SO WHAT LINE ARE YOU IN THEN ?

Chris Evans | 14:58 UK time, Thursday, 2 October 2008

Went to a very posh dinner party last night. Well when I say posh it was more...

...high powered than posh but it was a bit posh as well.

The great and the good all, or at least some of them, gathered around the same table for a night of power broking. It's a regular dinner, in the old fashioned style, where one particular character or characters invite like minded people to get together and see what happens.

I never know who's going to be there but it's always interesting.

Sat to my left last night was a lady who has recently been involved in a very much written about business coup, to her left was a newspaper editor, next to him was a lady who used to be no more than a breath away from one of our ex PM's every move, to my right was an honest to goodness GP, to her right was the former boss of a multi-national media conglom, next to her was the CEO of one of our big retail outlets...you get the picture.

From the off, conversation was rife and rapid, sharp minds busy at work dissecting everything that's spinning our world at the moment.

Sat directly opposite was a gentleman who was so switched on, he seemed to know something about every topic that came up. He wasn't a know all, he was just dead clever.

I would have guessed he was in politics, an adviser or something like that but I was wrong, not for the first time. It turned out he was a movie producer.

"Really ? Do you mind if I ask which ones for example.

Just all eight Harry Potter films !

Turns out his secretary got an early copy of the first book, took it home for the weekend, came in the office Monday morning and told him about the tale of a young boy that goes to wizard school. He bought the rights and that, as they say, was that.

The food was good too.

Well, seeings as we're sharing ..

I went to my local pub in Belfast and slagged off the owner who just happens to be Christine Bleakley's (The One Show)boyfriend - she was going on and on about one of the fit dancers on Strictly the other night, not realising that cameras may have been recording . . .no offence taken . . .phew!!

By the way - her boyfriend is a mate, a lovely bloke called Mark and is a gentleman.

Well, CLP, nice one for being invited to dinner in such company! Me, I don't think I'd enjoy it. See, I don't watch the news all the time and I don't always know what's going on. Or why. And all the ins and outs are just beyond me sometimes. So I'd just be sitting there, feeling a bit thick hehe.

Bet you had lots to contribute though, eh??

    AF x

ps Scoob, can I come to your next one, sounds like more my kinda thing ;-)

  • Comment number 17.

Wish I had been there - sounds really good although with power type parties there is always one person who can take over and send everyone else outside!
Don't do dinner parties any more - got rid of hangers on so no one left now!!
Can I come to your next one Scoob - that sounds just the ticket! Suit me down to the ground - or table - whichever I drop on first!
Can't think of an ARF at mo - will dwell and come back later. Got to be baby or wedding related - or money of course!

Tinsel - pickled egg in a packet of cheese and onion crisps - chomped side by side -heaven!

Hi Chris, nice party? I'm having 2 families over for Sunday lunch this week as we were given a very large leg of lamb which our small family couldn't manage ourselves (particularly as I am a veggie). We thought we'd share our goos fortune and have some good company at the same time. Pecan Pie for dessert yummy!

fistral08, yep stick your suggestion right here my dear.

CLP that dinner party sounds like such hard work, wasn't it a bit intense?

Guys thanks for all the positive comments regarding the interview. At least he has met me, so if I don't get this one he said he will consider me for something else.

Tinsel, he said that he would give me a ring early next week.

Bingo, so funny again. He didn't seem very parasitic though ;-)

LM has been on top form this afternoon.

First thing he said when I picked him up was 'Mummy why do you look pretty today?'

Driving back from school, he said 'Mummy the clouds look like shapes, that one looks like bum cheeks' (!?)

    Bless him eh?

    Back soon.

Hi Chris, it's amazing how forward thinking some people can be isn't it, that they can spot something brilliant at such an early stage.

Just a thought for your first song tomorrow connected to your blog, how about Eat the Rich by Motorhead. It'll certainly be a rocking tune to start the show and wake people up. If you think it's a good idea, could you please dedicate it to my wife, who's next to me in bed thinking up a dinner party menu, woo hoo.

I am now in relationship which has been 4 years of toughness and fun! But we have both worked hard so should be worth it. Never met anyone before that I wanted to try so hard with so maybe that's the difference.

