And how many Cornish tax payers who live in Cornwall use this service?

Or is this the poorer people in our society subsidising the rich people again?

With Cornwall being the most west of England's counties, we need an airport to serve us.

Surely this should be funded by central government, and not by a 鈥淐ouncil subsidy鈥� I was always under the impression that the council tax we pay was to provide services for the community, emptying bins and other essential things, not investing in industry.

As we have experienced in the passed councils can drop clangers just by putting our council tax in the bank for save keeping.

I have to agree with Dave the raves second sentence, he must have been getting us confused with Devon in his first.
It is the Councils task to provide the infrastructure for local business to thrive, amongst a lot of other things, and a fast link to the rest of the world is, at the moment, best provided by an airport. (Independently run and financed would be best, but until that is possible, it seems that the council are left with the responsibility.) The argument for funding from central government, in today's economic environment is a non starter. History shows us that central government tends to keep things "central" at the best of times, the need for Objective One funding shows us that, so there is no hope now.
In the future, perhaps the Internet will negate the need for so much business travel, just like they told us it would, but until then, it looks like it's 'planes or bust.
