Life is sweet
Last week was such a beautiful week for gardening. The weather was just perfect - sunny, dry and an ideal temperature for the physical side of digging and planting.
Up at the allotment, I put in some onions, garlic and shallots and also potted some up so they can go in where the potatoes and sweet potatoes are at the moment. I was supposed to lift some sweet potatoes last week as we were planning on filming it and then going up to Hyde Hall to see how they're getting on, but this has been postponed by a week or two, so I still have nothing to report back about them, and I promise I haven't even had a sneaky dig to see how they're getting on.
As things have slowed down a bit I've been getting on with jobs like cleaning out the weeds around the compost heap, digging up and moving my comfrey to a better position for next year and sowing some green manure. I also went up to Berryfields last week. One day I was filming Gardeners' World top tips - a new daytime series of 10 programmes made up of some archive footage from Gardeners' World. Each programme has a theme running through it so whoever is presenting (Carol, Rachel or myself) has an ongoing project throughout the programme too. Hard work but good fun and again the weather was glorious. I know how lucky I am as there are few places in the world I'd rather be working than at Berryfields on a day like that!
