Rhetoric and reshuffles
I'm off today, but no fear, Anita Anand will be in the hot seat to guide you through today's reshuffle antics. Here's her take on what's coming on today's Daily Politics.
"We've heard the rhetoric, now it's time to see the substance. Calls to see all the parties lay their post conference cards on the table are louder than ever.
Gordon Brown gets the chance to shuffle his deck today, but who does he trust to take us through these difficult economic times? Big trouble calls for big beasts, but will he dare to pull those who might challenge his right to reign closer to the most powerful positions?
And with a tough and turbulent winter ahead, the other party leaders must have similar thoughts in their heads... Just who will the public trust to lead them through the current downturn?
We're a helpful lot at the Daily Politics, so to give the leaders a little food for thought we've done a poll to find out whom you deem to be the safest hands.
Kevin Maguire and Danny Finkelstein will be joining me to sift through the results and to look back at the Cameron conference in Birmingham. Has the Tory leader done enough to convince people that he is a man with enough gravitas (if not experience) to deal with the serious problems which face us?
- head of the met police. The last time a serving commissioner walked out on the top job was way back in 1918.
The new broom at City hall - Boris Johnson - clearly wanted to sweep in with the changes. But should the issue of law and order really be a political one? Or has the partisan response to Blair's leaving left you with a feeling that this is all about party political point scoring.
We'll hear from the politicians and we'll hear from the police.
All that on the Daily Politics from noon.
Anita"
