Interesting and well written blog Jack - keep up the good work! Play amateur football but have been lucky enough to play at Toryglen on a number of occasions and it's certainly a first class facility and agree that it would be very beneficial if this kind of centre was replicated around the country. Also liked the comment on the reserve league being scrapped, can you tell me what the players not getting a game in the first team and younger players coming through from 19's do for match sharpness with a competitive edge? and how are you and the guys enjoying the new Saints training centre at Ralston and what benefits do you feel this will bring to the team?

What training facilities do St Mirren have? I wouldve thought that a team in the 2nd division would have facilities that last through bad winters

As my username implies i am a fan of SPL football ( Jambo man !) I am amazed that a country that is passionate about football would not have proper training facilities . Is this part of the reason Scotland has had a tough go qualifing for world cups ?

What i would love to know is, how does the quality of the Scottish Premier League compare to the 3rd tier of the English league? Is it much worse or only a little bit?

Do you think you will ever venture back into England?

I know of a club who would willingly take you on, maybe as a squad player at first. They have a huge 25,000 seater stadium too. I bet you would love it there.

Ha! Funny things opinions. I thought Mr Ross was, at best, average. Which was why i was amazed when he left Hartlepool United, the club who gave him a chance to play at a reasonable level.

Mind you, i cant talk. I usually do as my wife tells me also.

Great blog Jack. Needless to say there are some in scotland (and beyond) who don't participate in these types of discussion as they are only interested in one of two particular clubs. There are however a great number of clubs and players who do the Scottish game proud, and this is reflected in your posts. Keep up the good work and the best of luck for the match tonight.

You are wrong. Jack is not only a fabulous footballer, with great legs, he is also very brave. Not many people would make that arduous journey from central Scotland to that most southerly outpost that is Hartlepool and survive as long as Jack did.

Certainly makes my Pools all time great team.

Much of the spl seems to be in a bit of turmoil at the moment
managers going ,money tight and the weather putting pressure on fans and
players. I would be interested to know how players react to these off the pitch pressures, and how you stay focussed on the playing side.
I guess with your experience from juniors to spl you have seen a lot of it before.

I agreed with your point about Reserve football. Would entering Reserve teams into the Football League be an option ? Also, were St Mirren one of the teams against the Reserve league ?

My only comment would be, make sure you get to pick your own title for the next blog -- this one is completely misleading and unrepresentative. Shame on whatever sub-editor decided to 'sex up' an already interesting blog with such a title!

Being a Scot living in England I dont follow Scottish football much other than to check the Motherwell result. So I cant comment on your abilities nor your personality and committment, however the peronal attacks aimed at you on here are beyond the pail.
I thouhg you blog was interesting and well constructed. The comments should be about the content of the blog and not some axe grinding attacks. No wonder you left and dont want to go back.

I am travelling to Scotland soon for a holiday.

What route would you recommend to be the quickest journey from Hartlepool to Scotland, I know you must have made this journey a few times at record pace to get home?

I'm a St. Mirren fan, I don't remember the Hartlepool stuff that's been discussed at all. But some of what's been written here is shocking and is nothing more than personal abuse. Some people should probably move on.

Anyway, regardless of what happened there, Jack's probably the best right-back Saints have had throughout the previous decade, comes across as a genuine nice guy and a 100% committed professional.

By the way, Lilo Lil, Neale Cooper didn't drag him from obscurity, that would John Hughes. You can't seriously count Hartlepool as a lifeline. From some of the children that are posting here, I don't blame him for wanting to leave. I thought Saints fans were bad.

I'm not denying that Hartlepool is a step up from Clyde, but attendence figures would suggest that the lower half of the SPL (such as Falkirk or St. Mirren) is the same level as the lesser supported teams in your league. Playing in the SPL means more media exposure and a far, far greater chance of being spotted by a mid-table Premiership side or one of the bigger Scottish clubs.

Lots of football figures are debating summer football just now. As a player, what's your opinion? Are you happy with the football calander as it stands, or would you rather a winter break, or a switch to summer football altogether with the league, for example, starting in March?

As Scotland don't ever qualify for the World Cup it would seem like a logical progression for you lot to play your football in the summer.

I dont know what the deal with all the digs that you seem to be getting from hartlepool fans Jack but you were a good player for falkirk, roumers were you had a falling out with hughes but since he is gone and most of the Saints team are ex-Falkirk players it would be appreciated if you would all come back to the club and stop us from getting relegated this year.

We are not spammers. You are probably mixing us up with Darlo. We are Hartlepool United fans who want answers to questions put to Jack with regard to his time at our club. He seemed to leave under curious circumstances and didn't even say goodbye.
