
I'm not going. I don't want to get ratted and feel like a beaten up old lump of lard come the big day on Saturday. My mates are still going, as is our Nige from the show but I ? No, not this year.
Mind you it is only ten to four and I still have a couple of hours of potential mood swings before my chariot revs up for the drive home.
Three hours from now... uhmmmmm.... yes or no ?
I shall visit the blog for the results of our second ever blog pole just after seven and maybe during the on air period.
CLP 2007.
X.
P.S. yesterday's posts were the funniest we've ever had. Ouch !

OH MY GOD - YES!!!!
That's my vote - the beer festival is just oh so good, so many pints, so little time....
And it's ages between now and your wedding - hours and hours even!!!!
Go and have fun, say I
Love

Come on, come on, one last blow out - has to be done, has to be done, your last ever great British Beer Festival 2007 as a single man . . !
I'm sure the good lady in question would not mind in the slightest, and if youre in the good company of Team Drivetime, then the wheels will be between the hedges.
My little sis gets hitched next Thursday (1st time for her!) , so last weekend coming up for her as well. Last minute preps at the chapel this Sunday, then its all to play for, fast and furious in the ready-money round.
If you're going, lets do the best & most appropriate games for the boy who's about to swap half his heart . .
Christoph - there'll be another Great British Beer Festival next year, but you're only going to get this one day to wed the girl on the sofa .......... methinks you'd rather be feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed on the day!!
I don't know about you, but I've found that since I entered my 40s, my powers of recovery from too much alcohol are much, much slower than when I was in my 20s. Then I could get absolutely ratted on a Saturday night and still make it to the pub for Sunday lunchtime, raring to go all over again! These days I have to plan it all in advance!
jillygoat xx
Now then christophe happy Tuesday and good luck for the up and coming life stretch..just wanna say go for it...just stay for a few then bid your farewells..and tootle off home for a cocoa in your dressing gown and slippers....ORRRR go for it have a whale of a time..enjoy yourself immensly and savour the last week of freedom...oh and by yourself some alka selsa on the way home..in a cab of course...great show live long and fruitfull my freind..
Dave Beermat
You may as well go for it Chris, afterall you've been v good up till now, what's one little blow out. Btw i'm very jealous, I shall be out on my bike this evening trying to keep that competitive edge going.
If you aren't getting married til next Saturday, then I reckon you should do it. A couple of days Detox and you'll be fine.
You'll have a great time, and you'll always remember it as "the last great piss up before I got hitched (again)". Every time you think of real ale, you'll think of getting married, and what a wonderful experience it was.
Whenever there is a Beer festival on, you'll remember this one, and by association remember your lovely wife (to be), and buy her something nice just to say thanks for so many good memories.
It's all good. All the signs are pointing to you going and having a bloody good time.
Go Boy.. Go and Enjoy. You have the permission of the DWNB
DWNB
Chris,
I think you could have a wee beer. Or three. Surely you will be well recovered come Saturday!
Mind you, if you really don't want to go and then you do, you'll be angry with yourself for "giving in". Dilemma or what? Also, you won't be able to drive home, but no doubt you can cadge a lift from someone!
My vote - have a few beers with your mates - it's three days until you get married, definitely something to celebrate!
C xx
Hello Chris
It's like this, the beer festival is fun; yes: woohoo!
But....
How long does it last?
What if you get shedded? ( technical term for drink influenced reduction of rational thought)
What if you meet someone there that you haven't seen for ages and they invite you out afterward? What then?
More beer? Maybe chips with cheese or a kebab? Chinese even?
What if you have a dodgy pint and get the screaming ab-dabs?
What if you wake up where you shouldn't?
If you go: tomorrow you'll feel like piece of pavement Chewing Gum and wish that you hadn't gone.
There'll be another beer festival next year! Pencil it in.....
A wedding is a one off event , it doesn't happen again next year.....
My advice ... ( not that anyone ever takes it but I'm usually right) Open a bottle of red, have a Chinese delivered to your house ( Chicken in Black Bean Sauce, Special Fried Rice and Special Sweet and Sour( or whatever you both like) .. share it with your intended while watching a DVD, then hit the sack... baby....
Tomorrow you'll feel fantastic!

