Annan's season ends with a whimper

That's the season finally at an end and it went with a bit of a whimper for us down at Galabank.

finished off what was a disappointing season if we're honest, and saw us finish in a lowly eighth position.

As much as you tell yourself the opposite, it is always that little bit harder to get yourself up for a game when there is nothing left for the team to play for.

I think you could see that from on Tuesday night when Rangers weren't really at the races in the first half but turned in a much better performance in the second period.

We looked as if we were going through the motions a little during those first 45 minutes and were waiting for a team mate to produce something for us. In the second half we worked a lot harder and enjoyed a lot more possession but we really struggled to create chances and break Berwick down.

I think the manager will definitely be looking at our creative side, or lack of it, when he assesses the squad and the necessary changes that have to be made for next season.

After the final game on Saturday I immediately thought of two very important dates for my diary - one that I simply can't wait for and the other I'm absolutely dreading.

I'm sure you're all aware that a footballer never looks forward to returning to his club for pre-season training. Well, that date is set for Thursday 17 June.

It's actually a very good break we're getting this season, just short of seven weeks, but that might make it even worse; it will be like the summer holidays when you were at school.

That aside, I'm pretty confident I'll be in good shape for when pre-season does come around once more. That's because I'm off to Ibiza on Saturday 22 May for my mate Gary McMenamin's stag do.

I need to look half decent in my trunks so the only thing I can do is continue to train from now until we fly out. We are all getting pretty nervous about getting there due to this continued ash cloud coming from .

As long as we at least get to Ibiza we won't be worried, although I'm not sure the very-soon-to-be Mrs McMenamin would agree - apparently, Laura has all the buses and boats sorted for Gary should anything like that happen!

Actually I'd better make that three dates for the diary as we have the wedding the following Saturday on our return from Ibiza.

Whatever happens, I'm glad I can enjoy the break after getting my contract sorted out to stay at Annan for another year.

I was delighted to sign after the final game on Saturday and it was a further boost after I received the away supporters' player of the year award.

I knew I was in the running as we went in to the last few games of the season but I was still surprised and absolutely delighted to be handed the award after the Berwick game.

There's nothing better than being appreciated by your own supporters and all I can say is thank you to every one of them for their support for the team this year and let's hope that we can kick on and give you a much better season next time around.

Seven of the lads, well six of us plus Kate (Kevin Neilson's girlfriend), were straight up to Broadwood on Saturday for Scott Anson's 21st. We had a great night and an even better morning when Mrs Anson invited us round for sausage and bacon rolls.

Scotty's mum and step dad were brilliant to us and we're already looking forward to the big man's 22nd next year!
