When a campaign is not a campaign

Graham Smith | 14:29 UK time, Monday, 21 March 2011

Here is Cornwall Council's answer to my question about last week's Census Tweet:

"We are not staging a campaign for people to say they are Cornish. We are supporting the work of the census office to raise public awareness about the census and the importance of people taking part in the process. As part of that process, we have been raising awareness of the opportunity for people to identify themselves as Cornish if they wish to do so."

And a reminder of what Friday's Council Tweet actually said:

"Our campaign to get people who call themselves Cornish to say so on the Census has made it onto wikipedia https://bit.ly/h9qKX3 "

Talking of campaigns, Mr Smith, how is your expos茅 of the BOGUS Alternative Vote versus First Past The Post Voting Systems REFERENDUM currently being corruptly and dishonestly proposed by the UK Liberal Democrat Conservative Coalition Government coming along? Do you remember it, or have you just dropped another ball? :

    'To sum up:

    INADEQUATE CERO POWERS
    +
    NON-DEMOCRATIC ELECTORAL LAW
    =
    BOGUS ELECTORAL ROLLS
    BOGUS REFERENDUM.
    BOGUS CONSTITUENCIES.
    BOGUS ELECTIONS
    BANANA REPUBLIC UK. '

And how much has this little 鈥渟upporting the work of the census office鈥 cost? All paid for by the tax payers, wouldn鈥檛 this time be better spent doing what they are paid to do? Or is it that the council think the Cornish cannot work it out for themselves, so they need preferential treatment? It would be very interesting to know whose brain child this was, someone must have given the go-ahead.
