Devonwall - a brief history

Graham Smith | 15:21 UK time, Tuesday, 13 September 2011

Remember when Nick Clegg said "there will be no rigid mathematical formula"? And then Democratic Audit simply crunched the numbers on the non-existent mathematical formula and told us exactly what would happen. The proposed boundary changes appear to cause particular difficulties for Lib Dem MPs Dan Rogerson and Stephen Gilbert. If you want to know how they voted on the third and final reading of the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill, you'll find the

Another Nats dilema. They love the Libs when they are putting up bound to fail proposals like Dan Rodgerson did on the assembly, but hate the Libs who gave them the unitary authority they didn't want. They love the likes of Andrew George when he is spouting nationalist platitudes, but vote against him when there is a MK candidate. More evidence of the schizophrenic nature of Cornish Nationalism.

Dave the Rave...What is your point?

Cornish Nationalists are irrelevant when it comes to a discussion of national politics...haven't you learned that yet?

The point is that those that have voted for this 'situation', which include so called Cornish MP's called Gilbert, Rodgerson, Eustice, Murray and Newton deserve everything they sow.

Labour were the only party to fight this all the way to the final stages of the Bill. There are no Cornish Nationalists in parliament who can stand up in Parliament to debate this.

I agree the nationalists are of no influence 28days. But they are spreading the lie about Cornwall's border being changed. again, and should be thwarted in this. Lies do not do Cornwall any good.

  • Comment number 4.

I have to thank young Dave, for constantly raising awareness of the Nationalist cause.
I also have to agree that lies do Cornwall no good. We just disagree on what constitutes a lie.

To actually get back to the topic, I would just like to point out that "today" they try to diminish the ancient border of Cornwall. Who's border are they going to attempt to diminish, and eventually remove, "tomorrow". England and France merged into one large European constituency anyone? After all, why should a border that has only been in existence for a few hundred years be worth making a fuss over?
We could have Paris as the capital of the new "West Europe" region.

I think you'll find it was Graham Smith who raised the issue, not me, Trembath.

They are "diminishing" the border now are they? On a rampant crusade to diminish invisible arbitrary lines, the cads!! Must be a plot against the Cornish!!

  • Comment number 6.

The "border" between France and England?

Not set by a King, but by God, By God!

  • Comment number 7.

Dave old chap, I think you will find that if you actually read the OP by Mr. Smith, you will notice that there is not one mention of Cornish Nationalists, schizophrenic or otherwise.
Anyway, as I said, thanks for the continual publicity!

Now now Slimslad, how can it possibly be a border set by god when it could, legitimately, be argued that it has only been a mere 210 odd years since the English Royal Family have accepted it as a border at all. A mere 210 years since they have not tried to claim sovereignty over that small tract of western Europe known as, France.

What the nats are good at is their parasitic hangings on, something most of us have "learned", with the exception of MK , who have not yet learnt how to distance themselves, from such as those who wish to reinvent the wheel.

    Now, now, P_Trembath!

    "English Royal Family"?

Couldn't you,( "legitimately"), call them the British Royal Family?

  • Comment number 10.

I think where Cornish "nationalists" fall down?

Is that they are of the impression that those who dare to question their beliefs are members of minority, right-wing organisations, who wave ancient flags and believe their antecedents were "pure" Britons..

As oppossed to to their ancient flags and even more ancient antecedents.

As evidenced by the Venerable Bede.

I used the term "English Royal Family" because in the context of that post, we were discussing the English border. However, up until 1811, by your argument, they could legitimately be called the French Royal Family as well.

  • Comment number 12.

    "By your argument", P_Trembath?

    Hardly an argument...

In your "World", (C24), "arguments" are swiftly removed.
Lest the reputation of "unity" in Cornish nationalism be tarnished.

  • Comment number 13.

Not to say that short-lived subjects were not enjoyed, digested and noted.
"Anniversaries", for example, was an excellent example.

  • Comment number 14.

Dave the rave, fixated on Nationalists.

    Slimslad, fixated on C24.

    Oh well.

    But, back to the topic.

Apparently it's going to be Bude way that they wish to impose this disgraceful act of imperialistic aggression.
    We shall see.

  • Comment number 15.

P Trembath fixated on "imperial aggression" by someone or other? Anyone got any idea who?

Bude and Bideford will share an MP Whoooo Whoooo! Aggression! :-)

  • Comment number 16.

If there is "imperialistic aggression" involved then it stands to reason there is an imperial aggressor.

Just who that "aggressor" is can be left to the imagination of the neo-Celtic "aggressed". At last count, this came to about 500 "stalwarts", (that is being kind).

  • Comment number 17.

After reading the 2 posts above, I rest my case.
    Thank you "Gentlemen".

  • Comment number 18.

    Dave the rave
    Slimslad

You should know better than to feed a troll.

  • Comment number 19.

    I know,yc, i should resist.

But I couldn't in this case. But there was no hint of anti-Cornish "racism" in my posts.

Seems this "racism" is becoming a bit of a collector's item.

Alonso "Paddy" Quixote , a retired country gentleman nearing 60 years of age, who lives in an unnamed section of Praa Sands. He has become obsessed with books of Cornish Nationalist, and believes their every word to be true, despite the fact that many of the events in them are clearly impossible. Quixote eventually appears to other people to have lost his mind due to lack of sleep and food from dedicating all of his time to reading. It is here that their series of famous adventures begin, starting with Don Quixote's attack on windmills which he believes to be ferocious giants of "imperial aggression".