One of the best times of my life...YEARS ago, living in Brighton, and like you, JUST UP THE ROAD from the Great British Beer Festival which was being held at one of the larger local hotels.
It would have been extremely rude not to attend. Which is why I think you should go. It's only Tuesday!
A small tip, getchorself a PINT glass, don't purchase silly amounts of tokens and only buy halves...this way you get to taste a bigger choice of beers, and best of all, you don't spill any! Hoorah! No need to get ratted or even slightly foxed...just aim for that pleasant, fuzzy glow and I reckon you should be ok...
Have a pint of Witches Brew if the Pendle Brewery are there...fond memories...if only I could remember them...
bottoms, as they say, up

I'm sure you can sit out a drinking session just this once.
Oh who am I kidding, get your coat on and call a cab right now!!
You'll have recovered by Satruday if you are good for the rest of the week anyway....
Aaah, our little Christophe Lambie Pie is all growed up!
Good on you for deciding to be 'good', but you know the reward will be FANTASTIC!!!
Clodagh - excellent blogging (as usual), but it put me in mind of when #1 son, Arthur (a cat btw), had to be put to sleep. He was very unwell and it was only a few weeks after I'd had #2 son. I was inconsolable. I sobbed. Every time I thought about him, I felt as though my heart would break.
HL - thanks for the Choosday Pome, made me smile at the thought of Clodagh goosing on Grafton Street! Btw Clodagh - do they still have those people there doing Henna Tattoos? I got one when I went with my friends - my hubby (boo hiss) was not impressed! Sense of humour bypass or what????
Loving you all,
S xx.
Seems I'm the only killjoy on here so far!!
I don't mean to be, and you're obviously hesitant about going, but as you're not getting wed until Saturday, there's no harm in getting a few real ales down you!
jillygoat x
GO FOR IT CHRIS YES YES.
Don't bother getting married it's just more hassle.
Love your show you will change when you married to her indoors.
Have a good night

