Last week I went down to the Eden project to film Gardener of the Decade with Rachel. It was the past gardeners of the year battling it out with each other for top spot and it's to be aired on Friday 12th Dec at 8pm. Should be a really good programme, but of course I can't give anything away!

I like this time of year at the allotment. Things slow down to my pace and I don't have to run around like a nutter trying to do everything at once. I can go around preparing areas, harvesting, planning next year and also get on top of those parts that have so far eluded me this year. Behind the shed, the paths, around the edge of the plot, near the compost heap. I'm looking to clean through thoroughly to make more sense of the plot as a whole, moving the comfrey, rotating crops etc.

Well at the weekend I went up to the allotment to assess the damage. At first my heart sank as the whole plot looked awful. There were plenty of weeds and my peas and beans had completely dried out and died off which I was surprised about as I had been told it did nothing but rain while I was away. I also had tomato blight (like the rest of the world it seems!). Poor Keith had put so much into his tomatoes this year and very few survived - he was pretty distraught.
