New Coldplay Single - World Exclusive!!!

Brilliant Coldplay mayhem today when Chris and Johnny from the band turned up with the single 'Violet Hill'... I felt we learnt a lot from the interview...Ummm...like how passionately Chris feels about Jayz playing Glastonbury and how annoyed he is with the Glasto knockers... that the band will be playing a free gig in Barcelona as well as Brixton and Madison Square Gardens...and ummm...that's probably about it.

He refused to play in the record himself...refused to say what Violet Hill is about ...refused to answer pretty much any question. They talked about how Brian Eno taught them a lot about life, sex and music and had helped them to make the album they wanted. And they said that they wanted this to be the album that it's ok for people to like. At one time I used to dread interviewing the band because they are so contrary - by they, I guess I mean Chris. You ask questions and you get questions back...but honestly, these days they are the most fun to be around and this morning's chat was full of much laughter...

It must be incredibly scary hearing your song going out on the radio for the very first time - in fact Chris left the studio while it was playing. But the band should be confident - my instinct tells me this is the best thing they've ever done and this album is set to be a classic...

Grand Theft Auto IV is finally here!

Entry from Gaming Expert - Johnny Minkley

Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, Xbox 360) - Out Now, £39.99 (regular), £69.99 (special edition)

The most-anticipated game in history is here at last, and loads of you are already at home stalking through the streets of Liberty City having picked up the game at one of the hundreds of midnight openings that took place across the UK.

The release of GTAIV is nothing short of a cultural event - the buzz, hype and media interest are unprecedented. And for gamers, GTA is one of those rare titles that you know all of your friends will be playing as well, with everyone sharing stories about all the cool things they've seen and done.

The good news is, after years of waiting, GTAIV is everything fans could have hoped for and then some.

If I were to highlight the single greatest addition to the game it would be the mobile phone.
A masterstroke, this allows you to control your social and professional life while on the move. You can call friends, receive texts, make a date, even call a number that tells you the name of the song your listening to.

Bear in mind that this is an 18-rated game and not suitable for children. But for adults it is the most impressive, enjoyable gaming experience of this generation so far.

My Top GTA IV moments so far:

- The first time you're cruising around in a car when a song you love comes on the radio and you realise how much you've missed GTA.

- Taking your first cab ride around Liberty City, just staring out of the window at the sights and people-watching

- Climbing to the top of the game's version of the Empire State Building - and checking out the stunning views of the city.

Wii Fit (Nintendo Wii) - Out Now, £69.99

Pass the lycra - Wii Fit has beome a smash hit with families in Japan and finally stepped up in the UK last Friday. It's not a game in the traditional sense; rather a series of f.un activities designed to improve your physical well being

Exercises are split into four categories: Yoga, Muscle Workout, Aerobic and Balance Games. The brilliant, super-sensitive Balance Board (which comes bundled with the game) is used to track your centre of gravity, measure your weight and plot your BMI. Based on those results and your performance in selected tests, you're given a Fitness Age - it works in a similar way to your Brain Age in Brain Training on DS.

Does it improve your fitness? It definitely makes you a lot more aware of weaknesses in your body, and through cheeky coercion (you get your own virtual trainer) makes you feel guilty if you're not sticking to your regime. And I've ended up exhausted after long sessions on it.

It's not cheap at £70, but massively cheaper than having a real personal trainer. And far less embarrassing than going to a gym. Unless, like me, you don't have any curtains in your living room. It's also a great fun to do with friends, flatmates, partners and families. You can all compare notes, egg each other on, compete and just have a laugh together.

I Need A Hero

So - Tuesday was Heroes day (again) on Radio One - the Petrelli Brothers came in to chat to me and Moyles - which obviously required an early start...kinky boots and lashings of mascara. (girls , you know the score...?)

The boys are like peas in a pod - both completely obsessed with the art of fine dressing. They were in immaculate suits with tie pins...handkerchiefs...monogrammed shirts - both dewy skin and ridiculously fragrant - it all felt very Hollywood at radio 1 HQ yesterday. So - we had a genius idea to have a bit of fun with both of them and find out which of them was the superior superhero by setting them a series of challenges which included a seven song superhero shuffle and an extreme taste test - which involved eating scorpions..giant ants and colossal worms...all dried and long past their sell by date. Didn't quite work the way we thought when we issued the challenge and they promptly declared they couldn't possibly do it cause they were vegetarians...Doh!! Tried my best to extricate as many Heroes secrets as I possibly could - mainly learning that Nathan and jessica get it together again - but more in series three rather than two...Nathan and his daughter Clare's relationship deepens and that the beard you see Nathan sporting in episode One is all his own and took him three months to grow...as Ice Cube once said...twas a good day...

Five Sweaty Boys

Elliot Minor win the award for THE most equipment in the live lounge ever! It was a case of all hands on deck to get 'em in and get 'em out again. Really impressed with them though - you actually forget what a big deal it is for bands to come in and do the Live Lounge - Live radio AND performing songs they're not familiar with too - the whole thing can be incredibly nerve-wracking. I think everyone could feel the band's relief once they'd finished - and I have to say it was spectacularly hot and stinky by the time they left…

Good choice of cover today too - nice showcase for their choir boy harmonies! All pics and footage online. Enjoy!! Jo xx

Katie Price and Peter Andre on the show

080403_katieandpeter_300.jpg

Katie Price and Peter Andre were my guests on the show.

They turned up 20 minutes late and I was so close to not letting them on the show at all.

The paparazzi were stopping traffic outside Radio 1, but to be honest they were waiting for Mariah Carey!

Behind the scenes Katie was more in ‘Jordan’ mode and Peter was lovely – he couldn’t of been anymore apologetic for being late.

I know they’ve got 3 kids, but next time Mr and Mrs Andre should leave home a bit earlier!
