Wales But No Dolphins

Jeff Zycinski | 21:11 UK time, Tuesday, 24 June 2008

Today in Glasgow I was playing host to my Sali Collins, my opposite number at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Wales. I wanted to make a good impression so, after a morning of intense meetings, I asked her to join me for lunch over at the City Inn hotel. I also invited some of my team from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland, including our Zones Supremo Lizzy Clark.

A very nice lunch, but the effect rather ruined as we left the hotel when a junior waiter chased me down the street and told me that my credit card has been mis-read by his little hand-held machine. I had to return to the hotel to sort it out.

As I caught up with the group heading back to Pacific Quay I heard Lizzy tell Sali about the that had recently been spotted in the Clyde. Suddenly Lizzy began to point at the river and shout:

"Look! There's the dolphin! And there's a swan going towards it for a closer look."

As we crossed the Bell's Bridge it became obvious that this dolphin was actually a bit of wood...and the swan was an emplty, plastic carrier bag.

I'm not sure Sali was impressed.
