Come On England - Pur-lease Now

Chris Evans | 12:20 UK time, Friday, 18 June 2010

The boys are ready, and I know it's not really important in the grand scheme of things, but it would be wonderful if we did the business in S.A...and then marched on to the final.

As I have said several times on the wireless, we don't have to win, we just need to get down to the last two and then we can all have a party - even if it's an anti-World Cup final party (morning Scotland)!

Who cares as long as the whole nation gets together for a big summer 2010 knees up.

You know, I think we should have a national day anyway. Bring that in please Mr C.

UK day: where we all celebrate being here and now.

Vuvuzela !!!

    Afternoon All,

Hooray it's Friday. Come on England!

Deev, Glad you had a good time last night, and it's good to read the happiness in your blogs - hooray for you ;) xx

Baggy, You either live to work or work to live - you decide xx

Debs, Have a good weekend with your mate xx Hope the foots on the mend.

Me, I'm off to my brothers for the weekend, it's my nephews birthdays so a fun filled weekend of teenage boys is on the cards (is it Sunday evening yet?) I've got an 80th birthday party to attend on the way back from Derby, so from one extreme to another.

I've booked my tickets to Zimbabwe this morning, so on September 10th I fly out and don't return until October the 9th - eek! Pretty scared right now, but it's going to be great and a life changing experience.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Morning Chris from an exiled Scot living in Lincolnshire and who has said previously on this blog that she's unable to support the only home nation in the World Cup - sorry :( BUT I can go with the party thing and the national day's holiday. My youngest GB's school is showing the England match on Wednesday and they've been invited to wear their England kit - poor wee soul - he doesn't own one and doesn't even own anything remotely like it. He may have to wear his Celtic kit. Just had a thought, I hope Celtic doesn't have any Slovenian players in the team.

Vuvuzela - oooooh I love that word.

Well done booking the tickets. I am sure you will be brilliant and have a great time. You can then come back and make us all jealous of the great time you had and how much good you have done.

We need more people like you who are prepared to put themselves out to help others IMHO.

  • Comment number 6.

Ali - Sounds like an action packed weekend for you. I think the 80th birthday party will be the right antidote to the teenager's party. Good luck on your Zimbabwe excursion, it'll be here before you know it.

    Afternoon All,

Shakespeare was indeed excellent last night - best one I have been to in the last 15 years in fact!
WCW - No, I do not feel at all sorry for the French!
Chris - What's the point in getting to the final if we don't win - come on man, I thought you were competitive!
Vuvuzela - Great word - awful sound - can't hear the crowd, which is, after all, an integral part of the World Cup experience.

    Good Afternoon CLP & All.

    Vuvuzela to you too CLP!

I'm not interested in football but when England start reaching the quarter finals then I'm on the edge of my seat shouting at the TV.

I'm all for a UK celebration day. Maybe celebrating the fact we're all still going strong despite the governments.

I did plan to go along the prom on my scooter today but now decided against it as it's getting cooler and cloudier as the day goes on. Will sit in the garden with the cats, birds and squirrels instead.

    Bye for now.

    MM x

PS Hope I don't get removed for impersonating myself here but I have done so all my life?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Comment number 13.

    Afternoon ,

Its raining and rather chilly in Cheshire today.
CLP , loving the idea of a National Day , have a word please !

Baggy, sorry you are having a tough time, follow Deev's advice and ask for help, otherwise it may make you poorly, and no matter how much you love your job, its not worth ruining your health.

Clodagh, I am sorry , but i have checked my calendar and my boss is away that week. Drat, I would have loved a day at the horses.

Right, off to sort out a nasty letter from HMRC , why do they have to arrive on a Friday and spoil the afternoon CBA'dness.

    Happy weekends folks,

We are pleased to say the Chris Evans ginger tea is now available in aid of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Children in Need. Thank you Chris for letting us do this.

  • Comment number 22.

    They did indeed Gaily.

Now then, I have a poser - I usually go to ELH straight from work on a Friday, do you think that it will be busier than usual given that there may be some people there who normally shop between 7.30 and 9.30 who may be wanting to watch TV (there is something special on but I can't for the life of me remember what it is ;-P) or do you think I should risk it anyway so that I can get it over and done with? The alternative would be to go tomorrow morning which is not one of my favourite times to shop...

    mtd ffb xxx

  • Comment number 23.

Baggy - no worries, just glad to help as required.

Hels - Well done again, on such a great idea for CiN, i know its been a hard few months for you but glad this has finally reached the boil.

(did you like that, teas / boil) why do I bother!

    A ;)

  • Comment number 24.

mtd - depends how the mood takes you. Mad dash round with your head down could get it out of the way OR I reckon the shop will be clear by about 7. Good luck whatever you decide.

    Hee hee - poor Germany!

  • Comment number 25.

I think you're right Steffi - get it out of the way and then it's done and I can relax in front of the TV myself.

I agree on the litle tee hee there as well (especially as I currently work for a German company) but I'm keeping quiet until after we win tonight.

You can't be that far away from me if you are down the road from Silverstone.

    Greetings CLP and lovely bloggers!

Once again, I have to apologise for my absinthe. Would you credit it - 2 days before I was due to leave my job, the powers that be decided to block the blog so that was 2 days where I couldn't join you. Then, away at the weekend with no internet and then this week has been a riot of calling recruiters, interviews and the like. End result? I have a job!! Can't believe it was so quick! Hope to start next week - 9 month contract so that will see me right until next spring. AND - the commute is only 30 minutes! Triple hurrah!

