Three concerts catch the eye this coming week. On Tuesday 13 January in Turner Sims Hall Southampton (023 8059 5151/www.turnersims.co.uk) the viol consort Fretwork with soprano Clare Wilkinson celebrate Purcell's 350th performing the Fantazias, the Evening Hymn and Dido's Lament. They then take the same programme and soprano to the USA for a three-date tour in Los Angeles, Houston and San Antonio.

On Friday 16th January in the David Josefowitz Recital Hall at the Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone Road, London (020 7873 7300/www.ram.ac.uk), The Rare Theatricall present the first of a series of concerts marking the anniversary. Their programme includes music by Purcell, Blow and Locke.

On Sunday 18th January at the Barbican London (0845 120 7500), Marc Minkowski conducts Les Musiciens du Louvre in Purcell's 1692 Ode for St Cecilia's Day, Hail Bright Cecilia, with high tenor Anders J Dahlin singing the fourth movement 'Tis Nature's Voice and soprano Lucy Crowe the sixth, Thou tun'st the World.
