Cup replay against Preston Athletic will be tough

First of all, I'd just like to apologise for the lack of my blog last week - hopefully there were a few of you who actually missed it!

The name of Annan Athletic will be pulled out of the hat for the third-round draw of the Scottish Cup on Thursday afternoon.

Everyone at the club is delighted to still be in the competition but . Don't get me wrong, we were never in any danger of losing the match.

We controlled the game in terms of possession but we were very disappointed in ourselves in terms of creating chances, especially in the second half.

Feeling sore after 'friendly' with an edge

We had a free week in terms of a competitive fixture last weekend but our closed-door match at Stenhousemuir certainly made up for that.

The club had tried to bring forward one of our festive fixtures but had no joy so we made the journey up to Ochilview and I've never known a "friendly" to leave me so sore and exhausted.

That said, it was an enjoyable match to play in and the 3-1 win made it all the more pleasing.

Both teams had a few first-team regulars missing and that perhaps played a part in adding a bit of an edge to the game.

We certainly had players in our side that were looking to put in a good performance and impress the watching manager. Harry might not like me saying this but you normally feel more relaxed before and during a friendly match.

Players might try things they wouldn't normally and you expect a little more time on the ball to lift your head and make your pass.

Saturday wasn't like that. I can't speak for everyone but I still had the nerves before the game and knew it was important.

Pitch change blow to our widening ambitions

It's been a bit of an up and down last seven days at this week. We had a away to at the weekend, but the club received some bad news regarding a failed grant appeal from the .

The club had to get the pitch widened at Galabank. As it stands, the pitch falls below the required width and it was part of the requirements when we were accepted into the that this had to be rectified within a period of time.

It's a disappointment for the club as there will now be possible sanctions as I can only now assume the work won't be completed in the specified time.
