No Smoking Except If The Script Requires It.

Chris Evans | 11:50 UK time, Thursday, 12 May 2011

It's 11.15 a.m. on Thursday morning, and I have just smoked nearly the whole of a rather substantial cigar. I am not proud of the fact, and the taste I am currently experiencing in my mouth is not one I am enjoying - even remotely. I have just filmed a tribute message to an old boss of mine and the cigar was a prop.

The joke wouldn't have worked as well unless the cigar was actually lit, and seeing as he was a stickler for funny being as funny as possible, it would have been inappropriate of me to not go the whole hog whilst thanking him for the help, friendship and advice he has afforded me in my career.

Just off to shower before Mrs E smells me, and begins to worry I may have begun to lose the plot (again)!

Smiles and smiles of thanks for keeping on listening. Great news about the figures today. Hats off to the team and let's keep on rocking.

Well really Chris! I'm hoping it was a hand-rolled, very expensive Cuban cigar .....!?!?!

I'm thinking a bit of Golden Earring's RAJAR LOVE is due on Friday's show?

CLP - above and beyond - but BLEUGH!!!

Fab news about the figures - but hey us loyal bloggers were never in doubt :-)

Hello ladies and anyone else who snooks in behind my back - in Kingston at mo, off to the real "smoke" this arvo for a seminar on data security - riveting, but then after, front row seat in the Grand Circle for a repeat of love never dies - Huzzah! AND I can have a cheeky pre-theatre dins and glass of vino and claim the cost back - double huzzah!!

Enjoy the show Debs. I remember when I went to see Spamalot - I ordered 4 x GTs (2 for pre-show, and 2 for interval - NOT all for me!) and the theatre bar wanted £24. I said I could have bought a bottle of BombaySaff for that!!

    No news yet .....

    Hi everyone:

Hiya Cheryl: what news are you expecting? Don't like it when I miss something!

Pen: well done to GD1 in getting those figures increased!

Debs: enjoy the show, dinner and vino - I really do wish it was me doing this!

    From the previous blog:

Maddy: so sorry to see that you were back in hospital - awful for you. Yes, please promise that you will be a patient patient, ok?!

Susan: nice to see you on the blog last night.

MTF: I wasn't aware you had been unwell - I must have missed that. Hope you are feeling better now. xx

    Hope everyone is ok.

Chjrissie - I had a 2nd interview late yesterday pm. I'm trying not to build my hopes up but I think it went rather well. Deb gave me some interview advice yesterday which really helped. I gave it my best shot, so now it's just a case of waiting.

    And if I didn't get it .....

My nutrition diploma is going really well - I found out this morning that I passed Assignment 4!

Debs, Sounds like a fab evening. I'm going to a Music Hall! (don't ask!) Think I'd much rather be with you

I've just booked a school trip for the boys to go to a workshop at Pineapple Studios then on to see We Will Rock You! I have asked if they need any parent helpers but apparently there are plenty of staff volunteers!

    Hi Chrissie, hope you're ok?

Penny I thought it was raining here just now but I think it's stopped! I would really quite like a shower or two soon if that's ok - everything here is looking very brown already!

    Hello CE & Everyone.

Oh! No no no no no no no no no and no again! Do not smoke Chris! Having said that there is nothing at all wrong with the odd cigar which my brother enjoys but it's good that you don't like the taste. I personally now can't stand the thought of constantly filling up the lungs with smoke and feel that I must have been quite mad to do this previously but we do these things.

My care package didn't turn up (what a surprise) and Bingo has been chasing them up, the situation now is that someone will call in this afternoon. I'm managing to cope but am very weak and breathless and need just that bit of help otherwise I could have another setback.

Good news about the figures CE.

And good news about my figure, I need to put on a bit of weight hurrah! But I've developed a chocolate allergy, as soon as the chocolate touches my throat I sneeze, cough and eyes stream, this happened at Easter of all times and I've still got some lovely Easter eggs, maybe it's only temporary.

I'm now in danger of turning into a grumpy old woman because of these automated phone calls I'm getting when I'm expecting important calls. I hope I don't swear at one of the important callers!

Off to eat some fattening snacks!

Maddy - you're probably safer "bulking out" on complex carbs like pasta/rice/potatoes as opposed to sugary/fatty stuff.

Glad to hear you sounding so upbeat - long may it continue.

Sezza, didn't think I would say this, but we could really do with some significant rain here as well. It's unheard of that we have to water the plants each evening, in May!

Maddy, take care and I hope you start to feel better real soon xx

  • Comment number 18.

    Thanks Deevs & Pen.

tI've got ingredients in for pasta and rice dishes and I enjoy them too but tonight it will definitely be eggs (poached or omelette) which I haven't had in hospital, they do an omelette which doesn't taste like omelette.

If there's one thing I've learnt over the past fedw weeks it's to be patient as there's no choice, I'm now much more laid back.

    Good Afternoon One and All,

Many Congratulations Chris on the 9.2 million, wow that is a lot of people and I count myself very fortunate to be one of them and long may it continue. As for smoking a cigar, well if needs must - I quite like the smell though.