ps Christophe, glad you liked them!
Cmon Chris....you can almost smell those hops.
Go for it young man!
D
NO WAY!!!! you have far too much fun as it is.
Yes Chris of course you should go
Go on Chris!
I'm going on Thursday and I love the GBBF!
Drink some beer and be happy!
If my wife say, I can't have a drink tonight then the answer has to be no nor can you! On second thoughts if you are to get hitched that soon you deserve a bit of fun GO FOR IT and have one for me!
Christoff,
You can't! You know you shouldn't!
You would feel so rubbish on such a great day. You want to be able to drink champagne with your new bride without wanting to throw it up again after ;)
Come on Chris, do the right thing, there is always next year after all and would your missus forgive you??
I think you should let that conscience tell you what to do ;)
Cat xx
Go for it Chris you know you will have a good time at the festival. If you can make it tomorrow night I will be working on the Scottish bar and will buy you a pint.
Chris
Now listen to me, ah! now turn round look at me...my advice Chris...yes yes yes yes yes yes yes oh boy yes, go!!!
Life is just too flipping short and sure you will have long dried out by Saturday.
Better still take your beloved with you!! I'm sure, if she has been up to her eyes with 101 things to do before the wedding, she could probably do with a good laugh and a few wee swift ones...
Enjoy!
ach, good god man, get the ale necked, the laughs had, the pork pies munched- you can always do what I DIDN'T do last friday and actually stop drinking beer and swap to the um bongos when you're suitably squiffy.
Beer+pies+pop+kebab on the way home= jolly good night without the pulsating liver the next day.
no beer
Go for it Chris. We need someone to report back to those of us that can't make it.
Ok Pro's and Cons..........
1) You made the decision not to go when you were thinking normally and not bowled over by the desire to spend time with friends and get ratted :0)
2) can you go and not get completly pissed? if no how much will that concern you?
3) What did the "Mrs/Intended" think when you mentioned you wouldn't go? how much does that bother you?
4) Will you really feel like a lump of lard on Saturday and how much will it bother you? :0)
My Vote is go if you really want to, have a laugh with your mates and enjoy yourself, but "try" not to get totally ratted because you know that there is a 80/90% chance that you will regret it come Sat (or when you look in the mirror and see the belly has made a overnight return) :)
Hehe, just had a vision of a lump of lard with your head attached........ hahaha
Incidentally, another reason for celebration - your blog is a year old today!! Happy Birthday Blog! Caroline told us this yesterday (on another blog). It's her birthday today too! Happy Birthday Caroline!
So, bring on the beers!
C xx
We are a few days off from Saterday, enough for a detox, it takes 3 days for alcohol to clear the system after a good drink. But, although I`d like to be, I`m not you Christoph and only you know how you will feel a few days after going to the GBBF. I think you feel you`d like to go, but... it`s six of one half a dozen of the other, hence a vote on it.
I would be tempted to go to the GBBF, but take your time drinking those glasses, and limit yourself despite the thirsty weather, and as they say have it all - a nice drink, nice company and a nice wedding too.
I`ve been very good, dry for 12 days now. Never been to a beer festival, one day perhaps. But in this weather I love oh soo cold drinks - all types of juices.
m xxx
Go for it Christoph. You've got enough days before the big one to sort yourself out and years and years ahead to be sensible. Go and have a great time!
JG
xx
Oh do it chris do it! It could be your stag due!!!!!!! And have a drink for me as its my birthday tomorrow!!!!
Yes infact I insist you go for a beer or 3. Astoday is Tuesday and the wedding is Saturday you'll be de-bloated tomorrow
I'm thinking my Invite to the wedding has been lost in the post, did any other bloggers get theirs! hehe!
YES!
treat as a stag night,
Oh Chris !
See what happens when you turn 40 !
Go.
Then return home and give her one
(I mean a sample from the festival for
all of you with your minds in the gutter!).
You don't have to get absolutely blotto,
do you ? (DO you ?). Just don't get the
"kebab and chips munchies" afterwards.
Shove some fruit in yr pocket(s) for
chomping on en route to wherever you
are staying overnight.
You can sweat it out in the sauna & steam
room and vibrate a bit more out using
your PowerPlate.
Enjoy......
(P.S. Early 'have a good one' for the wedding)
Of course you should go and you should ensure you sample Black Sheep's Riggwelter.
C/.
PS Glad you liked the Tell me on a Sunday suggestion yesterday!
You should go!!!!
Oh so tricky.....................
several factors...............
Will the future missus be with you?
Can you manage to limit intake?
Have you got enough cash to do the whole festival on you NOW?
Will the throat last?
Have you got the right gear on or do you have to go home first?
consider all of the above over a beer and then decide!!!!!!!!
amanda
I've decided i'm entitled to vote again seening as I am twice the woman I used to be...yep which is down to all the beer I have guzzled over the years te he!
My vote....wait for it....wait for it....YES
You know the old saying..
"Beer today gone tomorrow!"
Get em in while the getting is good :-)
Yes go - you'll only regret it if you don't - Liz
Chris - I wouldn't.
You've got a really important day coming up and you don't want to be less than 100% for the girl on the sofa now do you???
It'll be on next year too.
Hi Christophe
Are you feeling ok? You are sounding very sensible!
Of course you must go - it wouldnt be you otherwise.
xx
By asking you know you want to go but just hope the blog will back you up.........!
Anyway if you want your intended to appreciate beer take her with you!
I'll have to settle for ma bottle out of the fridge.

Chris
NO QUESTION
You have got to go, My Hubby Marts is down there working for the week. You know its the most Cultural Annual event to take place each year in London. getting married in the very near futeure is no excuse. and next year volunteer a day to work, its fab!
Love the show
RACH XXX
Of course you should go, and will go because you want to go else you wouldn't have posed the question. Why not invite your betrothed to join you? Have fun! x
Chris
It has to be done.
If for no other reason than, as pointed out by Chrissie, it is the blog's birthday.
I'm off for a run now, in what looks like an imminent downpour, but I'll be toasting the blog's big day when I get back.
Go for it and enjoy.
Peace & love
MfR
PS Drive boy dog boy dirty numb angel boy
I know me again! But I'm not voting just thinking!!
Here's a question for your blog and a question for "Beat the Busby"
Blog: Should celebrities bother getting married? In the circles they move in it stands to reason there will come a day when they meet someone even more gorgeous and fabulous and temptation will bite. Us mere mortals usually only move in a circle!!..bed...work...bed...work, the likelyhood of bumping into Kevin Costner is nil :-(
"Beat the Busby": Who has the higher divorce average, Celebs or joe soap public?
Now Chris don't you go getting all offended, I personally think marriage is the only way to go and I hope you have a great day and a great life together..well done you!
Impressed with your strength of mind - your love of your wife-to-be over your love for beer. That's love for you!
You're the business wonderfulous Christopherlous xxxxx
Go for it Chris, my husband goes to a beer festival at a local police sports and social club every year and has a great time.
You'll have plenty of time to recover, we can all post our best hangover remedies for you tomorrow!
For me it's a Big Mac and orange juice.....
Deb x
Go Chris, as my Dad always used to say, this life is not a rehearsal!!
Go for it Dude!!!!!!
Your a long time Dead..
I'm sure your beloved knows you by now.
And if she doesnt, She soon will....
You Dont have to have a skip full, just be polite, and have a taste..
Good luck for the big day.
Trill
sorry to sound like an old fogey, but if you feel you need one last blow out before your married is it really a good idea to get married, as marriage shouldn't change the person you are or else you will be living a lie for how ever many years you end up being married, trust me I no its happened to to very good friends of mine that tried to be something they were not and two unhappy marriages later they left.
Watched the Sea Cat or Sea Dog if you prefer leaving Dover Harbour for France this morning. Why do people on boats wave to people on the shore? It also happens if you go for a ride on a steam train, the passengers wave to the watchers and vice versa! I`m not sure why it happens but it`s a nice thing to do, better than throwing stones!
m xxx
Dear Chris,
Why not just pop in for a couple of pints? You don't have to get ratted, and you're only being sociable!
Paul.
Go for it!!
But only in the interests of research - Then report back on Thirsty Thursday on the best beers, brews, brewers etc. etc.
(You can have a quiet Wednesday to recover from the hangover.....)

