A hundred years from now?
I wonder what the next century holds for the human race. In 100 years from now will everybody be living in a utopia? Or looking at the present, will it be a case of fortress earth with all borders closed?
At the moment the world is spiralling out of control in the areas of attitude to human values.
My first pint of beer in a pub was at the age of 15 years old. That was 60 years ago and was a catastrophe. My next was with my father at 17 years old, still a year under age, but in the right company. I was proud, as was my dad, meeting all his mates and that鈥檚 how it stayed until I got married eight years later.
Today young lads start with their mates and that is the way it stays. If they only realised what they miss because once those years have gone you can鈥檛 get them back and as the saying goes parents are there forever but mates are temporary.
However attitudes can change for better or worse but if the present trend continues the world 100 years from now will be a very cold place.
If it was possible everything needs bringing to a halt, stop the world and have a re-appraisal of all aspects of life.
In the 1950鈥檚 a group of so called experts made predictions as to what the world would be like by 2000. They forecast we would be living in the utopia I mentioned earlier, they could not have been more wrong.
The areas that need to change in the next 100 years, education, modes of transport, global integration of people.
I read recently that teachers and pupils are calling for a return to the old system of the three R鈥檚. Reading riting and rithmatic (bad spelling intentional) and in my view the quicker the better.
I should imagine well before the 2050鈥檚 all transport will be by electrical means as the global warming issue must be addressed.
As regards immigration all means of entry to this country should be closed for the next five years. In that time the present mess should be sorted out and then an organised system of entry re-started.
Technology could do with slowing down as most of it is going over people鈥檚 heads. You will soon need a university degree to use a mobile phone.
My personal view overall is that the politically correct brigade must be restrained sooner or later and like the three R鈥檚 old methods of punishment re-instated. I also think that this world鈥檚 population would be better with a third less than it is now.
However like the experts from the 1950鈥檚. I don鈥檛 think anyone can predict what the world will be like in 100 years. The biggest improvement must be in people鈥檚 outlooks and attitudes to each other.
The vast majority of people living today will not be around in 100 years but hopefully those that are will be living in utopia. However looking around today there is a huge task ahead.
Ever increasing greed would have to be abandoned, and respect and tolerance made(by choice) a priority before any semblance of utopia could be achieved.
The wheels of ignorance and evil are turning fast. And the whole world is embroiled in wars and "rumours of wars".
Within our own environment, behaviour and attitudes have descended to a moral low. Unless people wake up to the fact that kindness, grace, selflessness, and moral values are the only way to create a decent society, then one can forget utopia. How very sad.
Ecological disaster is the most likely prediction.

Hi John and Others,
surely education has got to be part of the solution?
If it is, then the question is: what kind of education?
I don't see much point in looking back; we've gotta investigate new types of education. Now there's a topic!