MM, Sorry that you've been poorly sick again, take good care of yourself and I hope you get the help you need soon. I am more than willing to help out with the Easter Eggs :) xx

Annie, I will email you a copy of my Zim Log, thank you xx

Deev, Well done on Assignment 4, you are whizzing through them, if you ever want to use me as a Guinea Pig I would be more than happy xx

I've been right busy down at the church this morning, there were a lot of things that I had to do in my allotted 4 hours and I did them all - hooray. Not least of all the paperwork to hand out on Sunday for next weeks Church AGM. I am now at my second job of the day for a rest...lol.

Good afternoon everyone from a windy, wet and cool Ayrshire.

Very well done Chris and team on those figures, that is brilliant.

    Deev - Good luck.

MM - Sorry to hear you are poorly again, get well soon.

David and I had a good day yesterday, we went into Glasgow and did the open top sightseeing bus tour, it was very interesting, we had done it in Leeds, York and Chester, so decided to do one in Glasgow too, and our next one to do is Edinburgh. After that we went for a lovely meal with my Mum and Dad at Scholars, which is a restaurant inside the University, where the students do all the cooking, serving etc., it was lovely, and the 4 of us had 3 courses each, a bottle of wine and the bill was £42.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Maddy: it's great to see you here again, and you are sounding really good. xx Just take it nice easy ... which you must fed up hearing!

Pen: when you have time, try to read the story on 500 words "Flowers" it is just lovely and sums up what you are saying!

AliB: you are a very busy girl! You won't forget me on your email list will you?!

Gail: I just love these bus tours. However, don't make the mistake we made in Edinburgh. I can't remember how much it cost - £10 per head, something like that. Me, my sister and my brother. On we get - arrived at Greyfriar's Bobby and we got off because my brother wanted to look at the churchyard (which is beautiful). Well, then, we had to have lunch in the pub. After that, thoughts of the bus tour were abandoned. We jumped in a taxi back to Waverley Station which cost us £3. We could have done what we wanted to for six quid instead of thirty!

Chrissie, just read it, simply wonderful! I have been wending my way through, but hadn't got quite that far. I'm just glad I'm not on the judging panel, what a task they have. The stories are all fantastic. Well done to all of them, they are all winners in my book.

We did an open top bus tour of Windsor and Eton, absolutely loved it. Like the sound of your de-tour as well!!

Pen: I always repeat myself, miss out words, etc. No worries! Glad you liked the story - I have read them all, except "Spider". Will someone please tell me what that is about? It may have nothing to do with a spider, but I can't take the chance! As you say, the judging panel have a very difficult choice to make - how they will whittle this lot down to 5 stories, I have no idea! I would love to do the bus tour of Windsor ... wonder where the nearest pub would be?!

Congratulations ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 2 Chris Evans Breakfast Show on the recent listeners triumphant triumph.
Hi blog land, I am applying for a vacancy at a charitable organisation, will the following profile, along with the usual CV, bag it for me! What do you reckon? Constructive criticism is welcome.
My name is Rebecca. I live in .......... I have one child and a University Degree, which, was the only thing I left my home town for, temporarily for one year. I have holidayed abroad, but, was always glad to return home.
In the past twelve years I have washed over five hundred thousand pots, picked up over thirteen thousand pairs of socks, and walked, in and out of the house, to hang out the washing seventeen thousand times.
I have written over 8 million words in letters, e-mails, journals, diaries, poetry and elsewise. Answered the phone thirty five thousand times, and made over double the same phone calls. I have printed 5,000 photocopies, and filed the same amount of paperwork.
I have recycled two thousand tons of paper, three tons of plastic and eight ton of cardboard. Sorting and transported four ton of clothing to charity banks. Some paper, plastics and cardboard have been held back to make sculptures, flying machines, bird feeders, designer dresses, including a prototype wedding dress for the recent Royal Wedding.
I have spoken to over nineteen thousand people and listened to triple the same amount. Alongside hearing thousands of birds talk and lots of machinery in working progress. Occasionally I learn and sing a song of my own.
I have read three thousand and fifty five bedtime stories. I laugh more than once a day. I have read billions of words throughout my lifetime and saved a few worms from drying up on the pavement.
The grandest figure I can quote so far, has to be the tea-making, trillions and trillions, it seems like!!!!, and lots of sympathy, along with the biscuits.
    Well?

David and I are going to Lauder in the caravan, we are leaving as soon as I get in from work (1.30pm) and will be back on Sunday afternoon. The reason we picked Lauder is that we are going to see another dog, this one is in the SSPCA kennels at the borders, it's the same place we got Glaid, so here's hoping this one will be ok, any excuse to get away.

Same ish ending - had me sobbing - litterally. A throroughly enjoyable time - and the bonus I found was that as a "lone" audience member - I met some very nice peeps from the US who were sat next to me and really interested for me to explain the changes.

I'm fine thanks. Really looking forward to having a couple of weeks off soon. Would you believe they asked me if my holiday was flexible today (I've just finished laughing at that).

