Coldplay as babies
Hey ho - morning after the Coldplay gig the night before. The evening was just gorgeous - such a great warm atmosphere - everyone singing along to all the old favourites...Fix You was an incredible moment with the crowd taking over the singing - was really moving. Probably my favourite bit though was when the band suddenly appeared on the balcony - the four of them like folk troubadours - clustered tightly around a microphone to do the simplest and sweetest rendition of Yellow which took me right back to when I first had the band on my show - kind of melted inside when Chris gave me a namecheck midway through. Some bands just get lost in showbiz and some always remember the people who were there for the journey. Was really happy to have seen my old partner from the Evening Session - Steve Lamacq introduce the band onstage. This was my absolute favourite moment because you could see the band taking stock of the night - grinning from ear to ear and all looking a little bit overcome. The new songs sounded just immense - by the time they do the dates in December and people have got to know the album the place will just explode when they do songs like Viva La Vida, Lost, Lovers in Japan - 42...they work so well Live those tracks. At the end of the night a thousand squillion confetti butterflies were released onto the heads of the audience - all lit up by UV lights - Magical...
Had a word with the band after and they were thoroughly pleased with the whole evening - massively relieved to stop talking about the music and start playing it - loving every second.
Thought you might like to see some cute photos from the early days of Coldplay on Radio One when the band were mere babies!!