Mr chris
You'll have to go! Imagine if you don't, you'll feel like Homer Simpson.
Whoo Oohh! A Beer festival! Mmmm Beeeerrr! Oh no, I've decided not to go......D'OH!

Happy birthday for tomorrow Missy, hope you have a fantastic day. I went into Norwich today and I kept an eye out for you and a certain ginger police officer with a limp but I didn't spot either of you. Got my son's school uniform for high school, I had a lump in my throat!
Chris - only you can make that decision, it depends how much willpower you have. I know if I had way too much to drink on a Tuesday night I'd still look a bit rough by Saturday.
Em xx
CtD, I think we will take you up on your advice and go somewhere else to eat beforehand. Thanks for that. We will made a proper day of it which will be lovely, really looking forward to it. It's a very good friend that I'm going with too, love her to bits x
Martin James, welldone you, be very proud of yourself x
Missy, Happy Birthday for tomorrow x
Clodagh, thank you the message was beautiful and brought a lump to my throat. Milly died in my husband arms before he got her to the car and I'm kind of convincing myself that she knew where she was at the time. I am feeling the loss so much today, sitting in the garden and the grass is still flat and bare where she used to lay etc. I feel so strange with her not being at my feet now as I type this.
Betty has been spoiled so much she is probably confused. Last night we took her and little'un for a walk in the forest and popped into our local (also in the forest) for a quick drink and to get her some water. The guys in there made so much fuss of her, that she was exhausted with it all. Little'un even shared some sausages with her today! But then he got annoyed when she knocked his toy soldiers over.
To be honest I've had a few glasses of wine tonight and am putting off going to bed as I'm dreading tomorrow morning. I can't believe that after that I won't see her again.
Husband and eldest don't think that can cope with seeing her but I will no matter what. We are going to take the boys to an airplane museum which is local to the crem while waiting to bring her home. I thought that would help. I explained to little'un that when we go to get her back the people there would have done some special magic and made Milly so little she will be in a little box for us to keep for ever. He seems ok with that.
Anyway, sorry for going on. Future posts will be more cheerful I hope from now on. Thank you so much for being so kind and for the support.
With much love,
Debbie x
Happy Hump Day Christophe, and I DO hope you are greeting the day with just a tad of a blurry eye, and will be right as ninepence after a bacon sarnie and a pint of builders with three sugars...as I missed the show turtley last eve, however I have it on good authoritay, that you were being swayed in the general direction of the pumps?
So didja go? Didja? Didja?
I had a couple of vin blanc plonks with a dash of lemonade last eve...partly to celebrate ChrissieS' daughters exam results, partly to celebrate Cazzer's birthday, and partly because I have no beer in my house! I could say I had a drink for Missy too, but I'd be fibbing! I may just have to have one today!
...that's as maybe though, well done Martin. Keep it up matey! Your bit about waving...brought back a memory of when my Gran'ma used to take us to a particular paddling pool that was close to a railway line...all us kids used to wave every time a train went by, and the passengers used to wave back! Bonkers really. No change there then...
Anyhoo, I am currently enjoying my second cuppa char, have waved happy birthday to Missy - if you stand on a chair you may be able to see me...and now, shock horror, I have some work to do...