One good thing is the market in my field seems to be picking up - I am getting calls daily from agencies, so I may have a bit of choice when this contract finishes in July (although if there is nothing about, I will be able to stay put for another 6 months).

Time to sort out something to eat.

Aw bless you JG, hope the cough goes soon - it's really annoying, isn't it? Have a restful weekend.

Sezza, I heard the Jedward song yesterday morning and thought it sounded rather Morrocan. Absolute rubbish, but very catchy and, like you, I think it'll be popular.

I would just love to colour my hair bright red - saw lots of women of all ages in France a few years ago with red hair and I was so jealous. Don't think I've got the nerve though, and the son-in-law would probably die laughing.

Just watching the John Sullivan tribute - I'd forgotten how much wonderful stuff he wrote

Citizen Smith and Just Good Friends! Wonderful

And the chandelier scene from Fools and Horses is my favourite!

    Good morning all,

The weather here today can't seem to make it's mind up ,a bit cloudy with the sun suddenly disappearing behind them.

Have got two grandbobs here for the w/end they came last night and my house already is unrecognizable. and now that they are older and both getting indipendant of each other as they want to do two different things now so looks like I'm going to have to split myself in half today .might just get a tad messy don't you think LOL.

Liked all the talk of the hair fixing last night ,Annie I too would love to have red ,well auburn hair ,which years ago I did but the years have passed and alas maybe to late now .I keep asking my hairdresser to put red flashes through it but al she does is look at me and sigh !!! I wonder why.

Well off to prepare lunch fo these hungry boys and then the fun will begin in to what we are going to do next. Anyone got a tin helmet.

    Take care ....Bids.xxx.

Hello mtd, CSN, Bids & Any Lurkers.

This morning my carer washed my hair, made breakfast and helped with odds and ends. Bingo did some housework for me and has now gone to work, I'm so grateful for the help I'm now receiving. I had a visit from the Community Matron yesterday who was extremely helpful (arranged by my GP who is very good). I know have numbers to call for when I feel something coming on but not bad enough for hospital in order to prevent things from getting this serious in future.

If it wasn't for being so ill I could get used to this being cared for life, I think I may have been born into the aristocracy in a previous life LOL!

I'm rambling here as I have some time to spare, please feel free to scroll down if neccessary.

I've been reading my care journal which has been left here, apparently as well as chocolate I'm allergic to KODKA, I've no idea what this is, maybe some medication I had in hospital.

Tonight I'm going to watch Britain's Got Talent and Eurovision.

Now going to do my nails which are now so long that they'll soon start breaking, I did break one when I banged it on the headboard in hospital. Ouch!

    Pasta for tea!

    Afternoon each

Been lovely here in Fife today. Washing out and dried, grass cut, shopping done. I've still got quite a list of things to do but they can wait till tomorrow.

Maddy, my Dad used to say I'd been born into the wrong family - I was obviously meant for the aristocracy!!

Bids, enjoy the grandchildren. Mine were all off today to some park or other near St. Andrews. I was invited but, much as I love them, think I've seen enough of them this week. Youngest son is coming over tomorrow to take the dreaded photograph - son-in-law is not invited!!

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

I'm baaaack. Hair a different colour red, not that you'd notice the difference really, but nice and straight and trimmed. 2 new pairs of jeans for holibobs and HC easter eggs (70% off) bought - the man in the shop said 'are these for presents or are you keeping one?' to which I responded 'I'm keeping both.....'

Yes, half a Bids would be a bit messy, try to keep yourself in one piece...

MTD - you did it AGAIN!!

    How red? Really red?

I'm so jealous that you got HC easter eggs.

  • Comment number 84.

Oh yes very red, it was nearly pillar box red but now I've had it toned down a bit.

The OH has just noticed them in the fridge and I've had the 'HOW MUCH???' conversation. Still he doesn't have to eat them does he (as if he'll get the chance.lol)

    'Lo everybody

How you're all fine and dandy!

I may just have cured the drought problem in the south-east of the country - Mr Sezza has just decided we need the garden furniture I've been after for weeks!

As soon as we get it set up, I'm sure the heavens will open!

Bids, have fun with your little people

    Mtd, What really, really red?!

Annie and CSN, hope you're having good days

MM, sounds like you are having all the care you need and good that you have access to help for the future if you need it.

Not sure what we'll be watching tonight. We may slip into Eurovision but I bought The King's Speech today so we'll watch that sometime!

For some reason I couldn't post last night...

Glad you had a good day Annie, it's done nothing but rain here since I finished at work, can't get in the garden at all!!

Sezza, hope you haven't jinxed us all!!

MM, glad you have the care and support you need!

Well Finlay went for his haircut this morning, and I'm sorry to say I dropped him off, and went back to bed until I had to pick him up at 11.30!!

After an afternoon of football, I'm just waiting for my dinner to cook, and then watch BGT and Eurovision, some channel hopping going on here tonight...

    Evening All,

I have something to say about Eurovision: never mind Water Boarding terrorists.
Send then to watch Eurovision, live!

I'm not being a grouch (much) as I know that it is loved by many, but I have two DVDs and enough Peroni to see me safely to the other side.
    Enjoy, ESC fans.
