Preparing to face the Old Firm

I was really looking forward to sitting down and watching the Champions League on Tuesday night but what game would I be watching?

Inter Milan v Manchester United, Lyon v Barcelona and Arsenal v Roma were all mouth-watering fixtures.

Skipper left frustrated by injury

When players are desperate to play football and get back in the side, sometimes they do silly things - which is exactly what I did last week.

It has been well documented here that I haven't been playing much football recently.

A couple of run-outs in friendlies and one reserve game since November isn't exactly how I hoped my would go.

During that reserve game I picked up a slight injury, but didn't think anything of it.

At training last Thursday, after resting for almost two weeks, I gave it another shot.

Lapping up the Loch Lomond luxury

I must admit that I have never written my column in such amazing surroundings. My partner, Laura, turned 30 on Tuesday and we have taken the celebrations up to Loch Lomond for a two-night stay at .

Laura was getting a wee bit excited when I told her that the Scotland squad usually stay here during their get-togethers. I could have sworn she actually said that she was looking forward to meeting some real footballers!

Unfortunately, we have missed out this time as they are staying in St Andrews, but at least I'm confident enough now that Laura will remain a Third Division Wag for a little longer.

Looking through the transfer window

Well, that's the transfer window slammed shut, so clubs need to make do with what they've got.

I've heard a lot of managers say they don't like the January window but for football fans it brings one of the most exciting days of the year. The last 24 hours of the transfer window for me is like the Final is to my partner, Laura.

I was lucky enough to have the day off on Monday so I was glued to the television all morning and afternoon.