Tinsel and Dreamer, enjoy your Thursday wine club! Family duties beckon here I'm afraid, though glass is plied anyway! Love your thing about the blurb Dreamer! You love current affairs, scuba diving, pot-holing, you do meals on wheels and am-dram. You design and sew up your own clothes. Obviously you are a team player while being highly independent; you are always ready to listen but never too frightened to talk, and of course you have that absolute must - a sense of humour.

    I remember all that!

Good luck, and good night all.

    Bono Noches one and all

Oh I wish I was a Wizard. My first trick would to be to make Airport Securtiy Staff and Ryanair air appointed check in staff vanish.

Firstly what is the point of taking bottles off passengers over 100ML. My unexpected trip to Majorca saw one of these little job's worth's snatching my bottle of Bergasol. I had declared in my little plastic bag but not realised was over 100ML. He seemed to take great delight in dropping my £8.00 worth and other Terrorist looking passengers on a trip to Majorca shampoo and hand cream in to a bin.
Ok, so now I feel the public should know that the xray machine cannot pick up plastic bottles so put as much as you want in your hand luggage.

    As for Ryanair Highwaymen.

Tried to catch up but so many entries but Hey TTT don't have a go at Steve Wright right.

PP - security staff - had 2 very very bad experience. one at Stanstead - at the time you were allowed very little and I had my jar of Kiels lip balm, very precious, and got taken off me with much delight. And had terrible weekend, travelling due to family illness, so I just burst into tears!!! but got abs no sympathy, like I was some mad Kamikaze (no idea of spelling!!) then at mad american airport got told by huge huge security guard to take off every item of jewellery-(and I don't wear lots of the stuff!) so I forgot my silver ring. Went back through and bleeped (I always bleep!) and he came over shouting in my face, put the ring in a pot then he dropped it....so ended up with around 6 security searching on hands and knees holding up massive queue for very cheap ring which I of course was not about to leave without......ha security....

    Phew. Sorry for late rant,

Now it's token security they employ anybody for about £7 quid and hour and thank heavens for real police in the airport within the hidden camera's.

    right off.

Why did I end up doing Kareoke singing My way the other night I have no idea.

Sorry but Mr Wright and his big show posse must be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Mark Radcliffe is the future of afternoon radio.

Steve Wright is Radio 2 for me.

Where he broadcasts I will follow. That's how I got into R2 in the first place.

I think Mark Ratcliff is good too though.

To many good people out there.

    Isn't You Tube fab though.

    **FRIDAY'S OPENING SONG**

    Hey Chris

Can you please play Queen's 'I WAS BORN TO LOVE YOU' as it would get the weekend off to a great start!

Next week I'm going to see Queen with Paul Rodgers at Glasgow and I'm looking forward to it!!!!

    Cheers Chris!

I have to agree with you people that Mark Radcliffe is doing a great job in the afternoons and is a breath of fresh air compared to the now 'boring' Steve Wright and his posse!

Let Steve do his Sunday love songs show where he plays the same songs week in and week out, in a different order!!!

KEEP MARK RADCLIFFE FOR THE WEEKDAY AFTERNOONS!!!!!!!

Raddcliffe wont do afternoons on a perm basis. He can't play the music he likes. He's good in the evenings with Stuart though.

    Steve :-D

    Hellllloooooooooooooooooooooo

Well you lot were certainly cery busy last night! Great catch-up reading with my pain-ai-chocolat this morn. Cheers!

Well, what can I say ... last night was fantastico! Those guys work really hard to re-create the Rat Pack and don't disappoint. Think that maybe I was born too late (cue for a song ...?). The glitz, the glamour, the sparkly dresses, the elbow-high gloves .... love it, love it, love it!

Shucks! Those rebels even smoked on stage - whatever next!?!?!

Got home about 11 so a little tired this morning - although Mr Diva was still out the door at half five for starting work at 6. The loon!

Hey Steve - we chose the same ARF toons - what're the chances, eh?

May sneak behind SNS's parapit this morning for a nap .... wonder if he's on FB? Talking of which .....

    Laters!

Been bingoed! Did a bitty about Niamh and a huge thanks to y'all and it went *pouf* into the ether!

ARF - has to be Boyzone's new one, which Ken Bruce was playing in the op theatre as Niamh was hauled into this world! Not sure if it was Ken Bruce or Boyzone she screamed at!!

Thanks again, CLP, CtD et al! We will be listening tonight on hospital radio!