I have done some lurking via the phone so am sort of up to speed (I think). Big big hugs to those who have had losses - my thoughts were with you. AF - I sent special virtual hugs to you as I lost my Dad at the same time of year 16 years ago so I really felt for you.

Mods - can we have Bingo back please? I am sure he has sat in the naughty corner long enough and will be a good boy now.

Baggy - chin up, don't be afraid to flag the issues and ask for help - that's what the senior guys are there for. They certainly aren't there to allow you to fail. Listen to Auntie Deevs - her words were wise.

Everyone else - hugs and kisses.

BTW, what is with this weather? Bet it turns glorious as I start work!!!

Chris, re your blog comment about an "anti-World Cup final party (morning Scotland)"... listening to Jeremy Vine at lunchtime I heard some Welsh people saying they don't support England, so it's not just the Scots who got tired of hearing about 1966!!!!!!

Susan, you are right there, it is scary. I really thought I had ba**sed up my interview yesterday. I didn't ask half the questions I had prepared, came home and immediately started another round of job searches! I was absolutely stunned when they rang this morning and offered me a position. So to anyone still looking, I would say DON'T give up, there really IS something out there if you are patient.

I am looking after tiny tots for the weekend as it's their mummy and daddy's first wedding anniversary tomorrow. Not to sure about night feeds, haven't done those for a few years now.

Gaily, loved your post about Bernie being house trained.

Pip, enjoy your weekend in London.

Debs, have a great weekend with your friend. Hope your foot is getting better.

Miss P, Susan and Lin, congratulations on your new jobs.

Steffi, hope your pre-hol shopping trip goes well.

Miss P, Lin and Susan - congratulations on the new jobs.

CSN - good luck with the babysitting - I'm sure you'll have fun (and if I were you I'd plan a lie in for the day after you hand the wee ones back). Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Steffi - I hope you're Mum's on the mend and feeling better so you can all have a lovely time together. Good luck with the shopping tomorrow.

MTD - I'm wondering how you got on at ELH (don't know what the letters stand for - can you tell me on FB if you can't tell me on here?) I took the GBs to the dentist after school and Lincoln was near enough gridlocked, not helped with the railway line going through town. I hope you're shopping trip was stress-free.

Baggy, Auntie Deevs was giving out some very good advice there, hope you've left everything to do with work locked away to give yourself a chance to take stock

    Hi folks!

Well done to the folk with new jobs! Excellent news!

CSN, rather you than me, I hate being woken up at night as I can never get back to sleep! But as Seza says, I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated!

Baggy, I hope you listened to Deev, we've all been in jobs where it's tough, but it really isn't worth ruining your health for!

Gaily, thanks for your kind words last night, I took some time out to look at some maps etc, and have got the journey down to 20 miles, and another local friend reckons it probably won't take as long as I think. However, given that we are moving in the summer holidays, I guess I won't truly know the full timescale until mid September/October when everyone is back at school/work!

Also MC, thanks for all yours and Mr MC's help last night with the route planning! x

Now, about this footie match...hmmph! I can't watch it live, as Mr JG's working until about 8pm, unless I get a text from him to say he's given in to temptation and started listening on the radio!

So, I'll have to love you and leave you all at kick-off time, and shut down the PC, or I'll be tempted to look too! Time to read more of CLP's book methinks!

No FNWC for me until I've managed to watch it, and I REALLY hope the neighbours don't cheer too loudly whilst I sat here waiting! No actually I do, cos I'll know it's going well then!! LOL

Hello the best Friday Night Wine Club to be found in the Northern Hemisphere -

I'm here. I started getting a bit edgy at 6.30 when the coverage started. Now I'm really rather nervous. Decided to stay in my WCupWatching place tonight, then go and join friends in pub just afterwards. I get a better view here.

My other half has just popped out to the local supermarket to get me some more wine and snackeRooneys [see what I did there...?] so's that I am well supported - he is an absolute 'ledge'- to coin a contemporary phrase -especially as he's not really into footie.

    Thanks for having me.

Just popped in for a quick squizz before I vacuum the stairs and landing. Drink poured and tested - mmmmm yum. Will be back shortly. Save me a space on the settee, just wherever's there a space will be fine.

Rightio, floors mopped and vacuumed accordingly and, with a hint of sadness, eldest GB's school uniform picked up from his bedroom floor and popped into the washing machine for the last time :(

Seza - the clothes situation sounds about right. I'm glad he had a lovely time. It wouldn't be the gorgeous Aled you're going to see is it? I hope he notices your pretty shoesies.

Footie watchers - what's the score? Is it still on or is it all over?

CSN - it was my favourite programme and I was allowed to stay up late to watch it on a Saturday evening. I wonder what happened to Ruby. Aw bless her.

    Hello CLP and all.

Checking in for a swift half at FNWC...

What are you all watching? I’ve watching the paint dry here but it's getting better!

Had a work friend staying last night – so was forced to clean the flat from top to bottom. We had a great night out with my Mum and later at home with the boys - completely knackered now – so an early night for me.

I do have a real quandary though – eldest is off to New York next Friday for his birthday and I’m off to France for Step Father’s birthday celebrations (we didn’t think he’d make this one after being so ill, so it is very special). That leaves youngest home alone! Now, he’s nearly 20 and his ability to look after himself is not the problem...

... did I hear someone mention a trip to the races? Yes please, can’t think of a better day out...

    Love to all...

Seza - definitely - I have experienced the same - I was amazed how great the flat looked - kept wondering why it didn't feel right - then I noticed the hole in the wall...