ps Debbie. Today is going to be so tough. I asked Barney to look out for her (he's a cat, but very good natured...) Light a candle for Milly when you bring her back home xx
...and totally apropos of nothing at all...as I alighted the bus this morning, a gentleman, looking to all intents and purposes like an archetypal office worker, shirt, tie, briefcase etc was waiting to get on. He was also wearing a pair of black leather shorts covered in zips. When I mentioned this gentleman to my colleague, he said he may possibly be a news reader...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISSY!!

You're absolutely right. Chimps was a bad analogy but you know what I'm getting at.
And chimps, primates, indeed, are one and the same as ourselves. In fact if you saw what I saw in the mirror this morning after an afternoons' goosing followed by a night in O'Shea's bar you would be hard pushed to spot the chimp from the responsible member of the community that is meself.
You're talking to the woman here who has Buddhist leanings and wouldn't harm a fly, maybe a wasp alright but that's not killing, that's anti-terrorism.
Bless your little soul.
But me knuckles are suitably rapped.
Oops pardon me.

Ah go on Christoffe go for it.
And if you end up ratted and like a beaten up lump of lard so what. As I said. When you're drunk you think you're invisible.
Just equip yourself suitably with plenty milk beforehand and a large tube of Germolene for your return in case you, like me, spend a good half hour tryin' to get your trousers off over your head. Chafe marks are a sore thing indeed.
Chimps away.
By the way, J. I've done it again. Blogged on the wrong page. It's me age. Apology overleaf.

Anyhow rant on
I went into a new supermarket (Posh one) cos it has just openned near me yesterday. I bought various things including some ciabatta bread. There were some vacuum packed ones and they had started to go mouldy. I pointed this out to the checkout lady who very politley asked the manager to go investigate. This snooty middle aged woman returned with a very patronising look on her face and suggested that this may be olive bread. I fumed quietly and left. Then I got so insensed I returned, picked up the mouldy bread and headed for the customer service desk. When I got to speak to the big boss I retold my story presented the bread and asked if it was company policy to respond to helpful feedback by trying to make the customer out to be an ignorant oaf? Needless to say I got a nice bottle (a really nice once) of wine and an apology.

I thought that now the schools were off my 43 mile each way daily commute would take me half the normal time.
Nope.
They are now digging up every blimmin' road that I have available, including my route out of the Kentish town where I work for the third time in as many weeks! What happened there? Did someone leave their lunchbox in the hole when they filled it in?
And don't get me started on motorways.
Why don't they build a 10 foot high fence on the central reservation to stop rubberneckers? If you can't see the problems on the opposite carriageway, you don't need to slow down for a ghoulish look. Easy.
Also, one lane should be allocated to 'nervous and incompetent drivers'. It could be padded on both sides for those who choose to weave around all over the place and if you want to sit at a constant 41 mph, feel free.
I'm really looking forward to my journey home tonight. Not.
Peace & love

Oh MfR can I join in your rant please. I can't STAND people who sit in the middle lane of motorways. Why do they do that... If everyone used the motorway like they were supposed to it would all flow so much quicker and smoothly.
In France it is illegal to not pull in if you can - please can we have the same law here?
Sun's gone in too...
jx
Chris, do it!! We dined out for years on our stories from the Beer festival - that'd be going back 12 years now, but we still giggle about it now. You won't feel too rough anyway, cos its that good fun boozing that brings new in jokes and gives you a spring in your step the next day. You're going to have a fantastic day on Saturday anyway and you'll both look and feel gorgeous cos thats how it is for the couple on their wedding day. Sharing all the love irons out any rough edges!!
Don't regret something you didn't do!!!
You HAVE to go Christoff unless the old hops make you suffer from a bit of "Brewers Droop". If that's the case you could resort to a bit of scaffolding or Viagra.
This could be your "dress rehearsal" for the wedding night.

The Great British Beer Festival was well just Great !.
I was very impressed with the scottish bar, well we all know the scots make great whiskey but they also make some very good beers from places like Isle of Arran, and Perthshire
Dr Feelgood appeared and Gordon Giltrap the guitarist, nice to have a tune to help the beer down
Perhaps you can visit next year,do the show from there,if you can keep your team away from the bars!
