Annan weather the storm

Well that's the celebrations all over and the reality of reaching my 30th birthday is definitely sinking in for me.

I've taken in Newcastle, Amsterdam and Edinburgh as well as a wee house party in Dumfries in what was probably one of the best weeks of my life.

It's back to business now though as I get my head down and fight to get my place back in the Annan first team, or should I say squad.

It was my first day back at the club on Saturday after over a week off and with no first team match, I had the chance to look at the reserves.

I left with the score at 2-0 after young Phil Storrie had scored both goals - what a player he looks. I believe he is only 16, yet he went on to score another two and the game ended 6-0.

The manager was sitting watching from the stand and he must have been impressed - I don't think it will be too long before we see this lad in the first team scoring goals.

It wasn't only young Phil that put on a good show, Alan Inglis was bombing up and down that left wing at times and even managed to hit the target with a couple of left foot rockets - very unlike him.

It was good to see the boys on Saturday and the place is certainly a lot chirpier after the last couple of results.

It's just a shame that our Scottish Cup exit and bad weather has stopped us in our tracks.

The weather caused a few postponements at the weekend including Forfar's game against Stranraer, meaning we have no fixture again this coming Saturday.

The manager is trying desperately to organise a friendly game for us but looking at the weather outside, the only thing I can see this weekend is Annan Running Club, or maybe that should be Annan Ice-Skating Club.

Training was really good on Tuesday though. The pitch wasn't the best due to the freezing temperatures and we were worried that it would be a bit of a waste of time. How wrong I was.

We did our running as normal with a bit of simple ball work in between and then played one of the best training games we've had in a long time.

As I said before, the place is a lot happier at the moment and it shows in training when things are going your way.

The boys put the work in but we also had a right good laugh with each other as well.

The only thing that spoiled it was the referee - step up Piedro Baldotto.

Now, referees have been taking a lot of stick for their decisions this season and I see that George Peat had his say in the press on Tuesday.

All I will say is that Mike McCurry and Iain Brines are not a patch on this guy. He just does whatever the manager says.

I had just scored and the 'referee' shouted for time-up, only for Harry to say that the next goal was the winner (he was on the losing side).

Good football prevailed however when Jamie Dunbar knocked in the winner for us after about 40 minutes of added on time.

It's maybe a good sign that things are looking slightly brighter for us, as we also have our Christmas night out on Saturday.

There are over 20 of us going to Glasgow with 15 of us staying in a hotel that I've organised. Never again. It's a nightmare trying to get money from some of these boys, no names though (Lee Hoolickin).

Unfortunately a few of the boys have had to pull out for various reasons. Believe it or not Kevin Neilson is still trying to get out of it with only three or four days to go, and he wants his money back.

See you next week for the Christmas night out stories.

I am watching your team closely, ok it might be from Greece but I think Annan can be a wee success story.
As for Peat, Boyd, Novo, Burk and Murray.
I wish they would do the same as you and put a blog on this site, instead of trying to make themselves important with EXCLUSIVES.
They do not mount to anything but personal pleasure for those involved.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

Welcome back Jardie - sounds like you had a good time and I hope you kept an eye on Uncle Dougie and he hasn't come back with another 3 wives - Big Chief Dougie 3W - legend in Edinburgh.

Weather? You must be delighted you lay down to us at Galabank - a cunning Henry plan?

Up on Friday last week, game off at 11. Not looking great for this Sat so may be Mon evening - you would have loved that I am sure.

Hope to hear you are back in the team soon.

    Cheers

Is that Jamie Dunbar from Hamilton who scored for you? Used to play football with him as a kid!
